Hilton Head lovers....

ahh so good to see this thread still alive and kicking! Once again we are booked for a week in July, right after the 4th... Cant wait!

Of all our DVC vacations I think this one is our favorite. We just cant wait to go back!

Hi everyone, I am jumping in here.. I am staying at HHI next month, our first visit.. I am expecting alot to be closed for the winter, but mostly looking to relax.. and hoping for a lil' warmer weather than new england in Feb. LOL

It is a girls trip for us - me, dd (6) and my mom.. We are going Feb 16-22, anyone going to be there during that time?? We are driving down from RI. Plane fares were crazy - school vacation week. So, we'll take 2 days to drive and then also spend a day or two driving to Savannah GA from HHI.

We are taking two days to drive down from New York during the Passover/Easter school vacation. Will also spend a day in Savannah.

Does anyone know when the HHI pools are closed for maintenance?

Hi everyone! We pop over to Hilton Head frequently just because it is a relatively short drive from Atlanta. We have been in January/February. The weather will be hit/miss. The ocean will of course be cold, but often it is warm enough to swim in the heated pools. It will probably be nice for beach walking, biking, just bring jackets and sweatshirts! While some restaurants and businesses do take a break in the Winter, you will find plenty that are open year round. There are a good number of year round residents on Hilton Head, and it is commercial enough that they do enjoy some year-round tourism.

Enjoy your trip!

We are going to HHI Disney Resort for the first time this weekend. I've been to HHI many times but have never stayed at the Disney Resort. So if anyone has any questions about what's going on there this time of year, post away and I'll respond when we return Sunday. Does anyone have any last minute suggestions for me. We are taking my 4 y.o. and 2 y.o. sons.

Hi, everybody! I'm sitting in the Beach Pool area as I type -- there is wireless in the Surfmen's Station.

The weather is changing -- we have had lovely weather (mid-70's and sunny), but the weather front is bringing a chance of rain and lowering the temp's to mid 60's at the moment.

The main pool at the resort is down for rehab, so the walk over to the mercantile is a bit long from our location in building 19.
(We have a lovely 2 bedroom, 1923. Our reservation was for a 1 bedroom, but we received a free upgrade when we arrived!! :cool1: :cool1: )

There is a lot of painting and replacing of wood railings around the mercantile, and community hall is getting a new coat of paint outside, too.

They are also painting the far side of the lodge and possibly one of the buildings over that way; it's hard to see, since there is scaffolding in place.

As soon as the main pool rehab is done, the Beach pool will close in order to have the pool/deck surface cleaned (due to calcium deposits) and also to replace the tile border on the pool itself.

I also understand that sometime in the next year/year and a half, there will be a hot tub going in at the Beach Pool -- in the center area which overlooks the ocean.

Ok, time for us to go -- our time here is done unfortunately. HH has been lovely and we can't wait to come back again.:flower3:
Have fun!

ksp - Thanks so much for the "live" update! Hopefully the weather will stay decent til we are there next month..

DH has some leftover vacation time he has to use up, so I called and got a last minute 2 bedroom at Hilton Head with a friend and her 8 year old daughter joining us for a long weekend starting this Thursday. Looking forward to some beach walks, seafood and naps for us!
This is so unlike my pre-planning self with our Disney trips- we have no plans at all!

Hi.
New DVC owner here (as of yesterday) and this thread has made me want to get to HH even more:cool1:

Looks like I may be too late for April (Easter Break), but I won't know for sure until I am 'in the system', which is hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks for all the info.

Hey Piper! Welcome to DVC!

HHI is my family's favorite vacation. So laid back... you can do as much or as little as you want as you can see from this thread!

I cant wait for July when we go back once again!

Hey Tarheel Tink -
We are going for the first time to HH this weekend too - my dh, and our dd's - ages 4 and 5. Have you been before? We are not sure what to do, but are open to lots of suggestions :)

Having never been there I think we will lazily explore and try out some restaurants, beach walks, naps. My friend will check out whatever children's program they may have and maybe have her DD try an activity. :)

Anyone know when the pools and/or beach house will be done? We are going first week of April. Thanks!

We will be there the first week in April and are curious about the pool rehab schedule.

We will be there the last week of March. It will be our first trip to Hilton Head. Thanks to everyone who contributed information on this thread.

Anyone know about the pool at both the resort and the beach? Still being refurbed?

After skimming this thread, I called the front desk at HHI to ask about their refurbishment schedule. Talked to a super-sweet CM named Connie who sounded just like my grandma! :goodvibes

Anyway, Connie said that the resort pool and spa have been completed and are open right now. The beach house is currently under rehab. It is scheduled to be closed through February 24th. The fishing pier will be closed until March 24th.

According to Connie, all refurbs have been going really well and pretty much running right on schedule. They're trying to get everything ship-shape in time for those of us heading to HHI for our spring break! :thumbsup2

HTH!

Hi! Just got home today from HHI!! The peir is NOT closed.. which is good news! It is being worked on.. but there is a sign up, that you can use it before 9am or after 5pm, which works out great for viewing sunrise/sets!!

The pool (main pool) is open, as well as the hot tub, we ended up with GREAT weather (mid 70's) during the last days of our trip, and the pool definately got use!! The waterslide was open as well.

The beach house was closed, but we still got to go over and walk on the beach and i took a pic of it anyway.. gotta say - didn't really bother me too much, we occupied ourselves enough with the regular pool, and it was still too cool to swim in the ocean for us anyhow... the pool is heated to 82 deg. though!

I will post more on our trip with some pics tomorrow!
