Help! Colonoscopy Prep

I had quite a few last year, last one this past January.

One suggestion I have not seen yet would be to use a straw. It helps the prep get further back into your throat and away from the taste buds.

Tucks were suggested for me instead of baby wipes. These helped after the procedure too when it was a bit sore.

My doc always stated absolutely NO alcohol for a week before the procedure, so it is best to double check with the doc.

I totally forgot about a straw! Really did help first time around. Thanks :)

Due to a history, I've had a colonoscopy every 2 years for the past decade.

Prep has always started at 6:00 pm the night before and it's always worked out just fine.

Clean as a whistle, as they say. And the first time I even found that crayon I ate in 4th grade.

A Crayon! :rotfl2:

While it's clear, you should ask your doctor if alcohol is okay during the prep...just to be safe.

I agree--ask the doc, but here's what my doc told me. He told me I could mix the powder with anything I wanted as long as it wasn't red. He actually said to me "you could mix it with vodka or beer but you might not want to consume that much.":faint: Yeah doc...I don't think I want to consume gallons of alcohol on any occasion.

I found the whole experience a non-event except for being hungry. Next time I'm packing a sandwich to eat on the way home.:)

I was told no alcohol 48 hours prior.... But I may have forgotten that :scratchin

A roast beef dinner, will be eaten when I get home; I've already told the cook!

DH that is. . . ;)

I haven't read all the responses, but for those who will be taking the test soon, I recommend taking the "pill" prep if possible. I believe it's called Osco-Prep?? You take 4 pills every 15 minutes for 5 times plus a set of 4 pills in the morning - or something like that. So much better than all that drinking.

I also drank flavored water which is easier to get down than plain water. For hunger - diet jello, popsicles, broth, tea. Start eating "light" a day or two ahead of time and there is less stuff to be cleared out:)

I never make it home before eating. There is always a stop for a big ole breakfast.
