construction workers

That’ll be me this afternoon. I think I picked the wrong afternoon to spend out on jobsites!

It took me almost 2 hours to water the tree line last night after work, but I’m glad to have the sprayer/tank rig I’ve got because otherwise it would take me a lot longer.

Time to get moving, better get my flowers watered

Good Morning :)

Pea, love that your T made it home with you. Wear it in good health, my friend :)

Lynn, thank you for extending kindness to your mail lady! :)

Keep cool, Easyas. I hope all goes well on the job site visits.

Beautiful picture, PollyannaMom, so peaceful!

I have shared with some of you that several years ago one of the then handymen to this building came and patched up a lot of old nail holes in my room. Management at that time offered to paint the entire bedroom. As an FYI the apartment has not been painted once since Dad moved in over 25 years ago! The "catch" was the paint that would have been used was very fumy and cheap, not even a bright color. Just a dirty looking off whitish shade. Management did say should I choose my own color that would be fine BUT at the time Dad and I would move (which as you all know God-willing I pray we will one day be able to) WE would be responsible for the cost of painting it back to the standard apartment color! I could understand that IF painting had been maintained over the years and was fresh and out of the blue, it was truly our choice (not out of need) to ask to change the color. But since the whole apartment had never been painted (and would, of course need to be upon our moving) neither Dad or I thought it was quite fair to make us responsible for the cost of repainting an entire room. So we said no thanks.

I would love something LIGHT, airy, and fresh, simple. God-willing post pandemic, Dad and I will be able to get out safely and we will take new pictures including of the two of us to be put into a new bigger frame in my room and other parts of the apartment. I'd also at that time be able to see friends again, maybe get some new Scripture wall decor to put up along with a little bigger decorative cross, and in general get to rethink what I want on my bedroom walls! ETA: It would mean a lot to me to also be able to put up a picture of our Quacker family DL meet one day, too! ::MickeyMo::MinnieMo

Meantime, the first step is getting rid of the current paper! I Googled (and looked on Amazon along with Michaels) bulletin board paper yesterday. I believe this current paper came from either Michaels or Lakeshore Learning. There really were not many choices at all! I did come across something called "better than paper." It looks more like contact paper perhaps? I know some of you are teachers or in education and perhaps are familiar with this? Or do you think bulletin board paper would be the cheapest and best option? I'd, get new tape of course to hold it up unless whatever paper was self adhesive. I would guess it wouldn't matter whether it pulled the paint off the walls since they would need to be painted anyway one day! I'd really appreciate any suggestions :)

:grouphug:🐥 and Have a terrific Tuesday!

Good morning everyone. Hope you are all staying cool.

I spent the day with my mom and some friends from church celebrating mom's birthday. She loves Shady Maple in Lancaster so we went there for breakfast, a fabric outlet (I was bored here), Kitchen Kettle Village and the outlets for the Disney Store, got some ice cream at a farm there and then the grocery store there for mom's free whoopie pies. She gets the whoopie pies for my dad who loves them. It was way to hot and I think my mom's car needs an AC check up. I did not feel good at all when I got home. Even with the AC I was sweating a lot. I did have a good time though and we are planning another trip next month. I was in bed and sound asleep by 9 which is really unusual for me. I plan to do almost nothing today.

I did get an update on my niece. She is on bedrest in the hospital for the next 7 weeks hopefully. They started her on some antibiotics to prevent infection and I believe steroids to help the babies lungs mature so if she does deliver them early that helps. I do hope she gets close to the 7 weeks but I also know that is a long shot.

I went back and tried to catch up here but there were quite a few posts.

@Kirby - I hope your daughters lawyers get on her ex ASAP. She must be worried to death about it. My prayers she gets an address and a contempt case going against him soon.

@Pea-n-Me Love the food pics. When I went to Scotland a few years ago I was taking pictures of my food and my mom thought I was crazy. Her friends, that also turned out to be on our tour, loved the idea so much they made sure I could get good pics of their plates also.

Hope everyone has a good day.

@tazdev3225--saying prayers for your niece and her unborn baby. Let's hope she can get as close to the 7 weeks as possible.

I can't believe that the lawn dried out that fast. At 10 I went out and mowed the front and sides, and by the time I got to the back, that was so dry that I managed to mow the whole lawn in 1 1/2 hours. Thermometer out there says 84, weather channel says its 86. But I had some shady spots, so I planned my mowing to hit those every few minutes so I didn't overheat. I won't be able to do it tomorrow..and it's calling for rain Thursday and Friday. By Saturday, it would have been so high I would have had to either mow 2x on the lower setting, or raise the wheels and leave mulched grass all over the place. So it's done and over with. I am going to take a cool shower and relax till lunch time,,which I just realized is around the corner already,,lol

Stay cool everyone!

The food pictures are making me hungry!

It is brutally hot here. When I got up just before 8 this morning, our thermostat already read 82 degrees. My mom doesn't have AC in her bedroom, she says she's okay without it ("I'm old...old people get cold easily" ) but when the boys weren't here on Sunday night, she slept in Josh's room with the AC on. Last night, Josh slept in our room so Mom could have his room again, and we will probably do the same thing tonight.

We went to the library this morning to sign up for summer reading, and I almost passed out, the air was so heavy. But once we sat down with one of the librarians I was fine. They even have a summer reading card for adults, too, and I am happy for that. On the kid's card, there is a square for doing a town scavenger hunt like they did last year, and we're excited for that as well! I hope we can figure them ALL out this year, I think we missed by 2 or 3 last year.

At noon, the weatherman on our news said that it was 97 degrees in our town, but with the humidity it felt like 102. DH and Josh are outside enjoying one of Josh's kiddie pools (I really wish we had a "real" full-size one right now!). I just caught DH actually lying down in it, his head resting on one side and his feet sticking out the other.

Tomorrow we're going to a different movie theatre to see Muppet Treasure Island, and then we plan to have lunch at a pirate-themed restaurant next door. We haven't been there in many years, but it reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean and even kind of smells like it when you first walk in. We're still trying to get tickets for the Science Center on Thursday - they were supposed to go on sale yesterday. But when I got on in the morning, it said "after 2 p.m." I got on at 2:04 and it said "tickets for July will be on sale after 5 p.m." Okay, so then I got on at 5, and at this point it said "Tickets for July will be available on June 30th." Geez, do they want anyone to visit or not?

We've also decided not to have our tag sale this weekend. It's supposed to rain, and it's a holiday weekend anyway. We're putting it off a week. Fine with me, that gives us more time to set up. I had wanted DH here to help take the crib apart if anyone buys it, but I guess I'll figure it out myself.

Have not posted here in a while but all this talk of food inspired me to post the boiled crabs we had yesterday. We were walking our dog and ran into the neighbor who provides us lucky ducks with shrimp, oysters and crabs when in season. He goes out and catches something every week. We have an outside gas burner and huge seafood pot. He always gives lagniappe so we end up with 26 crabs when ordering 2 dozeN. My husband graciously was the cook even though he doesn’t eat them, so I shared the bounty withy my sister and her husband.

Good afternoon.

Have been talking to DD recently about changing our Verizon plan because all of a sudden we are going over our data limit every month. She looked into it today because she is on our plan still and her DH is on his parents' plan. They decided to become real adults and got their own plan. I just got a text from Verizon telling me that her number was deleted from our plan. Somehow that hurts like her getting married and moving out. :) I felt that way we DS left our plan too. So final. (There was actually an episode of The Middle about that.)

I am getting lazy and inertia is setting in. Will do a quote-fest to help me remember.

Toto was groomed
Last week DD took her dog to the groomer that they have used for several years. The dog was so anxious that the groomer couldn't finish. Got Paisley Benadryl from the vet and drugged her and tried again. DSIL had to stay the entire grooming time to help hold the dog.

I need to mow, but I just cannot do it in this heat
I went out and mowed
See how we won't believe you now.

Good opening, all!
Opening? Is that an autocorrect or something I just don't understand.:confused3

She loves Shady Maple in Lancaster so we went there for breakfast
We need to get there sometime. Is the buffet open again? Have never been and were only available to go on weekends which would be too crowded Saturday and closed Sunday.

I did get an update on my niece.
Could you give a first name or initial, if you are comfortable, because that makes it easier for me to pray.

They even have a summer reading card for adults,
They have a summer reading program for adults at our library but I am not doing it this year. This year you have to read from 8 different categories and I have no interest in reading sci-fi or fantasy for the chance at a prize.

boiled crabs
A travesty! Crabs must be steamed with lots of Old Bay.

The buffet is open again. It was our first time back in well over a year. I do prefer a weekday to saturday as that can get crowded. I love the breakfast buffet bit have been there for lunch and dinner. The food is so good. They had a glove and sanitizer station and we all put gloves on to get our food. I actually hope they keep that after this is all over. If you can get there go, and they offer a 10% discount for over 60 which I really like, saves me a little money.

Well I hadn't planned on doing it, until I saw the weather forecast for the next 3 days. If I had someone else to mow instead of me, I would let it wait, but knowing how much more work it makes for me the taller it gets,,I have to do it when I can do it,,lol! So believe me or not--LOL!

We strictly boil with large portion made in Louisiana Zatarains crab/shrimp/crawfish boil. Lots of onions, lemons, celery go in the pot. That old Bay has way too much salt for me. I did find a tin of low salt old Bay. It works good on steamed Louisiana shrimp but I admit we add a large dollop of Zatarains too. It’s in the Cajun blood.

Hooray for such fun plans, Apirateslifeforme! I love that all of you signed up for the library’s summer reading, maybe you can read a book together as a family. Prayers Josh has a blast at the movie and restaurant—and that of course, the rest of you have fun, too :) I don’t sleep with the AC on either but when it’s truly HOT turn it on a good half an hour before I get in bed and then often the room will need a brief cooling during the night.

Good to see you, Snappy! Hope your summer has been good so far :)

Hug Carol, I’m not a parent but even seeing some of the church kids I’ve become closer too over the years suddenly be all grown up can be emotional! I have no interest in Sci fi or fantasy books either. Fantasy Land on the other hand :D

That sounds great and a smart move, too, Taz Dev to go to a buffet during the week! I went a few times on a weekend to one and it was crazy!

Lynn, I sure hope you are cooling off and resting now. You truly do amaze me by all you do!

A travesty! Crabs must be steamed with lots of Old Bay.

I didn't want to say anything..... 8-)
Although now I'm wondering what we might have done "wrong" when we boiled the crawfish eldest brought back from LA a while back!
Our family actually converted to J.O. about 2 years ago, not - of course- that there is anything wrong with Old Bay. Oh who am I kidding...like I can tell the difference! Husband always adds kosher salt to our mix for the steamer so at the end of it all I couldn't tell one from the other:rotfl2:

Glad to be home, it's hot as hades BUT there is also a slight breeze so I am outside in on the porch enjoying the warmth and breeze and fresh air!

Hot and humid here. Summer in south Louisiana… afternoon showers guaranteed.

On the plus side the grass and landscaping looks lush and no watering required.

On the minus side, have to have the grass cut more frequently.

So what do y’all do to cool off.

I broke down a week ago and had a snowball. Sinfully good. Mostly I drink water but give me a snowball made with ice so fine it sticks together. Worth the splurge.

Glad you're home, Easyas!

That weather sounds awful, Snappy. Humidity is truly the worst! Stay well and cool, please.

I've been thinking of other possible inexpensive wall covering options. What do all of you think of a cheap solid color wall paper? I just saw on Amazon (I have birthday credit on there still) that there is a peel and stick wall paper option which would be great because it would eliminate the need for tape (which would be great, one less thing to peel off or get dusty/fade) to fasten the paper. Any recommendations? I also do realize especially for a huge wall space, peel and stick, might prove more trouble than it's worth due to only getting really one opportunity to get it on smoothly. Although it would not have to be applied in in one piece. Dad will help me measure later but two of the three spaces I would want to cover are very wide and long.

Thanks, friends. I hope all of you are having a good Tuesday and keeping cool as best you can, too!

Highs in the 80's this week with a chance of a pop up thunderstorm each day. We got about an inch of rain yesterday.

Hosted my book club last night, 10 of our 13 members were present. It's so nice to be able to visit with them. Our book for June a historical novel called The Saturday Evening Girls Club by Jane Healey. It was very easy to read and every one was left wishing there was a sequel. We chatted a lot too, catching up with each other.

Today I worked in the office some and then took a good friend out to lunch for her birthday.

Dinner tonight was sandwiches and chips.

Hi all, just a quick pop in to say “hi”. Hope everyone is staying cool as best they can. I am not a fan of heat or humidity.
I know many of you pray, so am asking for prayers for a family in our community who experienced the worst kind of loss recently. I don’t want to post details but all prayers for their comfort and healing would be appreciated. Thank you.
