Top of the World Lounge

Yes, could be. OTOH I’m not sure Disney wants to open it to general public like Trader Sam’s. I hope it doesn’t go the way of The Attic at BWV, available only for private events $$$. Sounds like it stays busy enough!

Definitely don’t see it going a Trader Sam’s way. Just wanted to point out that it used to be for all DVC owners and in order for DVD to make it exclusives which meant potentially less income for the hotel side, I believe DVD is paying something for that right!

And, they must be doing okay because they haven’t relaxed the lounge access back to more guests!!

For what it worth, we enjoy visiting Top of the World - Villains Lair. Correct that you do not have to pay to get in but also it's does not offer free snacks and drinks like the park DVC lounges. I'm ok with that as I'd like to have some adult drinks and hot food. Support paying for a bartender and staffing to offer these services.

They use to have some villains attire you could dress up in but not sure if that's still available.

Was at BLT a few weeks ago and checked in on the day of Wicked Wind Down party - lobby check in folks told me the TOTWL was unavailable that night to anyone without a reservation to Wicked Wind Down - called MS for a same day reservation but they said it was sold out 🤷‍♂️ . Staying at Contemporary this coming weekend, so will try again to finally see TOTWL!

I will be at BLT this weekend! I havent called MS yet about a reservation, I dont like commitment, but would suck to be sure to back to visit the lunge and be told no.

Question: I'm still a bit confused about how this works up there, even if the event is full will they still let you go out onto the observation deck?

They didn't let me do that (go to lounge to eat/drink) because I did not have a reservation for Wicked Wind Down - which is usually a Friday night event. I been trying to get a reservation for this coming Friday night for several weeks with no luck. Guess I will have to visit some other time this weekend.

Edit: However, they were vague about going up there just to watch fireworks on observation deck. I didn't push it, but now that I think about, I bet we could have done that. Might try to crash the Wicked Wind Down this weekend.... I mean visit the observation lounge.

Yes, the Wicked Wind Down has a separate viewing platform that is distinct from the viewing platform that is open to all. So the viewing platform should be open to all every night unless there is some other reason that the resort is restricted, like July 4th.

The top of the world lounge is open later than the fireworks most nights, so it should even be open for special fireworks events like MNSSHP.

It used to be you had to check in at the lobby floor to even gain access to the 16th floor (effectively restricting the viewing platform to only DVC-Y members), but now anyone can go up to the 16th floor so the viewing platform is open to all. While I haven't yet visited during the busiest seasons since this change, it does not appear to have affected the crowds on the viewing platform much. The lounge is still restricted to DVC-Y only (and by the book, only when staying on property using your membership - but as I've said in the past, they have never enforced that provision for me - they've never asked me where I'm staying - YMMV).

To confirm, as an unwashed resale DVC owner we can access the viewing platform without having to checkin somewhere?
