Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

:thumbsup2 We'll have a leg up on dealing with the heat and humidity, at least when we aren't in the pool or the lounge like smart Texans!
That's what I'm hoping!!! We've only been in the spring when the weather has been nearly always PERFECT and the crowds light, so this will be a new experience. :boat:

Do all the renovated YC rooms have hand-held sprayers in addition to the overhead shower heads? Am looking at a photo on AllEars. Thanks a lot. I don't think the new BC rooms have them.

Renovations are just beginning at the Yacht Club. The pictures we have seen are sample rooms

I was told the same thing, that it will be similar to the Marketplace at the Beach Club.

Not going to lie, I loved how quiet the Gift Shop at YC was. If this is true, it will be sad to see it become a zoo like BC marketplace (which I have no problems with, but I liked having nice, quiet F&F as an option!

A few of our regulars with be at the resort in August, but now with Teena living in Vegas, there has not been an organized meet since August 2015.

Sigh. I miss those days.

Awesome! Thanks!

@Scott MC Maybe you can hold out for a room with Captain Salty

Dee? Why do you hate me?

We have this creepy clown doll in our house (a gift from my MIL to one of my daughters, who rejected it outright). Periodically, I stuff it under the random pillow or in the odd dresser drawer because it's a free way of tormenting one of my kids when they're being especially vexatious. I think Captain Salty would provide endless entertainment. Just imagine your spouse's reaction when he or she climbs under the sheets and finds Salty grinning back?

I had an insane fear of clowns as a kid, and missed many a birthday party/field trip/amusement park because of it. At this point in my life, I simply don't like them. When I was young, my mother used to kid that if I really misbehaved, she'd dress up like a clown and pop out at me.

It's a wonder I grew up so normal. :scared:

That's fantastic! There's always room for a bonus trip! Thanks for letting us know.

:woohoo:

It's exciting, but this thread and these 2 resorts are our home!

Does anyone else hate the new rooms as much as I do? They're just ugly. There's nothing special about them. I don't go to Disney to stay in a hotel that looks like every other hotel out there. The best part of the Disney resorts if the way the furniture, etc. reflects the theme of the resort. There's nothing "Yacht Club" about a brown room. I hope they don't do this to the Beach Club too.

I'm not blown away by them, but I don't hate them. I'd like to see more finished rooms before I render my opinion. I think what bothers me the most is the pillow. "We the People?" This isn't the American Adventure or Hall of Presidents. It's the Yacht Club! There were hundreds of beautiful quotes about the sea or ocean that could have been printed on those pillows instead. Or how about a picture of Sailor Donald? I would have moved in if they'd done that! But "We the People?" Maybe it's because I've lately not felt very patriotic :sad2:, but it seems really out of place. I think, based on these pics that BC did a better job streamlining the look, but staying true to the theme.

I just saw online that Captain's Grille is officially relocated to Ariel's from mid-May to "fall" 2017 and reservations are now able to be booked after 5/14 (where you couldn't before). SO happy to see this, as we wanted to do a breakfast there in August. The food and prices look perfect for an OOP meal!

Oooooh! DF's favorite princess is Ariel, and we've always wanted to get inside Ariel's, and this is a perfect opportunity, but it begs the question, is YC lobby currently or about to be a warzone? If so, what's going on with Ale and Compass?

Stupid question of the day: what/where is Ariel's???

It was a full service restaurant when Beach Club first opened. It's in that hallway just before you leave to go outside to head toward Beaches and Cream. After they closed it they use it for special events, receptions etc.

It's still not letting me book anything online for July. Where did you see this?

Thank you! Super convenient for us for our August 2017 trip. We loved having a TS restaurant in the YC that we could get ADRs for at the last minute if needed during our last two trips. Will miss the magic pictures unless they haul them along. LOL

From Disney World site:
From mid-May until Fall 2017, Sail to Ariel’s to Enjoy the Captain’s Grill
Join us at a new destination! During refurbishments, the Captain’s Grill is relocating to the oceanic-themed Ariel’s.

From the moment you step through the ironwork gate, be immersed in an enchanting underwater setting— where colorful coral displays, whimsical fish sculptures and hand-blown glass bubbles make you feel like you’re inside the pages of a fairy tale.

Ariel’s is located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

The dates I tried, though, will not accept any ADRs, yet.

Hello everyone!

I am new to this board because I had originally been hoping to stay at the Poly for our upcoming trip via DVC point rentals. Based on our dates and the number of points required and available, it did not seem likely, so we moved onto our second choice, which is the Beach Club Villas.

We will be staying at the BCV Jan 1 - 6, 2018 before we head out on our 7-Day Western Caribbean Disney Cruise. I am really excited for this trip and while BCV was on our list of desirable resorts, I don't know that much about it and we hadn't planned to visit Epcot when I thought we would be staying at the Poly.

A little bit about us and our trip. DH and I have two kids who will be 7.5 (boy) and 5 (girl) when we travel. We are Canadian, so even though I have been warned that weather in Florida can be on the cool side in early January, we know that the pools will get use by our family! My kids love to swim and for those who have been on DCL, the pools are not exactly the draw, which made the pool at WDW more important. The pools at BC look great and it was one of the reasons I was excited to book it.

We have a 5-day pass that I may add a park hopper to so that we can go in and out of Epcot since it is so close, but we had really only planned one park per day. We love to eat and although TS meals take up a lot of time, we find it relaxing and a great break from the crowds and action of the parks. We don't feel like we need to do and see everything at each park because we know we will be back.

Any advice anyone can offer about BCV would be great. We have a studio and know it will be tight, but are not going to be over-packed since we need to fit everything in our cruise stateship. This means doing laundry will be a must!

Anyways, I look forward to reading the boards and hearing about your experiences.

Best,

Brandy

New menus, effective January 2017, at Ale and Compass and Crew's Club Lounge (from AllEars.net).

It seems that the major change is the burger.
These menus are more current than those posted on Disney's own site.

Thank you for providing those links. I'll add them to the Dining Post 7 on Page 1.

:welcome: to the thread and thanks for your input.

I'm pretty sure they are still tweaking the design, and from what I hear, we should be expecting a very nautical look to the rooms. '

I don't necessarily think young people reject the Disney touches. Of course things should be updated but after all they are still there to visit the parks and see Mickey. It can be both updated and have Disney touches if Disney would choose that.

I agree. My very favorite Disney resort is the Disneyland Hotel, and one of the things I loved best was the subtle Disney touches. The best example is that the light sconces on either side of the bathroom mirror were gloved Mickey hands. It was done in such a way that it was very subtle. But when I noticed, I was truly delighted by that! It's the little things, right? I don't need to be hit over the head with Disney theming, but I also don't want to feel like I'm walking in to the Hilton, either.

My niece was terrified of clowns as a kid. And she was one of those kids allowed to run amok in restaurants because the parents couldn't be bothered to parent. It was so bad, my husband and I, who were saving to buy a house and paying off student loans, turned down several free meals because we couldn't take eating with her. There was an Italian place my in-laws liked to eat at that had a clown on Tuesdays. He'd stroll from table to table, making balloon animals and telling jokes. We managed to keep our niece in line one night because we told her the clown was coming over if she didn't behave. Mean, but effective.

Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort to Undergo Major Overhaul information was just posted today as a DIS article.

Captain’s Grille, one of the table service restaurants located just off the lobby of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort at Walt Disney World, is getting ready to be refurbished. Instead of closing, the restaurant will actually be relocating to Ariel’s, also at the Yacht Club, from mid-May until sometime this Fall as the work is being completed.

Details on what specifically is being refurbished have not been released, but we’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.

Hi Brandy! Great to see you here! If you look in the first few posts of this thread, you'll find a ton of great information about the Beach Club and the Villas, as well as the Stormalong Bay pool! I grew up in Toronto, and I remember those January trips we took to Orlando when I was a kid, and a 60F pool in Florida seemed so warm! I'm sure your kids will have a ball at Stormalong Bay, and it should definitely be warmer than 60 F in the water. ;)

If you like TS restaurants, then you will definitely want the park hoppers. It is so convenient to just jump in and out of Epcot when you stay at BC/BCV! Seriously, it's about a 10 minute walk to France. If you don't want to get the hoppers, there are a number of restaurants along the Boardwalk that do not need a park pass, and are about a 15 minute walk. But we like the Epcot restaurants. We like to come back for dinner, or if we stay out late one night, we like to sleep in the next morning and then have lunch at Epcot. For example, once during each trip we'll do the late EMH at MK, then crash in our room, only to get up for lunch at Via Napoli (love that pizza!) the next morning, then head off to AK or DHS for the afternoon.

Beaches & Cream is another must-do, and is an excellent value (in Disney terms), especially if you are paying OOP. Make sure you get some ADRs there!

A studio will be tight, but you should be okay. It will be bigger than your DCL stateroom, that's for sure! IIRC, when the BCV were renovated, they got daybeds, so each of your kids can have their own bed. If yours are like mine, that's a lifesaver!

The studios don't have laundry, but there are laundry rooms around the resort, so you can definitely get it done before you leave for the cruise.

I know you'll have a terrific stay!
