I have been reading the reviews here for months, and, really wanted to take photos and give y'all a well thought out , well written review, but, kids and Disney got in the way :yay: so this is the best I can do. I want to just give some feedback while it is fresh in my mind (got back last night).

This is our first DDP exp. We are a family of 5. DH,Myself, DD 12 *Severe Tree Nut Allergies*, DS 10 and DD 7 (disabled/medically fragile). So we had 4 adults and one child per the DDP.

Our ADR's were as follows.

Coral Reef 8:00 Dinner
Kona Cafe 6:30 Dinner
Les Chef's De France 7:30 Dinner
Yak and Yeti (supposed to be Spoodles but had to cancel d/t crowds and unable to get back for a 5:00 ADR)
Akershus Princess Breakfast 9:30am
Crystal Palace dinner 8:00
1900 Park Fair Dinner 6:30
Ohana Dinner 5:00

(Canceled Cape May - will explain in Review to follow).

I'm here for the food reviews. :cool1:

My Son really wanted to eat here. I originally had ADR for Garden Grill, but, DS 10 really wanted CR so I changed it.

Our ADR was for 8:00. We arrived at 7:40 and were seated in 10 minutes. We requested a tank side table d/t my DD 7 and her disabilities but there was a long wait so we took the table assigned to us, which, as it turned out was a better choice. Second Tier booth.

I am going to use a rating system of 1-10 (10 being the best) to keep it easy for me to remember.

I was skeptical about my two kids being considered adults, well , mostly for my DD 12 as she eats very little. In the end it was a wash, and way too much food for her. I wish Disney could make a JR Dining plan, similar to the system at fast food places of 'big kids' meals and discount the dining a bit.

The quick run down of our overall exp.

Service = 8
Atmosphere = 6

Order of French Fries
Carrot Sticks
Spirte
Make your Own Sundae

My food was VERY good overall. The Salad was crisp, fresh and the best I had in a long time. My fish was cooked well (grouper) and was nicely flavored and a good portion. The butterscotch Creme Brulee' was also tasty. I ate all of my entree and enjoyed it very much.

My DH enjoyed his meal, but said it was nothing special. He felt the Chocolate wave was just ok. The Mahi Mahi was cooked and flavored ok but overall he said he could take or leave this meal.

My DS 10 Ate every bite and loved his meal, including the Spatzle. He is very adventerous in eating and said he liked it. He said the smoothie was just ok, lots of ice clusters in it.

My DD 12 said her steak tasted funny, I tried it and I had to agree , too much grease and not a nice flavor. It also was not a great cut, lots of grizzle and chewy. Was cooked med/rare as requested. The potatoes were good and nicely seasoned. My DH ate her Mango Sorbet and Fruit as he did not care for the The Wave and DD was too full from earlier meals and her smoothie to eat it.

My DD 7 picked at her fries then ate her Make Your Own Sundae. Nothing Specatular.. just fries and vanilla ice cream.

We were served bread and dipping oil to start. This was very tasty and enjoyed by all.

Overall thoughts. We were glad to not be seated by the tank because they had a ton of divers in the tank who kept coming up to the tables and waving. This would have scared DD 7 and also I didn't think I'd like to have divers floating around and starring at me eating , though, it was funny at first watching them do it to other diners. From a distance it was fun to watch them.

Our view of the tank was quite good, but, after 15 minutes it wasn't all that entertaining . The place was loud which took away from the ambience. Had it been quieter I think It would have made it better. There were alot of Kids running around the lower seating area which would have been annoying if I were seated there.

Our food was good, but, nothing to get excited over. I felt overall the prices at this place were high for what the portions and quality were if I had to do it without the DDP.

I think this place would be best for a Late Lunch on a hot day. The place is cool and dark and has some really interesting fish/sharks/turtles to see.

Would we eat there again?, yes, if on the DDP, and only for Lunch but not OOP, we just didn't find it worth the expense. Service was VERY good , attentive and not over or under done. We did feel a bit rushed which, seems to be the case at all places when busy though. While the food was good - it wasn't remarkable enough to make me want to go back just for that reason.

We ate OOP at the BC Marketplace for a late breakfast since we arrived at 10:00 am for Check-In had basic breakfast fare muffins, pastries.. all week the food at the marketplace was consistantly good.
I do not recall what we ate for Lunch because it was such a busy day.

I do know three of us got Ice Cream Cones from the Cart in France (Waffle Cones) and they were yummy and used our Snack Credits for them.

Our next two meals, Kona Cafe' and Chef's De France were two of the BEST dining experiences and food we ever had, and we have traveled and eaten out A LOT. Words will not due these places justice. Our bill at Chef's was over 300.00 (tip included in it) and felt while normally we would not spend that much on a meal.. this exp was worth it. The kids still talk about Kona and Chef's so I am excited to share...

That was the condensed non-visual (sorry no pics ) first day!!!! :cheer2:

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

I made this reservation as a replacement for Tutto Italia. None of my family likes :sad2: Itallian food .. but it is my favorite. I wanted to try something different. I was married in Hawaii and have lovely images of Polynesian food from the trip still in my mind 13 years later so I reluctantly reserved this place.

The Quick Numbers:

Sevice = 9
Food = 10
Atmosphere = 8
Value = 9

We had a 6:30 ADR and arrived at 6:20 and was seated at 6:25. We had a 1/2 booth/1/2 table set up which was roomy enough for 5. My DD7 stayed in her wheelchair which slid under the table at the head of the table allowing even more room for us around the table.

With DD having severe nut allergies, this place scared me the most. The Chef came out and spent a good deal of time assuring us her safety.. he was fabulous and made it not only safe but such a wonderful exp for all of us. :wizard::flower3:

Service began a little annoying. I got tired of the pitch about the DDP and what was or was not included. I understand why this is done, but, I felt it a bit 'forward' at times, especially , with this server. We explained we knew that Tip and Apps were not included and that we really just needed to know if any menu items were off limits. After that she stopped brining it up. She was attentive and welcoming, drinks were refilled and we were not feeling overly rushed once we ordered.

This place would be better if it were not open to the lobby and had better spacing between tables. This is my only complaint. However, that being said, it helps when you dine there with kids so you are not worried about how loud they are.. however, that being said too my kids were too busy enjoying the meal they didn't say a word!!! :worship:

We did not order Apps, but enjoyed the bread and Macadamia nut butter tremendously. The butter was like heaven in a cup :cloud9:. DD 12 was given her own safe bread and butter which made her feel very special.

For Dinners we ordered:

Service was complete, and outstanding. Our needs were tended to and never over or under served. Our 9 was mostly because of the pushiness of the 'pitch' about the DDP, tip and such.. but without it, I give this a hands down '10'

DH subbed fries for Mashed Pot. , as did DS 10. Both our steaks were cooked to perfection , a wonderful cut, so tender and the flavor was extra special. The fries were hot and crisp, and my mashed potatos were perfect. The broccoli was crisp, yet , very flavorful and easy to eat. There was nothing left on either DH or my plate!

DS never had Prime Rib and could have licked his place (or eaten it) . It was a beautiful seasoned cut, low fat, lots of tender flavorful med/rare meat (I know because I tasted it!!) His sides were very good too!!

DD 12 said that was her favorite meal in a long time. The shrimp were well cooked and the noodles very tasty, She added sauce herself to her liking.

DD 7 ate her apple slices which she was obsessing over since seeing an apple picture on the menu. Our server snuck out and found a box of apple dippers and made her day :hug: .. followed by a few fries and vanilla ice cream she was very happy.

DD 12 ordered the Choclate Fondue, which, all nut items were removed from and replaced with the largest assortment of fresh fruit I have seen in a long time. She was in heaven. DH and I ordered and enjoyed this so much :love:

DS 10 had the Kona Kone , what's not to like about a Giant Waffle Cone with a fluff of Cotton Candy!!!!!

Overall this was one of the best meals I have had in ages ... :cheer2::yay:

Hi, VERY nice reviews!! :thumbsup2 Cannot wait for more!! Joan

Awesome reviews! I had the exact same meal as you at Coral Reef and I loved it! DH had the NY Strip and was very disapointed in it

Cannot wait for more!

Oh My.. Where to begin with this wonderful experience. :lovestruc

It just get's a 10 across the board, it was very expensive, our meal before the dining plan credit including tip was 340.00.. I would not normally pay that much for a meal but this was worth the experience. Also note that we ordered a bottle of wine and tipped highly which is in this total. OOP for this meal ended up being 140.00 above the dining plan.

I didn't want to eat here. My DH is from the Netherlands but lived/traveled throughout Europe and when he saw there was a French restraunt he just had to go. I tried as hard as I could to pick somewhere else.. but he said it has been 10 year since he has had anything close to French food and he had to have it. OK.. at 7:00 we lumbered reluctantly over from Beach Club where we begged him to cancel.. OMG I am so glad we did not. Hands down - if we ate here for the rest of the week everynight we would have been happy :dance3:!

We checked in for our 7:30 ADR at 7:00 and were seated at 7:15 at a 6 top table. DD 7 stayed in her WheelChair again.

Once were were in , we could tell the server was already annoyed with us (using DDP and looked a bit rough from being at the pool and parks all day) and gave us the 'DDP Pitch' and immediatly followed with Do you know what you want to drink?? question before we even opened the menu.. we told her no, we needed a minute and she walked off to come back in just ONE MINUTE .. LOL.. this was sorted out quickly though. DH began speaking to her in French.. (he is fluent) and this changed her attitude a lot. We explained that we know what it included in the DDP but we will order what we want and are prepared to be charged for the extras and yes, WE ARE AWARE THE TIP IS NOT INCLUDED .. they do drive this point to death.

Anyway..

DH ordered a Very nice bottle of Red Wine ($50.00) for us and it was a very nice quality Merlot that we enjoyed.

( I am having technical problems so I can't cut and paste the exact menu terms, will update that soon)

He followed that with an order of the Rustic Pate' platter and an order of the Cheese Assortment.

The server did a complete turnaround, she was impressed with his selection and found great Joy in watching him eat his appetizer in which the kids and I stared at him sucking down what appeared to be Catfood with a smile on his face :rotfl: , we did not dare touch it.. he ate every bite and said it was very close to what he was used to. He and the server had a discussion about the food being toned down to American taste but she could work it up if we needed.. She even poured our wine and let us relax.

The kids and I shared (well DH sneaked some too) the Cheese Plate. This assortment was very tasty, but, not what I was expecting. My kids an I are used to Cheese from all around the world and found, while perfectly served, very Americanized in flavor, except for the Brie, which was very nice. The Cheese was served at the right temperature so it really enhanced the flavor.

DD 7 was brought a large salad as an appetizer, which, she nibbled a bit. It was incredibly fresh with lots of lovely leafy greens.

Our Server brought us some bottled water and helped keep our wine glasses full.

For our meals.

DD12 and DS10 got the French Menu.

DD 12 got the Onion Soup, Macaroni and Cheese and Lemon Tart

DS 10 got the Lobster Bisque, Rotissere Chicken and Profiteroles

DD 7 got French Fries, Chicken Strips and Vanilla Ice Cream with a special treat from the server , a large bowl of FRESH SUGAR COATED STRAWBERRIES!

DH got the Pepper Tenderloin which came with Au Gratin Potatoes and Green Beans , cooked Medium Rare, followed by Creme Brulee and Coffee.

I had the same but added a bowl of Onion Soup.

Before the appetizers were served, we were given a nice round crusty french roll. If I were to complain a bit here, I would have liked to have a nice whipped butter rather than the hard , cafeteria style butter packet.. the rolls were devoured by all of us.

My son did not like the Lobster Soup, too odd for him, but he tired. The server saw he was not eating and immediatly tried to get him something else. He is not a soup kid at all so this was not big deal.

My DD an I felt this was the best Onion Soup we EVER had. Hands Down.

Our Meals arrived perfectly cooked , hot and a lovely presentation. Our tenderloin's were HUGE and could be cut with a fork, each bite exploded in flavor . The potatoes had a lovely cheese sauce and were perfect with this. The green beans were crisp, plenty and a wonderful addtion to this plate.

DD 12 said she does not like Macaroni and Cheese but had to try this because is had her favorite Cheese in it. I tasted this marvelous dish and wished I could come back and get it the next day. It was filling, rich and full of the most amazing flavors.

DD 10 sucked down his Chicken and he changed the mashed potatoes for Fries. He didn't speak until it was all gone.. in which he said.. it was a tough call between Kona and Chefs.. he loved them both!!!

DD 7 had Fries - these were the best fries in Disney. European style crisp hot fries.. yummy. Her Chicken was good too (she only ate the fries). They do not have a sundae so we ordered plain vanilla ice cream. The server was sad for her and came out with a GIANT bowl fo fresh strawberries which she actually ate since they did not have sprinkles or m&m's for her ice cream.

The creme brulee was perfect. Light and Airy, very nice flavor and was a nice ending to an outstanding meal. The coffee was piping hot and nice, and refils were given as we lingered at the table to the servers delight :grouphug:

DD 12 talked about her Lemon Tart for days.. It was that good. DD 10 loved his desert so much he wanted to see if they could do a take out version the next day.

I can't believe how surprised I was about the whole experience, the minute I met the server I thought.. Great.. this is going to be lousy.. How wrong I was.. I am so glad , as is DH and the kids that I didn't cancel this.. everything else was just 'food' after this ..

I honestly have to say, after growing up in NYC and traveling quite a bit, the meat was one of the finest cuts I have had in ages.

:love::cloud9::love::cloud9::love::cloud9::love::cloud9::love::cloud9::cloud9:

Great reviews so far!! We love Kona and look forward to our first night dinner there in just 18 days!!

We were very surprised by Kona. When I saw the Chef again at Ohana days later I had to compliment him on such a wonderful meal. I didn't hear much about this place before and was reluctant to try something that wasn't as reviewed as say a Le Celier.. but it was fabulous in every aspect.

I'm enjoying that your reviews are full of details and your meals sound delightful so far. Just one clarification, when your "adult" children ordered the French menu, was that included in the DDP or was there an extra charge? Les Chefs is on our ADR list for dinner one night in June and I'm trying to get some ideas of what we can expect on the DDP as it will be our first time using it too.

The french menu was included in the DDP. However , you were limited in the entree selection. The kids were going to order the entree's that were on the menu so by doing the French Menu they got the Soup for no seperate charge.

French menu offered a choice of Two Soups or a Salad
Four Different entrees
and a three deserts.

The 'Adult' kids however could have ordered any entree or desert on the menu but would have had to pay for the Soup OOP as it is considered an appetizer. I hope that made sense..

The kids wanted to try the soup so by them odering the French Menu saved me about 13.00 by having the soup included.

I hope you like Chef's as much as we did!!!
Nicole

Nicole, we love Chef's too!

One thing - without taxing yourself too much ;) , do you remember what the entree items were that are available on the "new" French menu? The last time we ate at Chef's, it was only one option - the French onion soup, chicken, and creme brulee.

I can't find an updated menu anywhere, so you would just bless my heart if you could remember those entrees.

TIA!

If it has a ** next to it, I am pretty sure they were included but not 100%. Basically it had the less expensive entree's and let you choose to have a soup. If paying OOP the menu was priced at 37.00. That's the best I can remember. I hope that helps. You could however order anything you wanted for an Entree but would have to pay OOP for the soups.

Starter

Lobster Bisque or French Onion Soup

Entree

1/2 Chicken
Gratin de Macaroni
Short Ribs**
Salmon**

Deserts

Lemon Tart
Profiteroles au Chocolat
Creme Brulee

Many thanks! Chefs is one spot where we were planning to pay OOP for apps, but I think I might manage nicely with what's offered here.

Great reviews, and I love how Disney went above and beyond to make your experience safe and enjoyable!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Don't apologise for the lack of pics, your reviews are very detailed and speak for themselves :thumbsup2

Well, the weather has changed here and now it is cold, which, we felt would be the perfect time for a day at AK. We had an ADR at 5:00 for Spoodles which we planned as an OOP treat but after seeing MK closed to capacity and the crowds, plus we overslept, we decided to see if we could get an ADR at Yak and Yeti an stay the day at AK. We got a 5:00 ADR and off we went.

The park was so packed it was breathing room only :scared: but thinned out after the parade. I am thankful it wasn't hot. I was looking forward to a nice sit down dinner and after having eaten my lunch at the counter service at Yak and Yeti I was even more exicted.

I got the Shrimp Lo Mein, Diet Coke and Mango Pie for 1 cs credit. The portion was HUGE and filled with well cooked tasty shrimp.. it was a nice treat for a CS meal. The egg roll was Eh.. just an egg roll. My Kids ordered a hamburger and chicken combo with a cookie. DH didn't want anything. The kids said the food was .. OK. The Fries here are GREAT, second only to Chef's..

OK.. on to dinner..

We walked up at 5:00 to some confusion at the check in. This place is not very organized in terms of check in as other places had been. We waited 15 minutes to be seated. We had to take an elevator to the second floor where we were placed into a dining room off the main hallway with a few other tables and large windows. It was quite nice and cozy. It took a long time for our server to come to our table and acknowledge us.. that was ok ,it gave me time to prepare for the hostile.... What do want to drink?!?! before you butt ever hits the seat thing.. I chose a Cocktail, DH a large local beer. We were doing this OOP so we didn't go overboard on meals. DD12 was not hungry and we allowed DD7 to share our meals and ordered her only Fries.

It took forever for him to bring our drinks (10+minutes). Finally we could order around 6:00. I wanted to try the Fried Green Beans. No one else wanted a Starter.

So my meal was. Fried Green Beans and Beef With Broccoli Stir Fry.
DD12 got Chicken Fried rice
DS10 got the Honey Chicken and Fried Rice
DD7 got Fries and shared food
DH got the Tamirind Chicken (not sure of spelling)

The beans were such a nice surprise. Unlike normal fried veggies these were light crispy and out of this world interesting.. the sauce was slightly tangy with a sweet kick, think Duck Sauce with Zest. DD12 liked these so much she ate 1/2 of the VERY large portion they served me. I would go back just for these and it was a very large serving you could have with rice or another side and have a meal!

DH said his chicken was very good, but, he didn't feel it was 'great'. He also didn't like the Ethnic place used 'American' servers as it took away from the vibe.. LOL.. he liked that in France they were French.. etc.. made you feel removed from the parks and off into another land.. His portion was nice sized and well prepared.

DS10 said his chicken was strange. I tasted it and it was. I love honey chicken but had to agree this was not what we were used to. It was more ethnically seasoned then he would have liked , but , he said it was ok once you started aclimating to it.. LOL.. but he would not order it again. I can't describe the spices on this but if you want to know if you would like it first, I recommend trying the counter service for an idea of the style of food.

My Stir-Fry was ok too.. nothing special, tasty, typcial chinese style you can get in most chinese restraunts. A good value though by price and a nice portion with more than an ample serving of broccoli, a nice service of Rice too (you get choice of White, Brown or Fried Rice to go with it)

DD12 got full on the beans, liked her rice alot , said it was like what she expected.

We did not order Deserts, but , did have coffee, which was good.

So with my rating system:

Service : 5 , we had long waits for things, items were brought out by other servers/staff, felt rushed when we did get our food.

Food: 6, the food was hot, well prepared and presented, but average if you are used to this style of food. The beans get a 10 and I saw a lot of very nice food pass by that I would come back for (shrimp and steak, ribs) but I would not order my meal again for a dinner as I could get that type of food anywhere, I would have splurged and went for the ribs like I intended (they were a little more expensive and I already splurged on a 9.00 cocktail and the appetizer)

Ambience: 7 it was a neat cool place, I liked the quiet dining room .

Value: 8 Nice sized portions for the price, lots of lower priced items on the menu to choose from (by Disney Standards).

So we *liked* our meal , we just didn't *love* it so much to make it a must go. I would definantly book it if you were spending the day in the park and wanted to have a sit down meal. I would not plan to travel here just for that meal. But it was overall a good meal and value for Disney.
