Interesting Update

I was looking at the site linked in the previous post, and saw something that didn't seem familar to me (in bold below). There was this statement on one of the pages

"Rebecca returned to America, to go on the Disney Wonder ship, which was sailing from LA to Mexico. She completed one trip visiting all ports along the Mexican Rivera and sailing the Panama Canal.

The Cruise was affected by the Japanese tsunami, resulting in the ship being stuck at sea for roughly two days longer than scheduled due to not being able to reach port due to the waves. It was on the second trip that Rebecca went missing."

I know I've been busy at work, but I don't recall the ship being delayed 2 days due to the tsunami. I was wondering if that really happened, or if it's the 2nt cruise to nowhere they're thinking of.

I saw the same thing. It is obviously misinformation. Wasn't the earthquake a couple of weeks before she went missing?

I might be able to clarify....

We were on Rebeccas last full sailing. March 13th -20th.
We reached port of LA on Sunday March 20th and Rebecca went missing on the following Tuesday, March 22.( or was it the Monday?)

The cruise right before us was effected by the storm. The storm hit on Friday march 11th, and that was a scheduled Cabo day. The ship had to miss docking in Cabo, and stayed out at sea. So Thursday at sea, Friday at sea, Saturday at sea, and back to port on Sunday. Then our sailing, then the sailing she went missing.

Such a sad story. Still praying she is ok.

Thanks for the clarification! I was thinking the 2nt to nowhere cruise was a month or two before she went missing, so that didn't seem to fit their timeline.

The family of the British Disney cruise ship worker who went missing a month ago have been given fresh hope of finding her alive after her bank account appears to have been used.

Rebecca Coriam mysteriously vanished from the Disney Wonder less than 24 hours after it sailed out of Los Angeles towards the Mexican Riviera in March.

Her disappearance has left police and family dumbfounded, with neither a body or evidence of foul play being uncovered.

But last week her mother Anne received an email from her daughter's bank reporting 'financial activity' on her account in the weeks since.

Rebecca's father Mike told the Daily Mail: 'This could be a very significant development. The fact that her credit card's been used could only mean someone has stolen it or she's still alive.

'We've never believed she simply disappeared overboard and drowned. I have always felt she is still alive. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that she is out there somewhere.'

Mr Coriam said he was keeping the exact details of the financial activity confidential to avoid hampering police enquiries.

Rebecca's disappearance has been investigated by the police in the Bahamas, where the Disney Wonder is registered.

But after a search of the vessel, officers found no evidence of foul play and concluded their inquiries.

The family has voiced their fear that there were not enough resources committed to solving the mystery of their daughter's disappearance, and at the time a spokesman said: 'It is a possibility she went overboard.'

But Rebecca's uncle John Jennings said: 'We've always believed there is more to Becky's disappearance than just falling overboard.'

Rebecca's father said he had met a female friend of his daughter in America who'd received a phone call from her shortly before she vanished: 'She said she seemed fine. Everyone we spoke to on the boat is as mystified as we are about what happened to her.'

I wonder if she was even on the ship or if she missed the departure and no one noticed? I would think if that was the case, she would have contacted family or Disney in the meantime, unless something bad happened to her to prevent her from making the ship. But I would think by now they would have vetted all that out and determined if she was or wasnt on the ship to begin with.

It didn't seem like she was running away, so not calling someone, if she was alive, seems out of character for a young girl.

Thanks for sharing. It is certainly a light at the end of the tunnel for her family. Hopefully she will be found soon enough.

I hadn't heard this part of the story yet, although it was BEFORE the girl disappeared, so it's not THAT big of a deal, I guess.

I do hope that they find her and that she is safe.

During the days after her disappearance, I remembered reading there was video footage of Rebecca on board talking on a phone and then a male crew member walked with her out of camera range.

The card activity story has now been out for weeks with no updates whatsoever. If investigators had found any evidence that the activity was stemming from purchases actually being made by Rebecca, that wouldn't be the case (that news would have spread like wildfire.

The fact no such news has appeared unfortunately suggests the card activity is not developing as a warm lead to anything other than possible fraudulent use.

What I don't understand is the wording. "Financial activity" instead of "attempt to use" her bank cards seems odd, because in cases like they authorities tell family members to have the card accounts closed. Wonder why that didn't happen?

If I am not mistaken, the article originated in the UK. It could simply be the way that they phrased it. Or someone knows something, and doesnt want the whole world to know, until its time. Which is why the family is tight lipped about where and when and where the issue occured.

It may be as simple as she had a bill set up for automatic payment to a credit card and the next payment was posted.

I would think they'd want to keep all accounts open. Wouldn't that be a good way to find her or someone who possibly took her?

Unfortunately I'm afraid one of the below scenarios is the likely explanation:

While I do also pray that she is still alive and well, sometimes transactions don't appear on your credit card until months after they are made. I made some purchases while in the US a couple of years ago, and some took 2-6 months to show on my credit card statement.

My thoughts are with her family. I can't even imagine the pain they must be feeling.

The attempt to use the card would be trackable just the same on a suspended or closed account with with one that is open. Difference is, with the account closed, you can remove funds. That's why I was questioning the wording, was money removed or a charge made, or was an attempt made to remove money or make a charge.
The family has an absolute right to privacy, so I wonder if there are things they know that have not been made public.

Probably. But if she was found, dead or alive, that would have made the news either way.

Chances are, she's not alive. Hopefully, it was not foul play. At this point, I think that's ALL we can hope for. Chances of her still being alive are slim to none, IMO.
