Not The Location You Requested. What do YOU do?

I typically only request a top floor. If I really want the view then I'll try to book that particular view and hope for the best. I've found the lower floors to be noisy in some of the resorts, mainly from toilets flushing or tubs filling in the rooms above, LOL. Only on one trip did I actually ask to change rooms...they had put us in a 2nd floor, garden view. I just called the front desk from that room and asked if they had anything else available...ended up with 4th floor and Epcot view. :) I wasn't going for the better view...just the upper floor, LOL.
ps - I do realize that if I ever book at BLT, my request for a top floor might go unheeded, LOL!

A request is a request. Sometimes I make no requests and end up with the greatest of rooms that I might not have known existed otherwise. When I do make a request and get exactly opposite of what I requested I'm still happy... after all, we're in Disney and there is an upside to everything.

I just deal with it, like when I got the dedicated 2 br at VWL at the end of the long hallway instead of the dedicated atrium 2 br that I requested.

this question made me giggle because if you ever want to see serious breakdowns over views wander over to the resort boards where room request garner more attention than the Israeli/Palenstinian peace talks. ;)

Generally, unless some thing is broken or blantantly dirty, I rarely request to move.

#1 I fully admit to some degree of laziness and anticipation. when I check in, I'm usually bouncing off the walls to get to the park. No way am I schleping back downstairs to request a room change.

I can honestly say after getting the "dumpster" view at WL, that my vacation was just as magical. C'est le Vie

Maybe that's the way to go. I always request a high room and in five trips, I have never gotten about the 3rd floor in BCV and then am disappointed with the lower floors.

I do worry about my room assignment but knowing that so many don't get their requests met I don't make them. However at least three times now when I stepped into our room for the first time I'm immediately convinced I won't like the location.

So far, each and every location has been absolutely fine, even the ones I was certain I wouldn't like. LOL LOL

We ask if a different room location is available, doesn't hurt to ask. If one is great, if not we take the one they gave us..smjj

I don't make many requests anymore. Like PP I have requested "upper floor" and found myself on the ground floor at BWV next to the DVC rooms. I did say "not xx60 or xx62" at VWL to avoid the dumpster, and got xx61 (opposite side of the hall). That's a long walk from the elevator, but we enjoyed the stay. :confused3

Last year I was going to make a room request for a stay at Poly (not on points) but never did and to our surprise we were upgraded to club level! :cool1: I always have wondered if I made a request for a specific building if we would not have gotten that magical upgrade. I know upgrades almost never occur at DVC resorts since nearly everything is booked. But if I did make a request for a building, floor, room, view...that wasn't available when I check in, I would definitely survive, maybe whine a bit to DBF, but definitely survive! :lmao:

Last summer we stayed at AKV-Jambo for 7 nights and I did ask for a new room assignment, as we "paid" (in points) for a Savannah room but did not receive one. Since we checked in early (we did online check-in where the CM handed us our folder/keys, verified my phone number and told me they'd text me the room number but said she didn't know where it was), I didn't get the text until around 3pm while we were in DTD and by the time we got back to AKV it was early evening.

At that point the front desk was telling me to call Member Services (which was closed), and I finally got someone behind the front desk to realize what happened and they moved us. (They told us they were moving us to a view of the Arusha Savannah but it was really Uzima, so it seems like they still didn't know where any of the rooms were.)

Anyways, in that instance, since we were being charged more point-wise for a specific view, I felt we should either get that view or have the extra points back. But otherwise, sometimes I'll put in a request, and if it's important, I'll ask very nicely (like begging to not be on the ground floor one year because I'd spent the first part of the trip eaten alive by mosquitos) and sometimes it works out. But for the most part I've been pleased with our room assignments.
