November 12, 2005....7 Night Eastern...Who Else?

hello all-

awol-
the brewery we went to was alaskan amber in ketchikan. man, if it's closed the people at espn must be bummed out-they would rent the entire place out when the filmed the world lumberjack championships (we were there the day before they were filmed). if they have another branch (might be one in juneau?) and they serve food i'de def. give it a try.

we are fairly well settled-still lots of boxes in the garage but mostly stuff that's not needed right now, and probably allot that we could get rid of:rolleyes: we do have our priorities straight though-the hot tub was delivered and installed this week:banana:  just in time for a freakish hail storm like we've never seen in our lives-hail the size of marbles which left the hot tub, the deck and the yard in a good 2 inches of ice that lasted until the next morning-not to be deterred though-dh and the kids waited till the hail stopped and climbed on in:faint:

we have so far discovered (in our yard)-moose, deer, porcupines, chipmunks and a variety of birds. the cat (which did survive the move despite one attempted escape that had dh chasing her across a motel parking lot early one morning) desparatly wants to go outside, but we have decided that between the ticks and the porcupines she is better suited to stay in (so she yowls at the slider). the kids are settled into school-but they will be done with that a week from today, then ds is going to start karate and dd will wait until she does her 2 weeks at sleepaway camp.

no vacations planned any time in the near future with the exception of some kind of amusement park in idaho (they call it the wdw of the pacific north west:rotfl2: )-but that's only about an hour away. i don't think we'll be doing any wdw until maybe 2008-and then i'de like to work it out where we do a realy long one-at least 15 days (we'll use our dvc points in one chunk), we've never done universal and still have over a week left on our non expiring park hoppers from the last cruise/trip so i figure if we're going to travel all that way we better make it worthwhile.

i ask also-where is everyone, what are you doing????? i hear that disney's building 2 new ships, any ideas on where those might take all of us to????

Hello! We had a great cruise 'scary' one! I've never been to Alaska, and it was more then I could of ever dreamed about. It's huge and just beautiful! The ship (RCCL-Serenade of the Seas), well, she is SO beautiful! We had a Grand Suite this trip and it was well worth the extra. The room had a DOORBELL:cool2: For some reason I still can't believe that part. Boarding went way too smooth. Got there around 11 a/m, and they let us board! We were on the ship by 11:35! Couldn't go to the room until excatly 1:00, but we didn't care. We left port late for some reason, but by then the beers had taken over:upsidedow First stop: Sitka. Went kayaking. So pretty. You think your on a lake or a river, but it's the ocean. The trip over to the floating kayaking building was even better:banana: Went by the ship at mock speed in a 'dingy' sort of a boat. Really fun. Second stop: Skagway. We took the White Pass train trip. Fours hours (long for the girls), but we loved it. Skagway has so much history. It was a beautiful trip up the mountain and then back down. I know you can take a bus/train combo. That may be better for some. Took the girls back to the ship and my DH and I went exploring on our own. Went to the museum. Very interesting stuff. Loved the short film. Of course we went to the local saloon and I had several Alakan ambers:upsidedow Verrrrry good stuff! Sat right at the bar, and watched all the goings on:thumbsup2 Third stop: Juneau. Mendenhall Glacier and Salmon bake. We all loved the bake. Good food and of course more amber for Mom:thumbsup2
DD (6) did the rock wall several times and had a fan club after! I still can't believe she climbed that thing:eek:
DD (4) never wanted to leave the kids club, but she really liked the indoor pool. Which is normally for adults, but on the Alaska trip from 12-4 they allow 'c h i l d r e n' Don't think some cared for that:snooty:
I'd go back today. It was a great trip and RCCL really takes care of you.
Sorry if this was long. Hope everyone is doing well.
:grouphug:

The brewery that closed was Ketchikan Brewing Co. So, that probably wasn't it. Alaskan Amber, however, is the name of a beer brewed by Alaskan Brewing Co in Juneau. Hence, my confusion. In any case, you can rest assured that if there is a brewery in Ketchikan, I WILL find it!! :rotfl2:

I'm guessing that they will take us to the poor house!

Sounds like a fantastic trip! And NO, it wasn't long. Any pictures you can share? We're well into our anal planning for our 2008 Alaska cruise! Of course, our DS train freak will get to ride the train in Skagway.

DW, kids, inlaws all went over to DL for a week. I couldn't get that much time off, so I was supposed to stay home. But, I surprised them and showed up on their doorstep for the weekend. Still not sure if they were excited or horrified to see me ;) I only got to go the park for one day, though. Our APs were blacked out for Sat/Sun. But, that should hold me over until our Sept trip.

I better get back to work now :(

send me a pm with your mailing address and i would be happy to pass on a couple of books we got before we cruised alaska. they are on the ports and what's available in each. if you are hyper planning excursions do a google search for temesco-they do the bulk of the cruise line excursions (helicopters, glasiers, sled dogs....)-you can buy a dvd that gives a good chunk and overview of the excursions offered. it's only about 20.00 and it is much more informative than the info. the lines give (but be warned-with some of the excursions like the sled dog camp-make sure you reserve the first possible day, otherwise it will be sold out).

Did you do your dive cruise yet?

Where is everybody? Come back! I have to admit I've been spending most of my time over on CC since booking the Ak cruise... I still check subscribed threads here every once in a while though...

Have a great long weekend!

Hi there - we are back from the dive cruise and I need to post a trip report, not done yet, but will post.

Weather - well, not the best.....diving, not the best as vis was poor, and weather was poor.....but vacation was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

later....

PS - spent the last weekend at WDW....it was raining - why not leave town...

Rock on!.............you guys still exist! You are such troopers! We are all well.............just got back from, "the Valley", as I think AWOL is calling Vegas!? So loved seeing it (once!) and I LOVED BEatles Circ del Soleil (sp?). It was so great ! Playing at the Mirage on the Strip and DH and the kids were loving it just as much! If you ever are passing through Vegas and you even remotley like the Beatles music, this is a MUST SEE!:cool1:

I did expose our kids to some heavy duty drinking, gambling, smokin', lovin', crazy crap! You have to literally haul your kids through the casinos of all of the major hotels to go anywhere! They saw a lot............but they had a great time, as did we. We even snuck downstairs in the Flamingo one night after they were fast asleep to eat, drink and be merry. Am I bad?:confused3
Didn't spend one dime on gambling.............DIS NURSE is too cheap for that.........she's saving for her next vacation...........
Which, BTW...............anyone want to join us at an all inclusive the last week in March 2008 in Cancun? We are thinking about the Crown Paradise Club, Cancuna and with the airfare being a rippin' deal right at the moment, we are probably booking it soon!
We are all ligned up to go on our third DCL this Nov 10th on another 7 night Eastern............and going to France in the Fall without kids to bike and hike through southern France with about 20 other people! How am I gonna keep up my addiction for vacations? I will pull more shifts, that how!

Hope all is well with everyone..............love checking in every once and again and hearing about everyone's life adustments..........AWOL, are you guys about melting yet? My folks will be heading up to Oregon in a few weeks.........away from your killer heat............I was there mid March when it was sooooo hot and nice............loved it! Got a base tan for my first trip to Hawaii..............then I was blessed with a second trip with girlfriends to Waikiki a month later!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I spoiled.............????????????????? Not really..............I work my *** off! Am I going to my grave with a large savings account? No.................but I will go with a big smaile on my face and my retirement is worth a bundle.
BTW, DH is doing awesome! Hiking, biking, hang gliding, and running! A nice tan on that chest and you can hardly see that scar anymore, it's crazy!:goodvibes

See ya, DIS NURSE:thumbsup2

Thank you for the offer! But, I don't think it's going to be necessary. It's funny that there are about 9000 excursions for such a tiny amount of port time! Our plans are pretty much already made for us - partially by lack of budget and partially by interest (I AM fishing in Ketchikan and DS will get to ride his train lol). I would love to do one of those flights w/sledding, but they are going to be out of budget this time - not that I think we'll have time to one of those anyway! lol

Hey Globe Trotter! I can see how you would be confused about my valley comment with all of your travels and not checking in for so long! I was referring to the Valley of the Sun - Phoenix ;) We are having a cold front move through here now - we should only get up into the low to mid 90s the rest of this week :cool2: Of course, it was like 108 yesterday...

And, yes, you ARE spoiled! But, there's nothing wrong with that when applied properly! Go for it. Life is short, make it a Nike commercial...

:goodvibes Don't know how we are going to pull this one off.............but DIS NURSE just bought 4 roundtrip airplane tickets for Cancun next spring break!:cool1: Such a rockin' deal! I am soooooooooo stoaked for that one....we loved our last trip there.......but went 30 mi. south to the Rivera Maya area. This time staying at AI on the "strip" somewhere. I have our eyes set on the Crown Paradise Club, Cancun.

I had better get busy changing diapers and feeding those babies on my days off for overtime!

You are right, life is short................ and no one will ever stand up at my funeral and say, "Poor DIS NURSE...........she worked so hard all of her younger years and never really got to vacation with her family."

They'll say instead, "she really lived on the edge, ya' know.........not much of a saving account but a vault full of beach pictures and happy memories."

:woohoo: :woohoo:

P.S. Got our tickets for $428 pp roundtrip from our little poe-dunk town to Cancun!.......all the way from the West Coast!

sounds nice-but i don't think i'de want to travel to any popular destinations during spring break:scared1: in fact we were just 'warned' today to stear clear of the spokane/coeur de lane area around father's day weekend and into the next week-apparantly there's some yearly 'iron man' event that pulls in people from all over the u.s. and canada and the areas a mad house.

we'll just be sticking close to the new place-plenty to keep us busy-and plenty to look at. in fact we had a very disney moment just a couple of days ago-i wandered into the living room in time to see a beautiful doe directly in front of our window with a fawn that could'nt have been more than a few days old. looked just like bambi, wobbly legs, spots and all:love:

all of you that are traveling-stay safe.

Hi everyone!
The gangs all here and doing great! We went to Orlando last month for 6 nights and only went to the Magic Kingdom and then decided to stay on property at Universal and give it a try. Loved it! We stayed at The Royal Pacific Resort - have I said I loved it yet?! It was so nice and Haley REALLY loved Universal and Islands of Adventure - to our surprise. Her only gripe is that she was too short to ride the "big rides". She would yell at the guy holding the pole to measure her in front of every ride and tell them she really is a big girl. It was funny - she is a dare devil and did everything she was allowed to. Going with Alex wasn't too difficult either - the worst part of the trip was all of the smoke! One morning it was so bad the fire alarms were going off on the rides at Islands of Adventure so they couldn't open some of the rides till later on. We need rain over here in GA and FL - so if you got any to spare send it on over!
Alex is doing awesome - he's a little peanut compared to other babies his age but is growing just fine. He may be my last baby so I am enjoying every diaper change, feeding and snuggle I can! Haley will be 4 going on 47 next month - she is a sweet girl but quite the challenge. She truly thinks she is a princess and should be treated like one.
No more vacations planned just yet but we are really hoping to get on the Freedom of the Seas before the end of the year. We never plan in advance - which annoys me a little but is exciting just the same.
Hope you are all doing well and are healthy and happy!
Happy Summer!
Jessica

Hi to everyone................:wave2: It is so great to hear that everyone is doing well.
I hope that your travels or non-travels are safe and happy................:grouphug: and the bottom line is,

party: hug your family and appreciate the moment!

Take Care, DIS NURSE:rolleyes:

Thought I would share this - no not our dive trip report - but this past weekend...

WOW – What a beautiful and spectacular dive. The skies were blue and the seas were 1-2 (mm – that is!). The sea was literally as flat as glass. We pulled out with a full boat and a newbie receiving her certification if she had a successful dive…

Flying fish escorted us to our site. The Capt’n slowed, nowhere near the dive site, as he had spotted a 10 foot manta ray, cruising near shore. We stayed with him for a while, until he got too close to shore.

Our first dive site was Bath and Tennis Club Reef, about 45-50 down, with vis around 60’. The dive was like diving in a huge aquarium, there were that many fish…to name a few, Queen angels, green and spotted moray, porcupine fish, schools of spade fish, a scorpion fish hiding amidst the gorgonians, parrotfish of all ages, yellow grunts,, and tiny, teeny fish to numerous to mention. Alas, no cleaner crabs. However, we happened upon a large loggerhead resting in the reef at the beginning of the dive, when surfacing we saw her – or her cousin again. Did I mention we were drift diving?

Our surface interval was as unique as you will ever have – again the Capt’n slowed. A LEATHERBACK was surfacing – oh my! We saw and heard this adult surface and swim around the boat. Her head was completely out of the water and the size of a 5 gallon bucket. Her eyes were clear and open, and I bet she thought that she could get the silly humans to do tricks. Well, she did. She circled the boat and we circled her. She surfaced clearly about 5-7 times. A camera, does anybody have a camera –only about 6 underwater ones on board. Pity! So the mate dropped off and snorkeled with her. Now we were watching her and his hand signals…there she is!

The dive briefing came along with spotted dolphins. This day the surface was as exciting as the deep. The second dive was off The Trench. Due to the current we headed the opposite of the dive plan, and were again treated to a plethora of fish. Puffers were everywhere, including inside barrel sponges. Moray eels again, including a tiny small 8 inch spotted eel. While turning to watch two young girls surface with their father a teenage turtle almost ran into me….

A few pictures will help.

Glad that the Barkleys are well settled in the new home and have their priorities in order - hot tub....yeah!!!!!!

Is seems the duck will have lots of company with that list of critters visiting you...sounds like a wonderful place to live (to cold for me - though).

I can imagine after a move like you had there are no vacations planned...But if you make it to Orlando and venture to Universal, consider also venturing to Sea World...lots of fun....and the Duck can Dive (well sorta).

Also let Barley's DH know that it is time for a repeat dip in the Living Seas, or did I misremember...if he has not done that dive, it is a must!

As for the 2 new ships, what I heard is that the new ships will be based out of Port Canaveral. They will move the Magic to LA and the Wonder will be a roaming ship....At least what I heard.

Take care Barkley's and good luck unpacking...

howdy 4Campers....you at least have your trip report ready, I am still working on mine.

You took the trip we were planning in this year...I would so much like to do an Alaskan cruise, sometime maybe...it is so far from Fla.

BTW - why did you leave port....we drink ours... :rotfl2:

The excursions sound perfect and as beautiful as you discribe.

I'll keep RCCL in mind if we ever make it up there.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Hey Princes Haley Family......sorry you were here in the midst of the smoke. We took a short trip for the Epcot Flower and Garden and the Saturday was pergect but the smoke moved down and - boy - haze city. Still it makes you thankful that we are all safe. I hope the recent rains are finally putting your GA fires out...

Good luck for a Freedom of the Seas adventure.....

Happy Summer back at ya!

Sounds like you have to rest the trip timer DisNurse - have a wonderful time planning for Cancun.....never been there - so I need to put that on the list....I hear there is good diving......which seems to be a pull of our recent vacations, which you will all hear about if I ever finish the trip report.

But who am I to talk, we are taking the Magic back through PC to LA, if all goes well next year....

But did I hear your right - the DisNurse is stripping:rotfl:

Great news about the bookings for the summer, STB ont he beach -- you all needed that up your way. And way to stoke up -- WDW.........

Take it easy the rest of the summer......

Gosh that was fun....all caught up now and added to our post count indeedy.

Time to go Birthday shopping......

LAter....

WHEW! That took some catching up! C & D & F.............your trip report and pictures are so awesome! I mean, really............those are so great Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2 You take the time to see the wonders of the world and you will leave this earth more complete people becuase of it!

I KNOW you need to go to Cancun coast on a land trip just to dedicate a whole week of diving there cause I have friends who have done just that and they were so amazed! Cozumel got blasted and is sadly changed but Cancun has lots to offer still.

What about new ships? Can you clue me in? I don't have to time to even surf the Boards much anymore..................what have they announced and when would they have these ships in service? I love the Magic..........she will feel like home to us in November, i know...........but I would jump on another one in a second (new ship) in the next few years if i thought it offered something different.

Do tell!?

See ya, DIS NURSE:goodvibes

Hey Disnurse - There was a thread on the new ships but I checked and it is closed, so other than what I just mentioned, I no NOTHING,,,,,,new,,,

so sorry.
