Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

Those visiting Canada must stop at Tim Horton's though. Gotta get a coffee eh?

Thanks I will write this down and pass it onto my husband. He is a big coffee drinker.

Fortunately for those arriving in NYC via Penn Station don't have to wait until they get to Canada to get their 'Timmy' fix....there's one located inside Penn Station and across the street on 7th Ave. We make that our first and last stop in Penn Station. :woohoo:

Hopefully this link works to show all the NYC locations: http://www.timhortons.com/us/locator/locations.html?q_loc=new+york+city&x=80&y=20

It looks like tide will be high between 1 & 2 on the day we are in Saint John's, it is worth going to Hopewell Rocks if you only have an incoming tide? Is there anything to see not covered by water?

Those going on this cruise there is a Fish Exchanger sign up sheet on page 8 of the thread for August 5th. It is a lot of fun to do.

Well you can't go on the beach of course, but there is still the park, and the view, and the tops of the rocks would appear as little islands, not to mention you can likely see the water rise or fall.

Oh and Minnie Monellen, it might be easier to ask what restaurants don't sell Lobster atleast in Halifax. Any restaurant along the harbour likely will. in Saint John, I think you will find atleast one in the complex that holds the museum and if you follow the indoor walkways there are a couple up around the market at the far end. (the indoor walkways are a much easier way to get to the top of the hill).

These walkways sound like a good way to get up the hill toward the Citadel:thumbsup2, right? But would we miss stuff at street level? What would you recommend for an able bodied family to get from the Museum to the top of the hill? Thanks for all of this local info!

Well for St. john...if it is raining take the indoor route, if you want to browse, take the indoor route, then walk down if it is nice out! For halifax, well it is steep and longer than Saint John, but it is also has neat things to see on the outside.

My advice would be to proceed north on Lower Water until you reach George street.

Street View here

At that point, you will head uphill towards the old town clock (this will take you through Grand Parade and onto Carmichael Street.

Careful, Saint John's is in Newfoundland, Saint John is in NB. I just want to make sure you are checking tides in the right province :)

It is a bit of a pet peeve for some NBers when people mix them up ;)

That is very true, my wife still gets mad at me for typing St. instead of Saint. :confused3

Yup - someone mentioned St. John referencing NB up above but I did not correct them and I did not say St. John's in my post for the NFLD correction. I was more concerned someone was getting the wrong tide information.

The way I figure it is how the heck is the average American supposed to know the difference between St. John's and Saint John. I am thinking Canadian maritime georgraphy is not widely covered in the US school system :)

Now, if it was a Canadian who made the mistake, I would be more likely to correct them... ;)

My dh and I just booked the Magic in September to Canada and I am wondering what to do while we are there. We will be travelling to Halifax and St. John but cannot book excursions just yet. Anyone been to these ports and what did you enjoy most. Thanks.

I've merged your thread with the Canada info thread. There's tons of info in this thread for what to do in Halifax and Saint John.

Thanks JillJill.

And Welcome Donald and Daisy, If you scroll back a bit, you will see a posting of the current port adventures, scroll through this entire thread and you will get a feel for things to do other than the Disney Port Adventures.

You could also follow this link:

http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/cruises-destinations/shore-excursions/search/?facetValueName=fv_Port_halifax-nova-scotia to look at Saint john just unselect Halifax and select Saint John on the left hand side.

Thanks for the welcome. I will be sure to read this thread and look at your link.

We are also cruising to Canada in September - September 7 - 12. Looking forward to cruising out of NYC.

Not sure yet what we will be doing in Canada - some of the excurisions look interesting. Our only problem is we are cruising with my dad who is in his 80's and my stepson who will be 24 the day before the cruise. I don't think we will be able to get an excurision that both will enjoy. My have to send my husband with stepson and I will take my dad around.

What's the closest restaurant to the port for a lobster lunch in Halifax?

In Saint John?

There are a few very close in Saint John. I don't eat seafood (I don't like hockey either - I am a really horrible Maritimer & Canadian) but my husband suggests Steamers.

I think one in Halifax is called Salty's.
