Would my daughter need to be present the entire call or just when they need tto talk to her? She’s 17, neurodivergent and high anxiety. Doesn’t like to talk about her issues with others and will make herself sick worrying about the call. Last time before the changes I just had to put her on at the end. Is that still the case?

You'll want her to be close enough to join the conversation if asked and its very likely they will want to ask her questions.
Its more than just the quick pic these days.

Thanks. What if she clams up and won’t answer or talk? That’s a very real possibility.

Then she doesn't talk to them and they make their decision.
Sometimes its better to say less and sometimes its better to say more.
Unfortunately you just never know what they will decide based on the interaction or lack there of.

Parents of a neurodivergent child

This is our 5th time seeking DAS and have been approved each time. (4 at US Parks and once at Disneyland Paris)

It was similar to our last experience seeking DAS Disney World/Disneyland, it was very different from when we visited Disneyland Paris. The first time we received DAS was when it was still in person at the parks, the other times have all been video chats before our trip. The biggest change this time from the last time is the advance booking of attractions otherwise it seemed to go exactly as before. All in All it took maybe 15 minutes from time we logged on to time we were done. The cast member was very nice and as parents who have had to advocate for our child at school it was an easy conversation. They asked my child a couple of questions like what is his favorite Disney snack and favorite Disney ride. I cannot speak to other disabilities and needs but for parents of a neurodivergent child this was an easy process compared to trying to get accommodations at our local school.

For Disneyland Paris we had to fill out a form, get it signed by our doctor and submit it to the parks. That was a much more involved process.

Just renewed. It was faster than the last time. Infact they just asked how she's doing and if there was anything else that they could recommend to help her. The CM was very sweet and knowledgable. She only asked to see her and take picture at the end. No questions. It lasted maybe 10 minutes.

My daughter (13 with a few conditions I won't put here, but none are autism or developmental disorders) and I called on Saturday and she was approved. I have been the DAS holder the last few trips, but was denied (see my post from a few weeks ago above) this time. She has had DAS before, as well, before the "new rules" and once after.

The interview was long - I would say 15 minutes - but the CM was awesome and very patient with her/us. My daughter wanted to do most of the talking, and she did very well advocating for herself. A world of difference from my interview.

No disrespect, but I do not understand how we keep seeing these stories of people who don't directly meet the criteria getting approved while people who were previously approved under the new rules get denied on renewal. Is it just me or does the system just not make any reasonable sense? What am I missing?

I'm fully convinced the approval process completely depends on the cast member who does the interview, especially since the criteria for who qualifies seems to be vague and subjective.

Get a cast member who reads directly from their questionnaire guide? You're probably getting denied because you didn't answer questions 2 and 5 correctly. Get a cast member who wants to have a conversation about you or your child's condition and how helpful DAS would be? You're probably getting approved.

I would never advise lying in the interview. I hope people who lie to get approved would get banned... but I will say that I get it.

I have a theory (probably wrong, but a theory nonetheless) on why so many who were approved since the changes are now being disapproved, but we've been asked not to post those types of things here, which I totally understand.

I also have a theory I’m deeply curious about, but I think we were asked not to speculate and I’m assuming that still holds true until we hear otherwise.
