Yip, we have Australian kelpis here.

Are your kelpis nuerotic, very needy and maybe a little crazy. Mine is. We have had her for almost 10 years and just found out what she is about 7 months ago. When we found out we looked up pictures and descriptions and she is pretty close. We always thought she was just a mutt.
I have only met the odd one at work so cant really say.
Missed the Kelpie part the first time I read this. Someone told us that our mix may have Kelpie in her because of her looks. We were told by the humane society that she was shepard mix. Of course we'll never know but we love her just the same. I'd love to see a pic of yours to see how much it looks like our Sandy.

Here is Sandy:

And her is my Cinder Ellie. Can't leave her out :goodvibes

very cute.
Wow lots of talks about peoples dogs. Personaly I don't like them. I think I was bitten by one at a very young age and that is what made me dislike them. I do like cats. Well just about done with packing. Does not look like my wish of warm weather will happen. Still a cold day at WDW is better than a day at work. I think the thing that really sucks is, I work till midnight and my flight leaves tomorrow at 6:45 in the morning.

You see, I cant get my head around how you could not like any dogs, I suppose I am just a sucker for anthing 4 legged!

Have a fab time Alan.

I don't get the not liking dogs either. I know people do, just don't get it. Our previous dog actually bit our son Jack (enough to leave a small scar). The thought of Jack not liking dogs because of it broke my heart. Thankfully our other dog and my mom's dog are wonderful with him, so much so that once we had to have Copper (the biter) put down (the aggression was too much - and no rescue would take him with the bite history) we got a puppy. Happy to say that Jack and Dodger are best friends...

I'm not all that fond of dogs either, sorry ladies. Love cats, but can't have either one because of the allergies. I can't even spend much time visiting in households with furbearers. I DO have a teddy bear, though :)

I know it is probably hard to imagine if you do love having dogs or cats, but for those of us who don't want pets, its equally hard to imagine having them in our homes. I think animals are adorable, and I don't mind other people's pets, but I cant imagine being happy having my own in my house, the hair, the maintenance, and it really grosses me out when people let their animals climb on their kitchen counters around food and things you eat off of. But I can imagine that to a lot of people, that wouldn't bothter them at all. Its all just a matter of preference, like so many things in life, one person's happiness might be another's worst nightmare. But all of the pictures of the pets here are adorable, as long as they're not in my house lol ; )

I totally understand not wanting a pet, just don't get not liking dogs.
But that is truly what makes the world so amazing, is how different everyone is. It's just awesome to think just in this group the variety of people and experiences we bring. It's just awesome.

BTW it IS gross to have your pet up on the kitchen counter! EWWW

Nicole,
I just realized you're from Linwood. I grew up in Clifton and my best friend lives in Fort Lee (right off the Palisades)

I love dogs, so do my kids, but unfortunately DH and DD are allergic to dogs, DH & DS are allergic to cats. Thankfully we have a neighbors dogs that we can love on when we need some canine company and a neighbors cat who has semi adopted us. We gave her love and attention when her owners traveled back to Switzerland for several weeks last year, since then, she comes running when we pull up on the driveway, sits on our porch and mews at our back patio sliders. She's a sweet cat.

The up side is that we don't have to feed them, clean up after them and pay for vet treatments when they are sick!

Thats good, I have to agree, if a dog bites, I really not sure it should get a second chance, as much as I love them, it is truly amazing what folks will put up with.
I got bit on the face with a daxy at work once, I only bent down to talk to it and it attached itself to my cheek, omg, what a mess, still have the scars. I could gross you out by posting pics, but I do feel strongly about dogs that bite, not really any place around kids for them thats for sure, I think it is right not to pass on to a shelter but have the guts to do the right thing.

:confused3 my beagle girl would sway you:goodvibes

Trust me my pets dont get near food, they get feet wiped on the way in the door at the porch, they are hard work and an emotional tie, I can see what your saying, but personally, life would be empty without them, they make me laugh nearly every 5 mins, they are good for a no strings attached cuddle when you need a cry and we walk around 30 miles a week together.

I agree, Jen and I also totally respect Alan and the others, I just dont understand, probably the same you guys would not understand me and my dogs.
I could not imagine any other job in the world.
Did I mention I dont do hamsters though:lmao:oh, and gerbils.

Yes we are sure to be an interesting, diverse group! I can't wait to meet everyone. And lol I'm glad that you are an animal lover and still think its gross when you have a pet on the kitchen counter. I know someone who has multiple cats and they are always hanging out up there, there are cat hairs on silverware and plates, it is so gross and it skeeves me to eat at their house knowing that :rotfl2:

That's so neat that you are from Jersey. I dont know much about Clifton though except that it is way up North, in Giants country lol. I'm in Philly Eagles country where I live. Do you know the Linwood where I live way down south, near the southern New Jersey shore (Atlantic City and south), or is there another Linwood up north? Funny how NJ is such a tiny state and yet so different from North to South!

Kay, that sounds like the perfect arrangement.Just beware of the cat, they are like stealth, they see a weak person and move in when they feel like it:rotfl:

very cute.
THANK YOU!!

I don't get it either. To us, they are part of the family. But, like you, we had to put one down, a little dachshund. He was the first dog DH and I, even had it before kids. However, he became super aggressive and was constantly trying to attack me. We knew that it could be our daughter so we made the choice to put him down. Good that Jack has a four-legged best friend. Our little guy just adores our dogs too!

I don't get the climbing on counters either. GROSS. OUr DD feeds the neighbors' cat when they go out of town and they keep her food and water bowl on the kitchen cabinet. I don't understand this.

Sorry you got bit. Cinder is our 4th doxy and the only one that hasn't shown aggressive behavior. Our first, like I said, we had to put down. The other two, while never attacked or bit, would growl and we really had to be careful. Before we adopted Cinder, I spent some time with her to make sure she wasn't aggressive and she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. I have never seen her growl or snarl. She'll bark at strangers, but no growl, snarl or bite. She's just the sweetest thing.

Both of your dogs are cute and I would say there is a good chance you have some Kelpie there.

We are one of those families that are crazy and we have ended up with four dogs. My husband got a Harry (a beautiful black lab mix) when he was going through a tough time in his life. He and Harry did everything together and are the best of buds. When hubby and I started dating Harry was not too into it. He would come and try to push his way between us when we were watching movies. The funny thing is that now Harry spends more time with me than the hubby.

Moab is our most trying dog. He is a big baby but tries to play the big dog around the house. He is always following me or running from room to room to check and see what everyone else is doing.

I will try to find some pics to post of my pack.

THANK YOU!!

Dont be sorry, I dont hold it against daxys.

My girl beagle is truly hilarious at getting between me and hubby or me and orly beagle, its amazing how she manages it so subtly or not depending on her mood.

Any you guys on face book?
I took a video of the beagles this am and posted it.

It's going to kill me to leave our dogs also. That's why we motorhome, we take them everywhere. Hopefully our son will stay in house and watch them for us. We have an 8 yr old pit/pointer mix and a 4 yr old chihuahua. The chihuahua is mine and goes every where with me and they both sleep with us. When my husband goes out, the pit mix lays with her nose touching the front door til he returns. I love any thing with fur. Didnt use to like birds but have had to save them from the pool on occaision. Husband wont touch the birds, or lizards or mice. I get them all out of the pool. I even did CPR (not breathing, just chest compression) on a gecko. I revived him! His belly was all full of water but I pushed it out and in about an hour he was up and running! Wanted to be a vet, but faint at the sight of blood, lol.

Ha! I thought you were from the one way up North (right next to Fort Lee) didn't realize there were 2. Hubby is from Sayreville.

Not sure you would have made it as a vet if you faint at the sight of blood, heehee

Wow, I am sorry I chimed in on this one. Oh well, yes it is true I am not a dog fan. To be honest I am not a pet fan. To much work, same reason I don't have kids, to much money and work.

I guess I am sorry cause I did not mean to start such a debate. Almost done packing, just have to do the stuff for my carry on. Not going to get much sleep tonight, I am off at midnight and the first part of my cross country adventure is at 6:45 in the morning. So if I am lucky I will get 3 hours.

Debating or even just discussions are the meat of life. You learn so much by finding out what others believe and feel.
I hear you about the kid thing. I love our son. Jack means the world to us. But I use to get excited over great bottles of wine and a great meal (well I still do, but occassions are few and rare), now I get excited over sales on diapers (btw, there's a great deal on Pampers at Target this week - Jeff -who never calls me at work - called to tell me about it today). They do suck the life out of you (I've been known to call Jack a parasite) but the rewards make it worth it. It's very similar to dogs. A lot of work, but so awesome in the end. But you have to be the right kind of person for either.
By the way, we will be at Epcot Sunday. We have a 3:10 ADR for Moracco with TDC Nala. If anyone is around at Epcot that day, let me know.
