June 8, 2011 – Mediterranean

I am Rosew with two granddaughters 13 and 16 and am looking for a group to go on tours to the four ports in Italy. I looked at limo and 15 would get a great deal.

Wendy, thanks! We were planning on doing Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo on our own so would love input from you!! Looks like the train runs along the coast and all these cities are off this train? Looking forward to chatting with you re. this!! Will keep you posted on the tours!

Villefranche is located between Nice and Monaco and the trains and buses are very easy to use (as long as you know which train station you are leaving from:rotfl:). Besides Monaco, there are two small villages that are amazing; Eze and St. Paul de Vence. Eze is between Villefrance and Monaco. St. Paul is above Nice and is a very charming town. I am not a huge fan of Cannes, but all of this is just a personal opinion and others might feel differently. I will try and post some pictures later.

Wendy, Is it possible/easy to visit Monte Carlo/Monaco/Eze and Nice in a day just using public transportation? I know from Villefranche they're opposite directions.

It depends on how long you want to spend in each place. Since we don't have to be on the ship until 7:00, you could spend the first half of the day in Monaco, a couple of hours at Eze and the rest in Nice. The only thing that I am not 100% sure of is Nice. The train station is a little ways from the beach but they have taxis and the bus. I have never used a bus in Nice but I am assuming that it is as easy as the one I used between Monaco and Eze. Another option in this area is to rent a car. Driving is easy and allows some flexibility. Hope that helps.

Well, I just found out you can't bring honey into Canada. Bah...there goes my Corsican honey idea. Oh well.

Bummer! Why is that?

Either the Canadian government is trying to protect our bees from disease or they're trying to protect our honey industry. :confused3

Whatever the reason, there goes a perfectly tasty gift for friends. :sad1:

We have just selected this cruise and the ABD add on and we are so excited as this is our first Med cruise. We love DCL and this is our fourth cruise. Anyone doing the ABD add on?

Welcome! :welcome: It is our first med cruise as well but there are many who have been before and are so helpful with advice. Enjoy the planning!

We are getting into planning our shore excursions (finally) and are going with Simply Amalfi (#1 rated on Tripadvisor) for the stop in Naples. We are a party of 3 (myself, DH, and DS, age 7). My younger son, age 3, might also be joining us for this tour. We were looking to see if there would be another party of 3-4 that would like to join us. We are an active family and we were looking for the same to share our van with us. I will send you info on the tour if you are interested. It is going to be an amazing day!!

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having fun planning. :goodvibes
I thought you might like to check out a blog I follow. This family did our cruise (well the 11 night) last April. She has some awesoe pics and great info. I've emailed her a couple of times and she gave me references for several tour groups. We are using her recommendations in Malta & Rome.

Just wondering... how many of you guys are planning on doing a FE exchange?

Just found this forum. We have booked this cruise for 8th June and i'm so excited i'm actually not sleeping because of it!!! We have never cruised before and have a little girl who will be a month off turning3. Can anyone give me some reassurance that there will be enough to do for her, she'll be ok in kids club (they are allowing her even though she hasn't turned 3 yet). The cruise was pretty pricey so we haven't a fortune to spend on excursions... which ones do you think we can do ourselves/which are the best ports to book Disney excursions?

Thanks guys - look forward to meeting with you soon!

Welcome! We will be traveling with a 3 year old DD as well.
We took her on a 4 night Bahama cruise at 2 and a half and she loved it. At 2 and a half she couldn't go in the kids clubs yet but she had just mastered the potty so she was able to swim and she was used to her big girl bed at home so she slept well on the sleeper-sofa. She loved the character interaction and watching the stage shows. Overall it was a great experience.

This time we will put her in the kids club some but mainly so that she can hang out with other kids. We plan to bring her on all of our excursions.

Speaking of shore excursions are our plans so far:
Malta - private tour
Palmero - probably on our own
Naples - Disney tour Pompeii and Sorrento
Rome - private tour
Florence - on our own - train ride to Pisa & Florence
Corsica - on our own
Villefranche - on our own
