Ok.....nothing against doctors, nurses or any other heal care workers (because I'm one too), but I'm sorry: when your child is soaking dressings with blood, I think the correct response of the non-medical parent would be to PANIC. I'd rather go to the ER under a false alarm any day than to stay at home and risk complications. Ya know? Sometimes we health care people forget that the average person doesn't know what is life-threatening and what is not......well, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that take years of training to learn? If we all knew that, we'd all be ER nurses! Sheesh.![]()
As an RN for a little over 8 years, I too have to agree with Erica on this one. Because of what I do everyday and that little thing I like to call being a 'Mom' - I would not hesitate for one second on taking my child to the ER for 'soaking through 2 bandages and then some'....seriously, what parent wouldn't??!

It's a shame that there are folks in the 'healthcare world' that have lost compassion as we sometimes seem to forget not EVERYONE went through 4+ years of medical type schooling. Not to mention, I've seen many times what can happen to people (not just children) for 'waiting it out' ... and for some reason there is always someone from the state knocking at your door two days later...

My prayers go out to you and your little one, Julie...you did the right thing.
