Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

There are a few very close in Saint John. I don't eat seafood (I don't like hockey either - I am a really horrible Maritimer & Canadian) but my husband suggests Steamers.

I think one in Halifax is called Salty's.

I dislike hockey quite a bit myself, and would eat shrimp and scallops over lobster any day! Which reminds me, atlantic scallops and muscles are something you should try.

Would you be able to do this image for our cruise September 12 thru 17th? I believe the intinerary is reversed. I would also like to know if you could substitute Donald & Daisy Duck for Winnie the Pooh and Piglet (I know, not very canadian, but they are our favorite characters)

Thanks very much. I just love magnets for our stateroom door!! Just wish I had talent at making them lol!

You would be surprised how easy it is to do, and fun. However that particular design was made by Onkel Hans, and I haven't seen him on this thread for the last month or so. I will send him a message and ask permission to modify his designs then get back to you.

Quite a few people have mentioned great food places (market in Halifax) and beer places. Does anyone know if we are allowed to bring food back on board. I know there is enough food on the Disney ships to keep us full - but we are thinking of purchasing some food and beer in Canada and bringing it on the ship with us to take home.

Is this allowed from Canada?

Thanks,
Linda

Are there generally local cabs located in Halifax where the ships come in? I am thinking of taking my dad to the Citadel and I know it is not a long walk but have heard it is up a steep hill. My dad is in his early 80's and walking has become more difficult over the past few months. Just wondering if there are any local cabs that would take us there and if so - what would the charge be?

Thanks,
Linda

Linda here is an answer I received
about cabs

Do you think we can make it to the Citadel at 9am, and back to the port by noon? Will the Hop on Bus be running at that time or should we try for a cab?

Thanks

FYI a walk from Citadel to the ship would take 15 minutes (googlemaps lists 20 minutes), so no issue there. A cab would cost you about $7.

I have no doubt that ambassatours who owns the hop on hop off service will have their buses running. They run a very good business and are well aware of the Disney cruises!

Thanks for the info about the cabs. I was also thinking about the pink hop on hop off bus but not sure if it is worth it. How much hopping can we do in one day.

Linda

It's a small city, so you could stop quite a few places, but I guess it depends how long you plan to spend at each stop. The Citadel really is at the top of a steep hill, so you'd want some kind of vehicle to get you there if anyone has limited mobility.

The Discovery Centre is a fairly short walk from the port, partly up hill but it's not that bad. I wouldn't pay for the pink bus if you *just* want to go to the Discovery Centre, but if you're going to use it to tour the city in general then the Discovery Centre is worth a stop if you have young kids.

I have always heard about the fantastic tides at the Bay of Fundy. How far is it from Saint John to someplace to watch the tide come in or out? The train sounds interesting but will only see the tide at one height I think. Is there anyway to visit and go back later in the day? Could it be done by taxi and would that be expensive?:confused3

Taking our first cruise ever July 15. Subscribing to this thread! Thanks to the local folk and other DISers for the ideas and research! Can't wait!!

What do you suggest about money? Does everything take credit cards or we going to have to get money exchanged, like for the citadel, etc.

I will try to have something for you this weekend.

Onkel Hans....I would love to have that graphic as well, please. It already has the correct port itinerary for us. Just need the dates changed...July 15-20. Would it be possible to do Mickey and Minnie Mouse instead of Pooh and Piglet? Thanks bunches!!!

No rush! I appreciate you doing this for us.

I have never been to the Irving park in Saint John but I suppose it would work, mind you just sitting on the deck of the Ship and you will see it going up and down.

Most place will take Mastercard and Visa, many take American Express, Lots of places will likely exchange or there are banks that will for you. As far as I know you can bring back almost anything you want on the boat, but remember restrictions for fruit etc when you return to the states. Getting it on is easy getting it off is hard. No one checked our bags when we came back from Nassau, not that we had anything stronger than rumcake anyhow.
