Disney to Stop Commercial Bookings?

This just happened to me for one night reservation…at BLT .
I booked a studio for me , the owner of points at BLT and then booked a 2 bedroom for my daughter & family for one night atBLT Xmas Eve .She is not owner or associate but the only person ever named on my reservations and I usually kept my name on both reservations. This is the first time I was told I could not be on both reservations .But when I removed my name and listed my daughter and her husband and 2 children …I could not make any changes to the reservation even tho they were my points … I would think this could be a surprise , if enforced, for future owners . Do you think this is a new method to start controlling rentals ?
I can’t imagine trying to keep track of points if I did renting ?
by making changes you mean, you couldn't change the dates or add additional names?

Both are something you can do regardless if your name is on the reservation or not. As the DVC member and owner of the points you have the reservation in your account and therefore you control the reservation. You could cancel it if you wanted to.

If MS refused to make any changes then its a different matter - like a CM which was hired yesterday and shouldn't have been allowed to take any calls yet.

Here’s an update:

Late ysterday afternoon I received an email from David’s telling me they had a guest interested in one of my two reservations. Pretty amazing since they had launched on Sunday.

Today I called Membership Services to modify the guest list and contact information on the reservation. The CM handled the changes very efficiently and was unfazed when I mentioned I was renting out the reservation. This particular CM seemed to fully understand that renting out a reservation does not change the nature of the reservation from personal to commercial.

Thanks to all the help I received here I was fully prepared to handle any pushback, but there was none whatsoever. All 5s for David’s, the CM, and the DISboards family!

This is great to hear! And it supports that some frontline CMs have simply interpreted things differently and add their own take.

It also supports everything we know. Renting is allowed up until the time an owner reaches a high enough level that DVC has concerns that the owner is showing a pattern that rises to a level that can be considered a commercial enterprise, practice or purpose!!

The posts I read where the CM "was hired yesterday" as you put it seems to be people not actually being upfront about it being a rental and trying to skirt the topic.

So seemingly either be up front or just say its a friend and move on.

As I replied in the other thread with the same post

December has always been very busy.

Which resort was not available in a 1br at 11 months?

On top Disney has taken all value rooms out for maintenance at AKV Jambo.
I couldn’t get a BW View BWV 1Br at 8am 11 months for Dec - but I’m not bothered by it - I was able to pickup 3 of the nights I wanted and WL the 4th…
On another note - last year I had 23 (maybe more) active reservations within a 12 month period - most were under my name (lots of split stays and 1 nighters at HH)…but 4 did not have my name on the reservation…and while 3 of the 4 overlapped my reservations (traveling with family and wanted multiple rooms)…one was a real rental. I did not hear a peep from Disney.

It's possible your 24 reservations triggered a review, they looked at your reservations and concluded they are very clearly not commercial.

Possible - but we’ll never know. I guess my point is I personally don’t believe individual owners like me need to fear renting as we have always done…

I agree 100%.
Unfortunately, it seems DVCMC hasn't been good enough with training and some members are being harassed when they're doing what they're entitled to.

I have no idea how I would answer the "personal use" question if I were holding as an LLC, which is common and totally legal. An LLC is a company, not a person. Personal use is not even possible. I mean, people are using the reservation, I guess?

They would have to just say yes because DVC had chosen not to add the word recreational to match the contract for them.

Which, IMO, was because they are not concerned about thar bexause it’s semantics in the scheme of things.
