I also fly competition radio control aircraft (http://www.mini-iac.com/DesktopDefault.aspx), big-birds (multi cylinder gasoline engines with 100"+ wing-spans), RC jets and helicopters. I'm partially sponsored by companies like Futaba, Dubro and Carden.

Lack of imagination while quickly trying to plan a WDW vacation many years ago. That's why I now have a nickname as well as a user name. I've also gotten married since then, so my username is in need of change anyway.

While the physics of flight itself are identical, the acts of flying RC v. scale are totally different.

It's much easier if you're actually sitting in the left-hand seat.

With RC, it's all visual. You have no feel and think about this, everything reverses (control-wise) every time you turn a base leg. then, 5 seconds later, it all reverses again. It's a constant challenge and while scale flying is too, it's much more relaxing.

With RC flying, you can never take your eye off the ball even for one second or there's $10k worth of toothpicks on the ground (with the birds I typically fly) you can pick up in a 30 gallon garbage bag. Been there. Done that. Many times. LOL

There's actually much more room for error in scale flying. Most wouldn't believe it but it's true. that's why crashes are a rarity while in RC flying, they are the norm. In RC flying we have a saying, "There are two kinds of aircraft; those that have crashed and those that are going to crash." Thank God scale flying isn't that way! LOL

Having said all that. I prefer scale flying simply because flying is what I love. I have my ticket via waiver because I'm color-blind or I would have gone OCS and flown in the Navy. I had'em fooled right up to the last minute medical. Noone ever knew I was color-blind except me until I was a senior in college.

I'd fly commercially today if they'd let me but they never will (and they shouldn't).

I just love flying. Period.

Diane/Rob, I just pulled out the old Cassell's German-English/English-German and schlicht means homely (not Diane, I know her), simple, modest, unpretentious, straightforward, sleek, smooth. But, then, she married into that name. So it really refers to her husband.
