Marathon Weekend 2026

are we feeling a group costume this year? (DD will ultimately determine my family's 5k costume, but I'm up for helping organize something if we have interest here.....even if it's a repeat of the flag shirts that maybe we wouldn't have to wear parkas over this time?!)
Maybe the 5k, for the 10k this year my DW, both DD’s and likely future SIL are contemplating going as The Thunderbolts. For the two longer races I know I won’t be able to handle a costume.

the word "costume" is used loosely for the longer distances. it's easy to "bound" things with color palettes or add a decal to a shirt or hat to keep it running-gear-centric. ;)

Difference is I think those roads were technically still open, although maybe I'm wrong. They were in awful shape from the construction, but not closed. Given how bad that was though (and I agree it was bad, especially the lighting), makes me think they would be even less inclined to do it again
They did just open the gates by test track for Wine and Dine last year though, so it wouldn't be much different. It looks like that sidewalk is staying as is, so all they'd have to do was clean it and delineate it, which wouldn't be a big deal.
Its also very unlikely for any work to be happening on Sunday, so even less of a risk.

I do hope so! They seemed to have listened to the complaints during the half and added lighting by the next morning for the marathon. Hopefully that means they'll just try and avoid a similar situation entirely.

Made a kind of backup reservation today at POFQ--never stayed there before--in case I can't get DVC at 7 months with points. I kept going back and forth on where to book (or whether to try to rent points to get at 7 months+), but since it's our first Dopey, we aren't planning on a lot of park time and want to be close to good food options. I like that there is a boat to Disney Springs as well as the bus, and the resort seems small. I was thinking SSV due to walkability to DS, but the walk can be so long to the buses for the races, I wanted to avoid that. I'm sure I"m way overthinking all this, but I didn't book my home resort (BLT) early enough so it's a whole new world :)

I recently stayed at PO-FQ for the first time (we had a mixed bag experience). One suggestion--make sure you are in a room that does NOT overlook the courtyard where they show the movies (between bldgs 5&6). They don't even start til 8:30 and it was loud. It would definitely mess up sleep on Thurs/Sat night.

Appreciate the tip--thank you! Totally open to other suggestions. I was also considering SSV as mentioned above and BCV (due to proximity to world showcase). The latter is about double the cost though.

I've stayed at SSR for all 3 of my Dopeys. We always have a rental car, so the walk to the race bus isn't a factor for me except for walking back to the room from the bus after the marathon, but if you book a preferred studio, you can be right up near the pick-up/drop-off for that (@Naomeri stayed there this year.) We like to stay in the furthest building out in Congress Park (closest to the path to DS) and even that is less than a 10min walk to the bus. And honestly, I don't think any of the buildings are really any further out than that once you get into the standard-view category. It's definitely a shorter walk than being in one of the out-lying buildings in OKW (which we were in for our first race weekend, back when we also had a 1mi walk to the start corrals...I had nearly 2mi on my feet before even starting the race back then!) If a shorter walk is important, spending the extra 1-2pts per night for a preferred room at SSR is totally worth it.

For those coming MW, if you can spare a day and hit Epic Universe, it is well worth it. We went to a preview day this Monday, and it was pretty awesome. While not the biggest park, the theming was so well done. The Ministry of Magic blew my mind. What an awesome job they did with that. Dark World was so cool. If they do the Halloween nights there, that will be awesome. They definitely tried to make it a little more geared to adultish type scary. Super Mario World was also very cool, but very loud. Sensory overload, LOL. But the Stardust Racers coaster may be one of the best coasters I have ever been on. I am usually not one to get freaked out on coasters, but multiple speed ups, loop, corkscrew, and speeding over sharp hills to sudden drops all while only strapped in with a knee harness, definitely gave me a good scare or two. You are off your seat for a good bit of time. Definitely a great thrill ride!

Glad you had a great preview day. When I attended, Stardust Racers, Mine Cart Madness (Donkey Kong ride), Ministry of Magic were all closed the entire day and Fyre Drill was closed until after 6 PM. The rest of the park strained tremendously under the pressure of so many primary attractions being closed, even with the lower crowds of a preview day. The park itself is very impressive, but I hope no one else experiences it the way I did. I’m not sure if I just had really bad luck during a preview or if these attractions will continue to be unreliable. I hope it was just my bad luck.

Ouch on the nearly 2 miles when you stayed at OKW. That is rough. I've stayed at SSR once for a race, and it seemed like we were miles away from the bus, but my memory is probably exaggerating, LOL. I really appreciate the tip on where to stay to be close to the bus--that would be huge. I love the idea of being close to DS, but there was something about walking so long before a race that stuck in my mind. Thank you!

Walks alone in the dark at 230am to get on a bus always seem interminably long. (And IMO, especially if you were in Grandstand because you can't see the Carriage House for so much of the walk, as opposed to Paddock where you can see where you need to get pretty much the whole time.
I'm not sure about SSR, but I thought the internal buses were running in OKW, so no one had to walk all the way from the far buildings up to HH
There was, but I had just missed it, and wasn't willing to stand around and wait for it to come back.

Can confirm, a preferred studio in the middle Springs building was perfect for race weekend. And since my room was on the water end of the building, and since I take the stairs whenever I don't have luggage, I found it was quicker coming back from the parks to get off at the Paddock stop and walk across the bridge to my building than to sit on the bus until it got to the Springs stop.

I stayed at POFQ this past MW and I really liked it. It's a quiet, small resort so that was definitely a plus to have somewhere peaceful to relax between races. The food court was the main negative for me. Food was fine, but not enough things on the menu that I liked. That notwithstanding I would stay there again for a race weekend.

Since we are discussing hotels on race weekends, does anyone have preferred building or room recommendations for Pop Century on Marathon Weekend?
Personally I like the 70s section. There's no pool there so it's a bit quieter. It's also very central to everything. When I stayed there two years ago I got stuck in the 90s and it was great for getting to the race buses by cutting through the parking lot, but soooo far from the food court/main building.

Flight schedule released today for MW for those who fly SWA…not fantastic but I’m still trying to buy as many of our SWA flights as possible before the 28th 🫠

Got my flights today too! Bummed that the only nonstop back is midafternoon so I won't be able to enjoy Monday at all. They used to have a flight at like 8pm which was perfect.

Two questions for you.
1. Are opening day prices the cheapest prices for the flights or will they drop?
2. I must have been living under a rock, what happens on the 28th?
