Dumbo's Peanuts

Great detail! Love the pic.

I can understand how someone with a severe tree nut allergy would be a little freaked out though -- but I can't imagine Disney hasn't posted a sign somewhere about this, as WDW seems to be fairly nut/food allergy savvy:

>1% of Americans have a tree nut allergy (to varying degrees of course) -- so on a busy day at MK, that could be hundreds of people.

Of course, if someone spills a bag of cracker jack in the park, you'd have to be mindful of that anyway...

No one does details like Disney. :) Thanks for the pics!

my DS has a peanut allergy and this wouldn't freak him out. :confused3

i think it's cute. and i am amazed that anyone would think Disney would put real peanuts out there, knowing that a lot of people have peanut allergies. Disney is very on-top of allergy issues. i've met the chef at every sit-down restaurant we've visited just because i put that DS has a peanut allergy on our dining reservations. the chefs seek you out (you don't have to ask).

If they were real, they certainly wouldn't last long with people stepping on them all day. They must be molds of peanuts cast into the concrete. I sympathize with your plight. I wonder if the Imagineers took the seriousness of peanut allergy into consideration on this one.

May I ask what they would have taken into consideration? They are not real peanuts. They are fake. They will not cause anyone with an allergy a reaction. Should they just stop putting little details like this in because someone may over react?

I think it is an amazing little detail that was added. If they were real peanuts, I could understand someone with an allergy being concerned. However, they are not real.

I was one the phone this morning with Disney and had to hear it live from a person myself so I can be confident I am not exposing my son to this.

You all were right, they indeed are fake. I know they are so good with detail, but I had to know for sure!

DD is highly allergic to peanuts and this would not freak me out. Even if they were real, she'd have to lick the ground in order for them to cause any harm.

I completely missed them when we were just there. Rode Dumbo 4 times and never looked down LOL. :rotfl2:

Thank you! Exactly what I was going to post - in an outdoor environment, a few peanuts on the ground are not going to cause an allergic reaction. The allergen needs to be either airborne (contact/inhaled allergy) or ingested. There are peanuts all over the world, people have them in the parks, drop pieces, squirrels find them and walk all over the place after holding them and eating them. Of course kids should not be stepping on the peanuts (pieces could get stuck in the sneaker treads, etc) but you can walk by them quite safely.

And if they were real, and embedded in the concrete, what would you do?

Um, peanuts are not tree-nuts, they are legumes.

Both my sons have contact allergies, so no ingestion required... That being said, yes, my boys were concerned and nervous... My 4yo believes everything at Disney is real, so why wouldn't the peanuts be?! Eventually he believed me, but it took some convincing... It's cute, but I don't think anything would be lost without it.

LOL..yes, and we all know how reliable those phone answering cast members are!

Does your four year old think the snakes in the Great Movie Ride are real? Or the spiders in It's Tough to be a Bug? Or the camels at Aladdin's Flying Carpets? Or any of the animals on the Jungle Cruise?

I love those details. When we saw them I asked my son if he was hungry for peanuts. He just gave me an exasperated look.

Or,what if they're real, and just lying there, not cleaned up yet? What do you do if someone has just spilled their snack?

I am waiting for the first lawsuit that claims a peanut allergy reaction to the fake peanuts.

I love the peanuts on the ground.

why would disney put real peanuts on the ground or even think they would? my kid has tons of allergies too but that is kind of out there to think that. my son also has a milk allergy (even to the touch) but i dont freak out everytime I see the drippings of a Mickey bar on the ground. Maybe I should call Disney and have them ban Mickey bars from the park.

With my daughter that is a possibility (just kidding...she is just a curious one year old with a peanut allergy).

It is a totally cute detail! I was surprised my son was upset by it. Once I told him they were fake he was completely cool with it! Disney is GREAT about allergies. Matter of fact we use their chocolate supplier for my daughter at Easter and other candylicious holidays.

By the way...someone called it a tree nut allergy. Peanut allergy is different than tree nut allergy (peanuts are in the legume family) and the reason people freak a little is this allergy tends to be more life-threatening in it's reaction than other allergies...at least my understanding from our pediatric allergist.

Regardless, I still find this adorable!

you won't be seeing any bugs at Its Tough to b a Bug next time because I am complaining to Disney since my son is highly allergic to bug bites.
