Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Sandy: how are you keeping up with your training schedule? Everything going good?

Hi guys!

I am still here!! :)

I had a CRAZY weekend and was not hardly able to get on the DIS. :scared1: But I am back!

My plan for today is to walk on my treadmill when I get home. Not sure how long. I have been running fever for days. But I am going to get on there, because I have missed too many days!

Hi everyone! How did training go this weekend? I did a 3 mile run this morning and I'm planning on another one tomorrow.:goodvibes

And Dolce, no pictures:scared1: That is one of my favorite things about Disney runs. (Though I recognize they must be taken in moderation.);)

We'll convince Dolce to take pictures - and Maroo to take less!! *wink *nudge *wink

moderation - and figuring out how to carry a camera!!

My computer is dying - well the monitor is anyways - its getting blacker and denser - so this is probably my last post from here...

dh has a mac - but if he has meetings, and I also share with my soon-to-be 13 yr DD!! (Saturday is her big day!! They grow up so fast!!)

I am not planning on taking any pictures on the course! I am going to be doing good to finish the thing with bathroom breaks! :) And no bathroom breaks, either.

Not to overshare... but it affects my training.

I have an "urgent" sleep study tonight. I think they are afraid I am going to fall asleep in my car? :confused3 I don't think there is anything wrong with my sleeping. I think I have some sort of infection/mono...something...that is making me very tired. But my regular doctor wanted me to see a sleep dr and I saw her today and she wants me to get it done tonight (they had an opening and since I can't string words to make any sense without yawning - she figures I should take it instead of waiting.)

Anyway. This messes up my plans to walk. :headache: But may really help me in the long run.

**ETA: See...even this POST doesn't make any sense. And I am just going to leave it.

My goal for this marathon: get off the course ASAP! No pictures - unless there are chipmunks in them. ;) As I stated above - I got in 7 running miles on Saturday and then another 1 1/2 walking miles before I had to flee because a 5k race was about to start and I didn't want to be plowed over by all of the runners. I really didn't have any problems with my 7 miles ... except that I couldn't seem to make myself stop running in the end. Oh, I wanted to stop. Trust me, I did. I wasn't overdoing it so I wasn't burning out or anything but I was just tired of endless running. But if I'd been running at my normal pace of 9'10 miles (I forgot my watch that day) which I assume that I was, I'd been running non-stop for 1 hour and 4 minutes and my body simply didn't know how to stop after moving like that for so long. I think that I ran another 1/4 of a mile before I was finally able to slow myself down into a walk. I did 3 miles tonight. I have 5 on Wednesday, 3 on Thursday and 9 on Saturday.

We'll convince Dolce to take pictures - and Maroo to take less!! *wink *nudge *wink

I hope that your sleep study goes well! I'll pray that nothing is wrong. Obviously this is more important than walking on a treadmill tonight. Take care of yourself.

Hello Everyone!:wave2:
We are back home, got home late Saturday night and I am all caught up now.

Sandy
Way to go with the ADRs. I wasn't able to book all of mine at one time either. I have been doing them one a day. I got Turf Club, Tutto Italia and Kona's. Hope your CPU is okay.

Dolce
Way to go on getting the runs in. You are doing so awesome. Glad you won against Mother Nature. She was freezing my butt off in NY this past week.

Maroo
Gosh I hope you are okay. We have got to get you well girl.

Dismagiclover
Welcome! Glad to have you along and looking forward to meeting you.

Tim
Have you decided to join us yet for 2011?

I didn't get in much training at all while we were in NY. DD and I were joined at the hip and she just can't keep up with me. DH left today for a business trip, but I am hoping to get to the track tomorrow night. If it isn't raining (yeah, right) I am hoping to get at least an hour in.

One good note - I was at the doctor's today (checkup) and he was impressed with how I was doing. :woohoo: but he kept bringing up that I am older now. :confused3:scared1: Thank you :sad2: After the fourth "You are older now....." I finally reminded him that we have known each other for about 17 years now and he is still older than I am. :rotfl2:

Talk at everyone tomorrow. :upsidedow

Lisa GOOD Answer to the doctor!!

Dolce the brain of the computer is newer - dh is a computer geek - and parts is parts - he is looking for us a flat screen monitor ???

Maroo I'm thinking Vitamin D is an answer!! I watched Dr Oz - and he talked a lot about Vit D and definciencies - my doctor said hormone and vitamin levels change so frequently that its truly a "scam" and insurance pad to test people for low levels of most hormones and vitamin levels :confused3 Sleep Studies however, are very beneficial... Hope you get some answers

I didnt sleep well last night - I was just freakin out a bit - I had a bizarre nightmare - thought I'd remember it - but now its long forgotten...

DH is still struggling to prove his worth to Honeywell in hopes of gettting a job - or an extension of his current salary - they are trying to make him work more hours for less money - and trust me - we cant afford the latest cut in salary - I just feel stupidly grateful that everything for Jan '09 ( except for soueveniers and alcohol!! ) is PAID FOR!! (ok well truth is I havent all the money for tickets and Dining Plan, I convert money to Disney Dollars, and I'm about 2/3 way there!! :cool1: and Christmas is coming!!)

The screen is getting darker and smaller -so forgive typos -

Morning Sandy!

Isn't a great feeling to have the thing paid for already (mostly)?? I'm pretty happy with where I'm at with saving for TC3 trip too. Almost all is banked away safely where it won't disappear! :thumbsup2

Do hope the job remains stable and HW can keep him on-hate that that might mean extra hours, though!!!

DH was laid off from Job #xx - He is a software engineer, he is working as a consultant (its called contractor) so he's getting hours, but he's not an employee... and its not 40 hours per week... so we're still walking on water, believing in our faith!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=33940275#post33940275
Liz has started a support thread for Half Marathoners on the event/comp board - so come in post and get to know some WISH'ers - one poster Syko is a wheelchair competitor - and her sponser lets her give a bag of goodies for the first WISH'er over the finish line as well as the last WISHER!!

its always my thought that the last person works so much harder than the - well not the first wave - but the others!! 2 hours of course work vs 4 hours... (or whatever the numbers are!!)

I have something blocking me from working on training. Definate fear. Fear of failure, fear of a medical problem (there is none that I know of - its just a fear... like a panic attack...)

I'm real good at training and diets for 2 weeks - then I drop off... completely!! staring at that 17 min mile is really depressing me!

Sandy - No Fear.

I repeat.

No Fear

If you don't train than you'll be stuck doing 17 minute miles... FOREVER!

You don't want that - do you?

So, go and train! train! train! And then on January 9 you'll walk faster than 17 minute miles.

Oh, and may I suggest? You've admitted that in '08 you got caught up in the excitement at the beginning of the race and started out waaaay too fast. Practice to not start out so fast this time since what happened was that it burnt up all of your energy in '08. You want to reserve that energy and keep constant pace throughout the race so that you do not have to worry about being swept.

Has anyone heard from Maroo yet to find out how her test went last night?

Please let us know how it went! I agree, better to have it done... I think Sandy may have a point with the Vit D. It was a HUGE topic of conversation at my recent girls getaway. Of course we are all old..and deficient apparently! I've never even been tested but probably should.

Oh Sandy, I am sorry. I know all too well the feeling...nothing stupid about being grateful for good planning. You and your DH are in my prayers.

DITTO what Dolce said!

You can do this!!!!!!!

I wish I could. Well maybe I could.. what do you do with a 4 year old while you are running? I doubt I can tell my DD I am going to Disney without her!

Sandy...
You will not fail... you cannot fail!
You can do it!
Keep plugging away.. keep your training going!!!!!!!!

Tim - You can totally bring her! They offer babysitting services from people that are totally checked out and they can come real early and just sit with her while she sleeps. I am not sure if that would scare her? When she wakes up? But depending on how late she sleeps, she may sleep through you running and not need much in the way of childcare.

There also may be some of us who are not going to walk/run for some reason and could watch her. But I know we are crazy internet people. I do have refrences from other DISers...that's all I am saying! (But I plan to walk in 2011!)

No results from the sleep study and you guys are about the 6th people that told me I need to get some vitamins...so I am going to do that! Soon! I should know something in the next week or so about the sleep study. Funny how it is a big "emergency" and then I won't know for a week? :confused3

Meanwhile my car is dead. I think it needs a new alternator or something electrical is wrong with it that is draining my battery.

Sandy - Don't be afraid! Think of how WELL you did in 2008 with only some training! You can do even better this time...and make it!!! Even if you DID do 17 min miles...you start at the beg of the corral...you still make 3 hours and 45 minutes! So...go for it! Train! You can do it!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

:rolleyes1 I know a babysitter - certified by Red Cross - and she comes cheap too!!

You name an obstacle, and this group is going to brainstorm a way around it, over it, under, through it, or build a bridge and move it!! :goodvibes

... *sigh....

Who wouldn't want to watch Jul? Did you all see the new pix of her at POP hula-hooping? Too cute!

maroo- I do hope the car gets fixed soon without a huge bill for you! You have better things (well, at least things that are more fun) to spend your money on! Am anxious to hear the results of the sleep study!

You all are doing so great in your training!! I'm so proud of you.

You got that right!:thumbsup2 Everyone knows a way!

I think there is no saying no to this bunch.:sad2: This would be a huge commitment. HUMMMMM

I wouldn't have a problem with someone watching her but DW might.:confused3

What's going on with your PTR? I know from other threads you have been busy... but too busy to post on your own PTR??? You want me to go 'stir' things up over there?

I missed why you needed to be in a sleep study? Do you think you have sleep apnea?

You all are doing so great in your training!! I'm so proud of you.
I second this !!!!!!! Keep going!!!! January is only a few months away!!!!:goodvibes

That makes sense. If I was the Momma and the tables were turned (my hubby was on the forum)...I would say no, too! :thumbsup2 Unless I had spent some considerable time with that person.

What's going on with your PTR? I know from other threads you have been busy... but too busy to post on your own PTR??? You want me to go 'stir' things up over there?

PTR? What PTR? :rotfl: I actually sorta forgot about it. Figured I would be getting popcorn thrown around if anyone was missing it. :) We sorta moved the party over here and on the big Sept trip, ya know!

Besides...I TOTALLY lost the bet about not going in Jan-March. I am now going in January AND March. :rolleyes1 And Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec. Seriously. Maybe.

I missed why you needed to be in a sleep study? Do you think you have sleep apnea?

My dr thought it would be a good idea. And when I saw the sleep specialist, she seemed to think it was urgent. Maybe because I just have not slept well and am REALLY, REALLY tired.

I don't think I have sleep apnea, honestly. And I HOPE I don't...because I have seen those things people have to wear...and :sad2: ... just hoping I don't have to do that. I think it would even scare my DOG.

I actually think I am still run down from the swine flu. I have talked to several people around here that have had it and say it feels like mono. Shaking it has been hard. I am still running occasional fever and am just really run down. And I am doing too much, too.

Lauren is still really tired, too.

**** WARNING: RANT... **** :rotfl2:

And...just saying...Please watch your kids and this flu. I have been keeping up...because I find this "pandemic" stuff very interesting - like history unfolding - and I don't like what I am reading the past couple of days. Yesterday ALONE over 19 people died in the US from this flu. And that is the ones that were in the paper (past days we have been seeing 4 or 5). Several of those were kids. And some of those kids died in ONE day. Fine one day. In ICU the next and died. Several reports of people dying "in the waiting room" or "in the doctor's office" or "in the ambulance" on the way to get help.

The latest stats are that 46% of the people that have died have NO underlying condition.

We think the CDC is going to start releasing more info as soon as the vaccine gets here. Because before then it just stirs panic and no vaccine to quash the panic. But I think the information is vital to parents. To not brush it off as a "mild" flu and no big deal. For many kids it will be mild. For most. For nearly all. But for a very few, it is very serious. A DISer Mom wrote about her child on the Community board. And it was crazy fast how he was fine one day and admitted to the hospital the next. I hope he is ok.

Maroo ITA with your rant - I, nor my family "qualify" for the early vaccine - (no high risk! ) but I have to tell you in order for our family to get vaccinated its $100! and then I play the game of what to do with $100....

so my rant is - its a pandemic - offer it for FREE - and just see how long that line is to get the vaccine!! Health care? WE NEED HEALTH CARE for the welfare of this country!

(that's right, with a low employee in dh's company, we never had cheap health care - the deductables and copays were HIGH - now he's laid off, and we have nothing! But faith, and trust - )

Today GMA was talking to a mom who's heart stopped 4 times - H1N1 - she was pregnant at the time - (delivered by C-section to save the baby, all is well with baby!) BUT she kept saying "I never felt it was the flu" "It didnt feel like the flu" "I still cant believe the test came back that I had the flu"

At one point the doctors thought they would need to do a lung transplant! :scared1:

I've heard on a couple of other shows, the doctors are saying that this flu the fluid builds up ON THE OUTSIDE of the lungs - and doctors are "missing" that while listening for fluid IN the lungs!!

Maroo I just cant believe you are still running a fever! It does sound like mono with the sleep, and lingering fever! Just keep on keepin on - getting healthy!!

I do hope that everyone that can does get the vaccine - it will help stop the spread of this pandemic flu! If not for your health - think of the others you come in contact with -

My mother is recovering from the swine flu. She's a school teacher and picked it up at school from a kid coughing in her face. She was a high-risk so she went to the doctor early after showing some symptoms and they put her on tamiflu on Saturday. She's feeling a lot better today. She said that she's still feeling tired still but her energy is starting to return. She hasn’t had a temp since Sat or Sun – that went away pretty soon after she began taking the tamiflu. She still has a cough left and is going to the doctor this afternoon to see if they want to put her on an antibiotic for the cough or not. She plans to return to school tomorrow - she's feeling up to going back to work now. She called me a few minutes ago – was playing monopoly on her computer and had to tell me that she now “owns the world!”. I pray that she’s fully recovered. She said that she’s starting to feel fine.

As for the vaccine – I won’t get it. I don’t get even the regular flu vaccine. I watch too many people take the flu vaccine each year, then I watch as a different strain of the flu shows up than what the vaccine covers, then I watch as people who took the flu shot get the flu. I’ve never had the flu shot and I’ve never had the flu. I’m currently just being careful to run the opposite way if I hear someone cough. I try not to touch my face (eyes, mouth, nose) unless I just washed my hands. I wash my hands A LOT! I’m 30 years old so I’m in the 3rd risk group for the swine flu and I’m really never around kids (the first and second risk group)– and they are the primary group picking this thing up! I can’t WAIT for flu season to be over with! My only concern is that I will be on an airplane in two days. That is recycled air! Here's to praying that no one sick is on my flight (going or the return flight!)
