Interesting Update

Interesting. I do hope she's OK.

While I do also pray that she is still alive and well, sometimes transactions don't appear on your credit card until months after they are made. I made some purchases while in the US a couple of years ago, and some took 2-6 months to show on my credit card statement.

our family was on our first disney cruise on the wonder when rebecca disappeared. as a passenger, i appreciated how disney handled it on our end,but could never quite wrap my head around what might have happened. i'd love an ending that includes her being alive but it won't be a simple answer even then... i too have had her and her family in my prayers, thank you for posting an update, i've posted the link on our cruise meet thread.

Wow, I really hope that isn't the case...

well they should be able to find out where the purchase was made so that may help

I say send in Seal Team 6 to find her.

One can be assured that whatever bank issued the card has already had its investigatory (read: fraud control) unit assessing the charge activity. The pros in that field know the classic patterns of use for lost or stolen cards and should be able to pretty quickly determine if Rebecca's card was simply being used by someone else or if the activity suggests the card may actually still be in her possession.

If the use appears to be fraudulent, the issue becomes how smart the fraudster was. Unfortunately, the more seasoned ones know how to cover their tracks (use a card only for a short period in multiple locations, then ditch it).

Also, the articles makes it sound as if investigators have already excluded any charges with posting dates that were prior to her disappearance; the focus here uis definitely on charges that were made after it (which the article implied were "recently.")

I'm following her story all the time.
I wish there was some good news with the credit card charges, but what are the chances that she is somewhere using it?

Still I'm hoping for the best for her and her family.

Not to be argumentative, and I definately do not want to put on a "how to use stolen credit card clinic" but your assertion on how experienced "fraudsters" work is not on point with current identity theft issues.

As an investigator I have dealt with hundreds of identity theft cases where credit cards, and other mediums, were used by "criminals." Experienced criminals know which sites have neither of the following: 1. Video coverage of the points of sale. 2. Stores which mandate photo identification to authroize purchases. Criminals know how and when to use a card and will use it until it is cut off. They NEVER discard a credit card that could have any balance available to them.

Given the jurisdictions involved, the cards all have tracers on them. Immediate notifications to law enforcement when a charge hits. Within seconds it is clear if it is a recent charge or an older charge posting against the account.

The single most important issue in this case is was she or was she not on board when they left their last port. If she was, likely a stolen card. If she was not, real issue of security protocols for the cruise line. Should be interesting to watch unfold.

That's very interesting information! :thumbsup2

Do we know whether she was on the ship when it left port?! :confused3
