How upset would you be over this?

Flame away, but if my 9 year old asked me that question directly i would NOT lie to her about.

Our son came to us about 6 weeks ago with that question, since his friend and him "did the math" (his term) and didn't see how it was possible.

Given that he is 9, we didn't want to lie to him and then turn around in a year or 2 and tell the 'truth'

I might 'lie' to a 5 year old, but by the time they are 9, I wouldn't keep it going if asked directly.

I'm in this camp. My DD is also 9. I'm actually shocked that she hasn't asked yet. I was at a school function with about 8 other mothers last month and someone asked at what age do you tell them the truth. Someone said between 5th and 6th grade. That seems really old to me to still be believing.

And we were on the DCL for DD's 9th birthday and she didn't want to wait for characters. Her answer was "Mom, there are so many little kids that still believe. Why should I take a spot in line when they will enjoy it more." That being said, she had never seen Jiminy Cricket and he was on the boat and she waited in line for Formal Minnie and Jack Sparrow. She loved the characters that she hadn't seen before. Regular Cinderella and Snow White weren't important to her as she had seen many of them before.

I'd be furious if that happened! It's your job, not the libraians, to tell the kid about that kind of stuff. She should've minded her own buisness. I'm sorry that happened to your kid.
