Is the first week of January busy after New Years Eve and New Years Day?

We have gone anywhere from the 2nd of January until the 9th. and stayed anywhere between 7 and 12 days. The only problem with the crowds we found, was that they did not thin out until the weekend after 1st, phew a mouthful, lol. This year we arrive on the 26th of December due to DCherubs school policy and am trying not to get too scared by the crowds. Wish we were going back after the 1st for a week or so but I am counting my blessings to be going at all!
