If this is true (I think there is probably a lot of hyperbole, but there certainly is a point), then I agree that it is also a problem that needs to be dealt with. Just not sure how.

Though it sounds selfish, the analogy I would draw is to squatting on one's property. Unless one defends oneself, one can lose their property. Whether you and others want to admit it or not, costs are being imposed on members by these things.
