Problem with room on recent trip...

I think it was a big misstake considering how upset you are at what happened. My comment was that you really should not trust the front desk to take care of these things. It could easily have been a lot worse (they could have packed your stuff for you, I have seen it done)

Hotels make misstakes and the people at Disney are not perfect.

I was in a Crowne Plaza a few weeks ago. After my first night I got a bill. I went to the front desk. They had checked me out in error and they would have packed me up if I had not checked back with them. At another hotel I had two reservations. When I went down to "recheck" in they were getting ready to throw me out because they were trying to charge an invalid credit card. (The first reservation was a Priceline bid and they wanted to charge night two to the Priceline card instead of the card I had left on file the night before. And this was a 4 star hotel in DC that had exceptional service otherwise!)

I would never trust the front desk on something like this no matter what my reservation form said since the MS people tell you that there is no gurantee you won't have to move even though things are linked. If you have two reservation numbers you always need to treat them as two reservations.

While the misstake may not be yours, you will have to deal with the consequences of any misstakes others make.

Please this is not intended to be rude at all so please don't take it this way but mistake only has one "s"

When people have made reservations, some nights cash, some points, if the ressies are linked, have people been told by MS that they definitely will NOT have to check out/in? We've done it a few times, and MS has always been very careful to let us know that, while linking our reservation hopefully will keep us from having to check out/in, they don't guarantee that won't happen. Fortunately, we've never had to move, and it seems no one else has either, but in my experience, MS has always gone out of their way to caution that it's not guaranteed.

If we were going to correct all the spelling/typos on this board it would be a big job indeed.

I see no reason to correct anyone unless you couldn't understand what they typed. If you were simply trying to be neighborly and help you could have pm'd the poster, and if they cared to they could have modified the post with the correct spelling. I don't see the point of chastising anyone in public.

My experience when I made a reservation through member services (with the discount) was we were given keys for the entire stay, we did not have to checkout/checkin..........
When I booked a cash night through CRO, I did have to checkout/checkin and get new keys.
This is probably why some people have said they did have to check in and others said they did. The rest of this post is just a guess about how it works.

We've been told the same thing as Simba's mom.
I have been told by CMs in the past that the 2 systems (DVC and CRO) are on 2 separate computer systems.
So, someone staying part DVC and part CRO on the same trip would not show up on the DVC computer for the CRO part of their stay. The only link to their 2 reservation might be a note in each reservation referencing to the other reservation.
For someone who is staying part DVC and part cash thru member services, there might be a more direct way to link since both reservations are in the same computer.

So, the best advice would be to ask for the reservations to be linked, mention it at check in and then go to the front desk to check status whenever you change from points to cash or back again.

I wasn't chastising. But if I compare it to what your doing to me right now, is that chastising? You could have pmed me as well. I was just bringing it up because it wasn't obviously a type o but thanks for making a bigger deal out of it than it was.

MS has always told me I won't have to move. So have the front desk attendants.

I made the typo and I am not upset by the correction.

Don't worry, I never take corrections of my spelling personally. I can't spell and I can't really type. NOT a good combination LOL!

I don't know what I did before spell check (and even then you can wind up with crazy stuff.)

Hi MicheleC! I can certainly see how this could have happened to me too on our trip in mid October!!! I never even looked at my key to see the ending date:eek: I did ask at check-in to go ahead and pay for the cash night and they told me the ressies were linked months ago, but I counted on the CM to tell me if that changed. So, it could definitely happen to others. I am glad it didn't totally ruin your trip:sunny:

Thanks for sharing!

Lew thanks for the laugh.

Is there a full moon? ;)

I think the best advice and lesson to learn from the OP's experience is that mistakes happen. CM's make mistakes. The best course of action is to be Proactive and then you won't have to be Reactive.

Check everything for yourself and rely on no one to get it correct. :)

I thought I remembered hearing about some sort of hotel regulation (law?) that hotels can't force a guest to check out of a room - I think it even came up as a topic during the hurricane season when people couldn't get home. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?
With that in mind, I am *really* confused about how DVC could just check new guests into a room without someone checking out - or are there different "rules" since it's a timeshare?
This just sounds really surprising to me - the idea of checking new guests into a room without a checkout on record.

WOW !:earseek: I am so sorry that you had such trouble with your ressies Michele, but happy you had a great time anyway!! I could just imagine how you guys must have felt , with people walking into your room like that!!
AND, this is really making ME get nervous since we have 4, (yes 4)ressies to deal with in Aug.!!
Points, cash (weekend), points, then moving to a 1 bedroom, from a studio!!! I looked at the ressies, and none of them say ,"continuing " or whatever its supposed to!!?? They all have different res. #s. I hope this doesn`t drive us.......  !
Thank you for making us aware of the potential problem.
