Ok.....nothing against doctors, nurses or any other heal care workers (because I'm one too), but I'm sorry: when your child is soaking dressings with blood, I think the correct response of the non-medical parent would be to PANIC. I'd rather go to the ER under a false alarm any day than to stay at home and risk complications. Ya know? Sometimes we health care people forget that the average person doesn't know what is life-threatening and what is not......well, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that take years of training to learn? If we all knew that, we'd all be ER nurses! Sheesh. :sad2:

As an RN for a little over 8 years, I too have to agree with Erica on this one. Because of what I do everyday and that little thing I like to call being a 'Mom' - I would not hesitate for one second on taking my child to the ER for 'soaking through 2 bandages and then some'....seriously, what parent wouldn't??! :confused3

It's a shame that there are folks in the 'healthcare world' that have lost compassion as we sometimes seem to forget not EVERYONE went through 4+ years of medical type schooling. Not to mention, I've seen many times what can happen to people (not just children) for 'waiting it out' ... and for some reason there is always someone from the state knocking at your door two days later...:sad2:

My prayers go out to you and your little one, Julie...you did the right thing.

Also I have wanted to take the DGK to Disney again. I booked 5 days at DL last night next July. We are telling them we are going to their Great Grandfathers house but are going to DL instead first. I am going to try to not say a thing and when we drive into CA have a hissy about missing a turn and OMG now we will be on the road forever and watch their reaction.
!

That's awesome! A few years back, when Reese was about 1, we took the older two on a surprise weekend trip to Orlando while Grammie took care of Reese at home. Their Mom took us all to the airport...they had NO idea they were even going anywhere at all! They thought she was taking Jeff & I to the ariport.

So we get there, and get all the bags out & then the kids' mom says "Love you guys...bye!" and hugs and kisses the kids. They were like "huh?"

Then we wouldn't tell them where we were going. It was a 3 day weekend, and they soon figured out we were on our way to Orlando. They kept guessing Disney World, but that wasn't it, so we could say "no" and not fib!

Not until we pulled into the parking lot at the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal did the youngest figure it out. It was priceless!

I bet your grandkids are going to FLIP! What a fun grandma you are :) (Ok, that's assuming that DGK means grandkids. I'm bad with all the acronyms).

Julie--I would have done exactly the same thing. Good call on your part. Because it could have just as easily been an emergency & you would have been kicking yourself for NOT going, you know?

Everyone in Gustav's path: Saying lots of prayers for you for your safe evacutation & safe return to home. Keep us all posted. If you're heading to the DFW area, send me a PM. :goodvibes

Forgot to post I get an Urban Dictionary new word every day, and yesterdays was

Post-Party Depression

The feeling you have after a big party you had been anticipating is over.
Used in a sentence:
On sunday, I was experiencing post-party depression. After planning the big celebration for a month, I was sad when it was over.

I think this is how we all are going to feel come Oct 4th when they give us the boot off the ship... POST CRUISE DEPRESSION lol

A big thank you to Drea (anewmac) for volunteering to be the official DIS message center on Deck #1!! I've already emailed Kimberly her info which should appear in Post 1 soon.

Also a huge thank you to all the other message centers. I am working on finishing your "message board magnets" this weekend and as the cruise gets closer I will PM all of you to give you the rest of the details!

Kimberly Im not sure what Im lol at more... Donald Dancing.... OR the way his hand is positioned LOL... Kind of like he's covering that dudes "banana hamock holder" like's he could be saying "MAN this is a family beach/cruise. Save that for the SS Booze Cruise" LMAO..... Looks like magnets might be black and white and the boys will be given markers to color them LOL ....

:lmao: I've thought the very same thing about Donald's hand! However, I haven't heard the term "banana hamock holder" before... OMG :rotfl2:

Hey, coloring will keep the boys busy on the plane at least!

Honey, it will be MORE than that since the majority of us have been planning for WAY over a year!!

:thumbsup2 Yes...thank you to our MC volunteers, who will be a critical communication link AND to Erik for once again donating his time and materials!

Elliott's mommy: You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Just back from the ER. Apparently, I don't know what "excessive bleeding" means. :scared: I mean, when the kid soaks through two abdominal pads and then has it running down into his diaper (he normally doesn't wear diapers, it's a just in case thing since he's been so tired), I'd think that was excessive. But apparently not. Duh.

So I'm going to write 100 times tonight, "I must not panic and go to the ER". I swear the insurance is going to cut off Alex any day now.

Julie

YOU ARE NOT PANICKING, I am an RN and would have taken my kids in a heartbeat... tons of hugs to all of you! I live near you, if you ever have any questiosn feel free to call me, I will PM you my phone number:grouphug:

OK guys. The latest models for Gustuv show it headed VERY close to my house so we are 'running' we have reservations at an RV part in Tuscaloosa AL. WE are leaving at 1 am (camper is pretty much packed, just need to put a few cold things in the ice chest on our way out the door. Now if I can get the 4 year old to sleep so we can slip him into the truck in the morning. We aren't worried about water but we are very worried about wind damage. I'll post when I can (Not even sure if this campground has internet...but it was the only place we could find openings starting tomorrow so that we can attempt to run ahead of the mandatory evacuation out of New Orleans. ) Please keep everyone dealing with hurricanes in your prayers. This is going to be a wild one to say the least.

The flip side is that I'm leaving all my cruise things here. Hopefully I'll return to a home with no damage. How much longer until we sail out? Someone asked me what happens if all our ports are affected by hurricanes...my response has been 'its Disney...if we do nothing but sail in the ocean for 7 days I'm sure they will make it fun!"

Stay safe~

Agreed 10000000%

Crissi and I made our shirts tonight, they cost us less than $4.00 EACH, here they are!

They turned out great :thumbsup2

Powerpoint??! Glossy Paper??!! I need to get crackin' if I'm going to keep up with your door! I have several 'boxes' of paper and ideas for scrapping - just need to impliment them....:sad1:

Well, I've gone a little overboard! (Punny I know :lmao: ) I've printed so many door magnets that I'm going to have enough to rotate them in sets! :rotfl: I was thinking I would keep the main ones up, and just rotate the ones that change. Well, I have enough to fill 3 doors.

Mmmmm - do you think my neighbors will mind if I use their doors? :confused3

Hmmmmmm........now, are we talking about the 'dancing duck' or the man in the Speedo? :confused3

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Our next Disney Land/Sea trip in Dec '09 is going to be a surprise for the kids. I'm not sure how we will play it all off yet, but we will surprise them first with WDW then with the cruise. I'm thinking of just giving them a letter for each leg of the trip. The only trouble is when we are really heading home they might think we are going somewhere else! :rotfl:

Julie: I would have done the same thing! I've taken my kido's to the ER for much less.

Elliot's Mommy and others in the path of the Hurricane  Stay safe and keep us posted if you can.

We are headed for a neighborhood picnic in about an hour. I'm baking 2 pies right now! OK, so Mrs. Smith made them, but I put them in the oven.

Have a great day!

Tiffany

I haven't had time to finish reading from yesterday or today yet, but when you do the on-line check in and the forms print the checklist says:

* Signed Online Check-in Signature Form
* Signed Payment Authorization Form
* Signed and completed optional forms from Step Five
* Valid proof of citizenship for all members of your party — including children
* Valid government issued photo identification for all adults in your party

Is the signed Online Check-in Signature Form the same thing as the cruise contract sheet that you sign? I only had that print out for me to sign and the payment authorization forum so I just want to make sure they are two in the same.

I believe these are one and the same...If I'm not mistaken the forms on-line are the same as your little 'cruise doc' packet that most everyone is getting from the 'man in the brown truck' (ie UPS) or your travel agent...someone (anyone) - correct me if I am wrong. :surfweb:

Well, I'm in 7606 - feel free to spread the 'magnet love' :hippie: on my door...and while you're at it  I'll take whatever extras you got for the FE's.....:scared:

Thanks all for the good thoughts and encouragement. I did tell the ER doctor when he told me just to call the surgeon next time- that he'd probably tell me to come to the ER since I don't have a videophone and he wouldn't be able to see how much he had bled. The physician's assistant was much more understanding.

Hopefully we're done with drama. (Yeah, he's going to have a stent in his kidney on vacation. There's room for a lot more drama...)

The other kids are doing fine. Madalyn is a little clingy and whiny, but she's been like that for a while. Daddy being gone+ new little brother+ medical issues= unhappy girl. She told Alex the other day this was her house and he should go back to China. I'm thinking I'm going to find him wrapped in a box with "to China" written it on it someday.

Tomorrow- Alex permitting- we're working on the tie dye shirts. We did the swirly Mickey head ones, and as you see, there's no picture posted. That's how good they came out. :rotfl:

LOL!!!! That is so funny, but not funny at the same time! You must be ready to pull your hair out at times! But I'm sure though all of it, you still love them more than words could ever say.

[SIGH] Still no documents for us. :confused3

To make matters worse, my husband says, "if we don't get out documents, does that mean we can't go?" I sure hope not!!

I also bought new luggage!!! :woohoo:

AND, for anyone that's interested:

GO GATORS!!!!

I bleed Orange & Blue!!

To you door magnet experts: If I print out my magnets on magnetic paper, can I laminate them without losing the magnetism? :confused3
