January 2008 Code Watch

We will be there from the 3rd - 9th for Mardi Gras!! It will hopefully be very low crowds!!! So, ummm where is this pre-party!!! LOL ;)
Where are you staying? We are at AKL or the Poly -- haven't decided just yet!! See ya there!

Mardi Gras is very early this year- Feb 5. The crowds SHOULD be low/moderate. I went for Mardi gras 2005 and it coincided with Daytona 500 (it doesn't this year, it's the 17th) and the crowds were moderate-we were expecting low. It was mostly New Orleans area people-we even had a pre -Disney party for all the friends we knew were going! But I can say the lines were not bad at all and we are going again next year at Mardi Gras. And we are having our pre-WDW party again! It is also value season and codes should come out for dates up until around Valentines.

We have a Feb 2008 code watch at:

where you can get more info.

so the daytona 500 is in Jan or feb?
I am confused. I think I am changing my vacation to the end of Jan....seems like too much is going on the first few weeks of feb, and I like to have the park to myself...well, myself, and only a few thousand people iinstead of 50,000 people!! :lmao:

Well, for all of us January '08 travelers, it appears that if you planned on doing DDP the tip will no longer be included as of 1/1/08 :sad2: Also, it was posted that the price may also increase $40-45 adult and $20-25 child. This really is no longer cost effective :confused3

Let's hope for some other wonderful code to come out for January :goodvibes

I have heard this rumor before, but wanted to know where you heard it from? We were never sure we were going to do the ddp, if this happens we for sure will not. It may still work for others, but we were not sure about the ddp before this rumor. Tiffany

There is a large thread on this board under "Disney Dining" category. Apparently a server posted this info. One thing for sure is that whatever this contract negotions were for it did in fact pass. There are stories about it on Orlando Sentinal site and other FL news sites. The specifics, however, are not confirmed. We'll have to just wait and see what has officially changed.

Thanks! We were really on the fence and this really did it for us. I know some will say its still will save. But for us it may not. SO thanks! Let's wait and see what the final word will be! I assume this will come out before disney releases package prices for 2008. I would be bummed if I bought one then they took tips out of the deal! :)

Yes, I subscribed too. Thanks to the person who kindly described what this was all about for us newbies! We're going down January 7-14. I'm doing the 1/2 and my husband is doing the Goofy. Since we're taking my daughter and grandaughter down for their first ever trip, any extra savings will be greatly appreciated!

I just booked 5 rooms for January 2008 and my AAA agent said that disney told her that 2008 rates and packages were not probaly going to be out until August.... It now is starting to seem real. Now I can't wait to start making ADR's next month

Wondering why the servers would "shoot themselves in the foot" - so to speak! Under the current plan, they are *guaranteed* 18%. My college-student DD has been working as a server for 5 years and would be THRILLED if she averaged 18% per shift. :confused3

It's my understanding that the servers were against it and that it was management that put it on the table and the union as a whole (all the CMs, not just servers) ok'd it as part of the negotiations for other things they wanted :confused3 At this point it is just rumors so we will have to wait and see what is finally published.

After living together for more than 10 years, we are finally going to make it legal on 12/29 and are heading straight to Disney. We booked concierge at the CR for 12/30 and 12/03. I would love to stay at the CR longer but can't unless we get a code. So not sure where we will be staying the rest of the time we are there. Come on codes and I am hoping for a MK view!!!!

I believe that the servers WANT the tip to stay. Disney is the one that is taking that out of their contracts. This will more than likely hurt the servers. Even if people opt out of the DDP, that may mean fewer tables each night = fewer tips too.

But...until I hear that this is indeed going to happen, I am not going to worry about it. I will just plan the same for 2008 as I did for 2007.

I am new to this thread and the whole code/discount thing. I have learned a lot from this board but I am still not getting the whole thing (I must have a mental block on it :goodvibes ). I am looking to go in January and if we could get a discount that would make the trip definite.

I have AAA - should I book a room-only ressie now? I plan to do MYW plus dining. If a package comes out that beats the AAA package will I have to cancel the room ressie and book a whole new reservation?

What is this 40% discount - I would love that!

What kind of package usually comes out for Disney Visa members (I have a Disney VISA)?

Ok I know these questions have probably been answered before but if someone could help a dummy like me it would be much appreciated!

I've booked a room at Coronad Springs from 1/18 to 1/25. They told me to inquire in August about a AAA discount since they will be updating the rates for 2008.

Hi,

Please excuse my ignorance, What are you subscribing to??
I am very new to this and I am from Sydney, Aus
I would like to book online and I know the rates aren't out yet for Jan 2008 but would like to book ASAP
