Jumping January Exercise Challenge

478/1000

Wow, MRS AR, nice job! Way to go on a half followed by a full - so impressive!

Vegas - hang in there! Some days it's harder than others, but keep your goal in front of you. Are you doing any PT for the knee/ankle injuries? The therapist may have some good training advice for you. Google 'half marathon training plans for beginners' and you'll get some valuable info. For my first half, I kind of meshed two different plans to fit my schedule. Also, it was helpful to print it out, post it on my bathroom mirror and highlight each day that I did the training. When I missed a day, I just picked up on the next day. You can do it!!!!:banana::banana::banana:

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hi! Thanks so much for that! Great idea on posting workout on bathrm mirror. I've done something like that for work goals & it worked!:yay: Must try it!
Just curious, does your name mean "2 Aggies in Texas"? As in Texas A & M?
Wondering, because our son just got accepted @ TAMU over the holidays.

Oops, forgot to add 40 min walking Thursday night.

Now 230/800

I'm less than 1/3 towards my goal. Got to "literally" step it up!:cool1:

Adding 60 min walking and gym the past few days. I have a 1/2 tomorrow so I've been trying to recover after last weekend. Thanks for the kind words 2TxAgs. I didn't hit my goal for the full but I took 30 min off last years full. Besides that makes more workout minutes here. I expect tomorrow's half to be a little slower, but it is a race I've been wanting to run so I'm looking for a fun time.

340/620.

Broke a major barrier today, I did some very, very careful jumping. Jumping is something that's incredibly scary for me because of major issues with my left knee. Most of those have been solved by my last surgery almost 5 years ago, but there is still fear and the knee itself is not as strong as the other one, so yeah scary.

After doing 45 minutes of one of Leslie's Walking DVDs, got the wife to join me on a 5 mile walk today. Very proud of her for finishing, even if it did take us 2 hours (I tried to slow myself down to keep a steady pace with her, it was her first time walking a distance like that)

Total steps today 25,500

Now up to 695/1500!

Let me just say CONGRATULATIONS! I know exactly, and I mean, exactly how you are feeling. I suffered through a very long knee and leg injury and recovery over the last 5 1/2 years and I know first hand the psychological fear component. I had gone through so much pain that i literally had to practice not just the physical movement but the part of initiating certain movements because there was so much fear and pain anticipated. The day I crossed the finish line of my first half was such a personal victory for me. It took me a year and a half of building up running from literally running 3 steps while supporting myself on the treadmill handles to where I am today. Even now I catch myself being afraid of doing certain exercises because my leg is still weaker. (Mostly things like one legged squats, or side lunges on my weak side). Keep at it though, I'm a firm believer that strengthening the knee and quad and leg does wonders for recovery from many knee issues. Just listen to your body, but don't give up! And don't be afraid to modify anything to get to where you need to be. I used to do a lot of jumping while supporting myself on the bathroom or kitchen counter or a dresser. Practicing landing is the key.

WHOOHOO!

I did 30 min of yoga yesterday but I can't remember my total so ill update that after my workout today. Happy Sunday everyone!

530/500

Adding 50 minutes of strength training yesterday. Plus 30 minutes of HIIT and 10 minutes of abs today.

I underestimated what my goal should be this month. I'm going to keep going though even though I hit goal already.

Has anyone here ever tried the 3-day Refresh program by Beachbody? I've been curious about if for some time, and I finally decided to try it. I've tried other 3-day programs of theirs in the past to get my eating in check and had great results, plus any weight I lost through those stayed off as well. Partly due to eating correctly afterwards, but I did expect to gain a pound or so back but that didn't happen. I've done the Shakeology 3-day cleanse, and also the 21-Day Fix 3-day quick fix. The Shakeology one, I did it a couple of years ago. 3 Shakeology shakes a day plus fruit as well, and then a huge salad for dinner with 4 ounces of either chicken or fish and oil and vinegar. I did the 3-day quick fix this past summer right after we came home from our WDW trip because I ate so horribly on that trip (although I enjoyed every second of it!). That one has you eating 6 times a day, about every 2 hours. I love Shakeology but it's so darn expensive that I don't buy it often at all.

For the 3-day refresh, it came with one Shakeology packet per day (for breakfast, and you also eat fruit along with it). Then mid-morning, there is this fiber drink called Fiber Sweep which is mixed with water...sounds like Metamucil but also has flax and chia seeds in it along with the psyllium. Lunch is this other shake it comes with called Vanilla Fresh, plus one vegetable, one healthy fat and one fruit. Afternoon snack is one vegetable and one healthy fat. There are dinner recipes, which are vegetables along with healthy fats, plus you get the option of having one cup of vegetable broth with dinner, and you have another Vanilla Fresh shake. The Vanilla Fresh shake is equivalent to about 3 ounces of meat or chicken, as far as protein content. Throughout the day, the minimum water intake is 64 ounces but the program recommends that you divide your body weight by 2 and then drink that amount of ounces of water per day.

The program recommends that people replace coffee with green tea, but I tried that with the Shakeology cleanse and I cannot give up my coffee, especially when going to work. The program allows black coffee with stevia added but I will need to "tweak" it a little and add some unsweetened almond milk because I can't drink black coffee...my stomach cannot take it and I, not about to suffer for three days with intense heartburn.

So I'm starting the 3-day Refresh on Tuesday. I always weigh myself on Friday mornings, so this fits right in. I also chose to do this Tuesday through Thursday because I would never last on the weekend with going out and social occasions, plus Tuesdays and Thursdays are my easiest days at work when I teach the least amount of classes. It says you can exercise on the program but recommends moderate or light. I will just go by how I feel but I'm taking Tuesday as a recovery day anyway so that fits right in.

Wish me luck everyone! It will be a long 3 days but I can do this!

That's fabulous! Good for you on the Shakeology. I can't just do shakes I need food to chew. This board is a great motivater.:grouphug:

I added 56 minutes today. 30 on the bike and 26 strength and cardio workout.

Thank you Figment1990 :) It gives such a kick to be able to do it even if it's only a tiny bit in the air because in my mind jumps=pain and you are right that it's such a big psychological thing to get past.

Moved on to level 3 of Jillian's 30 day shred dvd and got some more jumping in, which gave such an adrenaline kick that I barely noticed that the cardio I was doing was pretty hard! I'm feeling so good and strong right now that I could move on to her longer dvd's but am going to finish the 30 days until I give that a try.

380/620 and appear to have lost 10 pounds.

Warning sad story ahead:

Weird couple of days. One of our older co-workers didn't show up for work on Friday so another co-worker went to check on her, broke into her house through a window and found her on her passed away on the floor. Things like that, really make you think. We're all grateful for the 4-day weekend so we have a few days to process before heading back to campus.

I didn't do much for a couple of days but got in 52 minutes today.

16 minutes friday
20 minutes today

no exercise yesterday broke my 3+ week streak of 10+ minutes per day. Oh well, I'm starting over today.
