Pls inform me about Jehovah Witness

and here is our official website, I hope you visit it and feel free to search the archives for answers to your questions in our articles, it's best to get information from the source, isn't it?

For those looking for the truth about the Watchtower Organization, I would instead suggest a website such as http://www.jwinfoline.com/index.htm

Go there quickly -- the Watchtower Organization has a habit of using all legal means possible to shut down websites which tell the truth about the Watchtower organization.

I would also suggest http://www.freeminds.org/index.html

Of interest is this chart that shows that Jehovah's Witnesses will gladly accept some parts of human blood to save their lives, but not other parts. Strange, to say the least.

Thanks to everyone for the insight on this faith. I have to admit, I am quite ignorant when it comes to other religions, so the information has helped shed a little light for me :goodvibes
<sigh> I just wish that the JW's that knock on my door weren't so darn persistent - no means no, I have my own beliefs and will decide on my own if and when I want to change them

This thread was started in all sincerity to find out about Jehovah's Witnesses so as not to offend a co-worker.....how kind and considerate! As one of Jehovah's Witnesses let me say thank you, someone asked me a similar question not long ago for the same reason :) and we appreciate sincere queries and are always open to answer anything about us.......

I'd be happy to answer any questions......so feel free to pm me for answers to anything confusing about us, including any questions about things brought into this discussion by non-witnesses or former witnesses......

that's a good question for ex. ottawa-newbie many have asked, that is: Why do Jehovah's Witnesses call at my door so much? Why does it seem that they are so persistent? such sincere questions can be directed to me via pm.......:)

No, they don't celebrate anything. Only the anniversary of Christ's death in the spring.
So they don't celebrate birthdays but they celebrate a death? That's just plain weird.

Well my guess is they actually celebrate his resurrection, not his Crucifixion as most religions that celebrate/believe in him

Its a reinaction of the last supper. They do this because of the verse that says *do this in rememberence of me*..If I remember correctly it's called the memorial

so basically they take Communion on good Friday?

No. On the Thursday of the Passover -- and only those who are numbered among the 144,000 can take the memorial. I was invited to come watch the service one year -- but I was told that I couldn't take communion because I wasn't numbered among the 144,000.

I declined the invitation and worshipped with my congregation where all who desired to receive Holy Communion were welcomed to the altar.

The local Jehovah's Witnesses are rather persistent -- but I get visited by only one of them. He keeps asking to sit down for a bible study -- but I don't have the heart to tell him that his interpretation of the bible is based on the lies of the Watchtower Organization.

Yes, Christians do celebrate Christ's crucifixion on Good Friday because without the terrible events of Good Friday we cannot have the Easter celebrations.

While it may seem peculiar to celebrate our Saviour's death, rest assured that we are most definitely a resurrection people.

Well I can tell you that every Southern or independent Baptist Church I've attended does not celebrate the crucification. In fact I've heard plenty preachers say one should not even own a crucifix because it celebrates his death and not his resurrection.

Jehovah's Witnesses can completely explain what and why we believe, we are family loving, peace loving, law-abiding people who strive to be directed by God's Word, and we carefully search the scriptures and work hard to get accurate knowledge from the scriptures in their complete sense, I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses now for 35 years :)

Well I wish they would do it without annoying everyone by knocking on their doors!! Always know when they are in the neighborhood because the phone chain starts with neighbor after neighbor calling saying "don't open your doors-the (insert your own word here!) just parked on the corner and are coming around"
Really really ticked me off when I worked nights and was trying to sleep during the day and there they are, banging at my door waking me up....I don't care what religion anyone is just stay the heck away from my front door unless you want to be met by a crany person who is goin to be far from polite when she opens it and holy rollers are on the other side of it!!

Why,Jehovah's Witnesses go door to door

Why,Jehovah's Witnesses go door to door an ineffective recruitment tactic.

In a word "cognitive dissonance" or what Danny Haszard calls,'justification of the sour grapes'.

They get intrusive in your face on your doorstep.Homeowners slam the door in their face (me too i went door to door for 33 years)

Soooo,it MUST BE the true religion because Jesus said that his followers would be hated.

Except-Jehovah's Witnesses aren't persecuted for speaking about Jesus Christ, they are resented for their solicitation uninvited on your doorstep selling watchtowers and trying to convert you.Sorta like telemarketers then.

Door to door is an ineffective recruitment tactic, they should modernize and appeal to the information superhighway, problem there is the Watchtower has demonized the internet as the 'tool of satan'.

I mentioned before that only one particular Jehovah Witness comes to visit me -- just Jeff and his wife, or Jeff and another JW. I actually like Jeff. We've had some good discussions on my front porch -- I'm usually in my pyjamas when he comes by, so it is never a good time to talk. I have done my best to avoid pointing out the lies in the Watchtower's deliberate mistranslation of the Bible -- translations purposefully altered to support the ever changing theology of the Watchtower Organization.

So Jeff didn't come around for a while and I began to wonder about him -- actually worried about him. He had mentioned some health concerns during one doorstep visit and I feared the worst.

I was driving by the local Kingdom Hall one fine Saturday morning, wearing my clerical collar as I was driving to the Church office to do some work in preparation for a worship service. I saw the cars parked at the KH and people milling about and thought I would pull in and ask about Jeff.

Remember, I am wearing a clerical collar -- I am a pastor, I am dressed like a pastor. There is no mistaking the fact that I am a pastor, and certainly not a member of the Watchtower Organization.

I see a fellow who looks like he is organizing the door-to-door blitz. He is handing out small cards with addresses and information on them. Interesting that they keep records on who they visit. I ask about Jeff. This fellow looks at me -- looks rather concerned and points to a car.

I go and knock on the window of the car. I begin to think that this is wonderfully ironic. Jeff rolls down the window with a look of confusion on his face -- he doesn't know what to say when someone else comes knocking on his door.

We're moving tomorrow. I will actually miss the regular visits from Jeff -- but I'm sure more of Jehovah's Witnesses will quickly find me in our new home. They always do -- and on their first visit they always seem to catch me in the middle of putting on my clerical collar and looking all the world like a pastor. The look on their face is priceless and one has actually turned and run the other way.

I guess moving can be fun.

Fortunately, in our town, we can post a "No Solicitations" or "No Solicitors Allowed" message on our front door. People going door-to-door, including JWs (because they are selling Watchtower magazines), are required to register with the city and obtain a license. If they violate the "No solicitions" sign, we can call the police and they can be fined. This doesn't work, however, for political campaigners or religious groups not selling items. :(

Actually, they don't sell the magazines anymore. They offer them by way of voluntary donations only. So they technically aren't soliciting.

D'oh!

Just browsing through the posts because I was curious.

It sounds like a pretty joyless religion, no wonder they have to recruit, nobody's going to naturally flock to something so exclusionary and grim...

I know many Jehovah's Witnesses, many in my own family. They aren't joyless at all. They are very happy with their religion and talk about it proudly. So many think of them as a religion who have such strict guidelines and don't allow their congregations to do anything at all. It's very untrue, my relatives who are Witnesses are very close to everyone in their congregation. They see each other as loving people and call each other "family". I don't see anything wrong with that. And as I've said before in another thread-what's so wrong with sharing your religion with others. As long as you don't take it too far... it someone is not interested so be it. People on this thread don't mind sharing their opinions on religion, so why should Witnesses be any different. Just because you don't agree on what they stand for doesn't make it "false" or a "cult". Respect other peoples opinions and faith. That's the loving "Godly" way of thinking isn't it?

I was a JW for 33 years!

A heads up on the Jehovah's Witnesses.

The Watchtower Corporation (Jehovah's Witnesses) is a media publishing, real estate development, and convention sponsoring company and their literature all promotes the corporation and those goals.

I have Jehovah's Witnesses family in Naples Florida who practice the Watchtower JW enforced ritual shunning that i have not seen or heard from in 15 years.

Yes,you can 'check out anytime you want but you can never leave' they can and will hold your family hostage

To even vocally question the teachings of the Jehovah's Witness organization will result in complete cutting off, with family and friends usually being forbidden to talk to them.

The Watchtower is a truly ORWELLIAN world, in a time when Orwellian societies are nearly obsolete. There are tens of thousands of pages up from disgruntled ex-Jehovah's Witnesses all over the world in many languages.

WHY-Jehovah's Witnesses don't do Christmas

------------
I was born Jehovah's Witness 1957 3rd generation.Yup,we didn't celebrate Christmas and were miserable the rest of the year too.
The reason JW's don't do Christmas is because their Watchtower leaders say so,the holiday has pagan aspects to it and by rejecting it the Watchtower appears "pure".

This "demand for purity" is one of the 8 marks of a cult.NOW the Watchtower can use this purity diversion to distract from their own practice of wicked deeds

Are they knocking at your door?
--------
Danny Haszard -expert witness on the Jehovah's Witness

I have a question for you. How can I get the JW to stop coming to my house. I swear they are in my neighborhood at least twice a week. They always come right around noon while my ds is taking a nap. Of course they wake him up grrrrr. Anyways what should we do? Should I call there pastor and make a complaint? I've been open to the people to come to my door by telling them I have a reglion and don't want a new one. They've asked me "have you found god?" I say yes, he was hiding under my bed! and close the door. I've been nice and rude. They never get the hint. My dh is seriously going to pull out his gun the next time they come just to scared them ( he's not going to point it at them or anything. Just be cleaning it and have it in his hands). Do you think that will work. What does it take to get them to stop coming to my door.

Oh and the funny thing about this is about 75% of them don't speak English and they make thier children do their dirty work!

Thanks

I think I agree with some of your points, but not all. There is nothing wrong with sharing your religion with others, I agree. If the other person isn't interested, then stop, I agree. JWs are no different, and are and should be allowed to share their religious views just like anyone else, I agree.

I believe I disagree, however, with the statement that "just b/c you don't agree on what they stand for doesn't make it 'false' or a 'cult.'" It's not the fact that I disagree with it that makes it a cult (to a Christian), but the fact that the JW religion doesn't hold to the teachings of the Biblical in all facets that makes it a cult. They say they use the Bible, but it is the New World translation, a version that has in fact been changed as necessary by its leadership to fit what they want the Bible to say. Additionally, a lot of people (some Christians included) say that we should always "respect" other people's opinions and faith, that it's the "loving Godly way of thinking." I don't see where we are told in the Bible to respect faiths that run contrary to that taught in the Bible, but if you have some Scripture to back it up I'd be curious to see it.
