Handling money in the world?

I always get anxiety trying to decide how much cash to bring, should I buy Visa cash cards, should I put my credit card on the room card? It's just me and DH and I'm not sure how to do it. Any ideas are appreciated.

DH and I use our room charge as much as possible. Less to carry around and then you have a detailed statement at the end. Many of the food carts (popcorn etc) now even take the card so it's really handy.

We always use the room card option. Love it! Just one card to keep track of. We do bring a small amount of cash for Mickey Bars, etc.

What my husband and I do is bring $200 in cash each for indicentals/taxis/tipping and everything else we charge on our Disney Visa so we can earn points for our next trips. We have the cash in our savings account and when we get home and have a final total of what we charged I just send that to the Visa. We always bring our wallets with us and then just carry our rooms key card, AP and ID into the parks with us. If we are staying at a Disney Resort we put the card on the room and just carry that around. When we stay at the S/D we carry our Visa with us along with what I noted above.

We tie the room key to our CC and then each bring about $40 or so cash (each day) into the park for incidentals and just in case stuff. We usually end up never using our cash or very little of it. We prefer not carrying much cash or our actual CCs into the park. That way there is very little risk if anything is lost or stolen.

We also are big fans of using our cc (disney visa) with our room key. It is so convient and the detailed statement helps me budget expenses for souveniers, food, etc for the next year. We also keep the money in our accounts at home and just pay off the card when we get back. Great way to get a good start on Visa Disney Dollars for the next trip, too.
We don't carry much cash, b/c we found last year we ended up spending less than $50 the entire 2 weeks, mostly b/c we only used it at snack carts.

Credit cards have no interest neither, if you pay it off at end of each month - and you earn award points too

Between Discover and Disney Visa, we have close to $1000 in "free dollars" just from using the cards on every day purchases, like grocery, util bills, gas, eating out, etc. And all that is going to incidentals in our upcoming trip

Oh yeah, I am going to gain so much weight from all those Mickey bars.

Coming from Canada, I always never bring cash. If it gets stolen I have nothing then, compared to having travellers cheques. Last year was the best. We used the room keys and it was great. No credit cards or cash with us at all. At the end I got the bill and then added to the credit card. When I got home I paid it off in 1 month. Last time I brought cash for the way down the road and that's it.

I don't usually bring too much cash. I put most of what I plan on spending into my checking account and use my check card whenever I can. During our trip in March, I only brought about $250 or $300 in cash. We only used cash for snacks and small souvenir purchases. We had more than enough cash.

I never stress. I take $100 in travelers cheques for each day I am there, I bring a total of $50 cash, whatever Disney Dollars I have and my credit cards for any meal over $50.

We bring almost no cash...just enough for snacks or incidentals were you cannot use a credit card. We charge EVERTHING we possibly can to our room. You can get a print out from the front desk everyday if you like, so you can see how you are spending during your trip...it even will tell you who spent what if you have charging privilages enabled on multiple keys/tickets. Then, when you are ready to checkout, you can settle your bill however you want.

we've done pretty much any conceivable conglomeration and i think the one i like best is putting everything on a cc or debit card and adding it to your room key. you need very little cash that way and only have to keep track of one thing..that worked the best for us.

We bring cash to put in our Mousekeeping envelopes. Usually, I make the envelopes up before I leave home -- complete with the money in them. In addition, I usually bring $200 and put everything else on our room key.

Do Disney Dollars work the same as cash in the park? I'm thinking for things like Mickey Bars...as everything else will be on the room charge. I was just wondering if I need to change the Disney Dollars the kids have into regular cash...or if they could use those?!?!

yes, disney dollars can be used as cash anywhere in the parks or resorts. If you have any left over you can just exchange them for cash.

experienced difficulty using the room card, both for food and for fast pass at MK, Epcot, and MGM. make sure to have a back up plan(cash or other credit card). i witnessed one incident at MK where a woman only had her room card. after they swiped the card at least a dozen times and put the number in manually it finally worked.

someone mentioned that the room cards are not as thick as a credit card and the card reader doeds not read the card as it should. not sure if it is true, but i would carry alternative means of payment so you dont get stuck.

interestingly we never had a problem getting into the parks MK, AK, MGM, and Epcot with the cards. only at food & fastpass. not sure about any other retail.

I must be the only person out here that still uses cash. Up until last trip that is. Before that I always brought $2000 or $3000 in cash with me. Now I have totally switched to using our Disney CC for everything to earn the reward dollars. Before I would always have at least a few hundred on me all the time, now I'm lucky to have $20 or $30 on me. Times change. Anyway enough about me. I would deffinetly go with a CC or DC or room key if you're staying on property.
