jan 2nd crowds?

I have a friend and her husband planning a day at the Magic Kingdom on January 2nd with two small children. They are staying off-site as there are no moderate rooms available on-site.

Will there still be large crowds from new year's? What can I tell them to expect as far as lines, park admittance, etc.?

January 2 will likely be quite crowded this year, mostly because that day is a Friday, and many people who would normally start heading home after New Year's Day will add on the weekend and travel on Sunday instead.

I would advise your friends to get to the park early and have a definite touring plan. Be prepared for long lines for most attractions, and be sure they know what they're willing to stand in line for! (There's nothing worse than standing in line for 70 minutes for something, only to discover you really didn't want to go on that in the first place!) They'll also want to be sure to have plenty of snacks for the kids to eat, since fast food lines will be long as well, and they may end up eating at non-traditional times.

I've been at WDW on 1/2 in 2001 and 2002. Both years had very low crowds. I'll always remember one CM (who obviously was not pleased with the antics of the NYEers) who said that the guests were probably completely out of money so they had to go home right away after NYE. She claimed they must have blown it all on partying NYE.

January 2 this year is on a Friday so I think it will be crowded from those leftover from New Year's and not wanting to leave before the weekend. That includes my family of 6 who will be staying into the weekend. I was there last year too and it was crowded.

My guess: Crowds start thinning out 1/4...really thin on 1/5
