Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Hello everyone!

I am new to this board because I had originally been hoping to stay at the Poly for our upcoming trip via DVC point rentals. Based on our dates and the number of points required and available, it did not seem likely, so we moved onto our second choice, which is the Beach Club Villas.

We will be staying at the BCV Jan 1 - 6, 2018 before we head out on our 7-Day Western Caribbean Disney Cruise. I am really excited for this trip and while BCV was on our list of desirable resorts, I don't know that much about it and we hadn't planned to visit Epcot when I thought we would be staying at the Poly.

A little bit about us and our trip. DH and I have two kids who will be 7.5 (boy) and 5 (girl) when we travel. We are Canadian, so even though I have been warned that weather in Florida can be on the cool side in early January, we know that the pools will get use by our family! My kids love to swim and for those who have been on DCL, the pools are not exactly the draw, which made the pool at WDW more important. The pools at BC look great and it was one of the reasons I was excited to book it.

We have a 5-day pass that I may add a park hopper to so that we can go in and out of Epcot since it is so close, but we had really only planned one park per day. We love to eat and although TS meals take up a lot of time, we find it relaxing and a great break from the crowds and action of the parks. We don't feel like we need to do and see everything at each park because we know we will be back.

Any advice anyone can offer about BCV would be great. We have a studio and know it will be tight, but are not going to be over-packed since we need to fit everything in our cruise stateship. This means doing laundry will be a must!

Anyways, I look forward to reading the boards and hearing about your experiences.

Best,

Brandy
Hi Brandy! Oh my gosh, you chose a great resort for kids who swim! I would add hoppers since you are right outside of Epcot, and honestly, I would plan to visit that park. There are plenty of attractions that the kids would enjoy. I like evenings in the World Showcase so perhaps plan dinner there one night after DAK or DHS so you can enjoy Illuminations.

The Boardwalk at night is fun, offering entertainment and plenty of dining options. I like Tratorria al Forno a lot.

I realize the renovations are posted on the first page. But where do they stand with the Yacht Club renovations have they officially started????
They have officially started. Not sure where they stand but would be interested to know -- I'm planning a trip this November and prefer Yacht Club, but also want a water view room, and at this point only garden view are available, which I assume is because of the renovation. Anyone heard when water view rooms might be available again at Yacht?

I read a post somewhere (maybe here but not sure) from someone saying that they stayed at Beach Club with a room close to Cape May and there was always a fish smell in the hallways. Anyone else experience that? Trying to figure out room requests if we stay at Beach Club this November instead of Yacht. Thanks

Last trip we were on the 2nd floor, at the end of the hallway right where you go up the stairs in the lobby. We did notice a fishy smell around dinnertime, however never all the way down the hall to our room.

So exited to ask to be added back to the Be Our Guest list! After jumping ship (ha ha) on our April YC reservation, we just booked 3 nights at BC in October!! We've always stayed at the YC, so I'm excited to give the light side a try! Now to just hope the school calendar lines up with our booking! :)

October 26-29 BC

Distracted...

Forgot to look for the February activities calendar. I'll try to post that tonight or tomorrow morning.

Can you take an item from the Beaches and Cream take-out window and chow down or sip it back at SAB? The idea of root beer floats (possibly adult versions) poolside, sounds so good right now, albeit I will have to wait until our visit in August.

Haven't been able to get my hands on a copy yet.

Anyone have a February Activities Calendar for the resort?

I know that guests staying club level that month used to be able to request an emailed copy of the schedule, but I don't know if that is still the case now that the Concierge Planning Services have been centralized.

TIA

Does anyone else hate the new rooms as much as I do? They're just ugly. There's nothing special about them. I don't go to Disney to stay in a hotel that looks like every other hotel out there. The best part of the Disney resorts if the way the furniture, etc. reflects the theme of the resort. There's nothing "Yacht Club" about a brown room. I hope they don't do this to the Beach Club too.

I am disappointed that the new YC room prototype doesn't have much obvious nautical or Disney theming. Theming is the main reason I like to stay on property. I understand this new décor is preliminary, and I really hope they will add more Disney and nautical theming. When they renovated the Beach Club rooms they removed the overt theming and made it much more subtle. Too bad, so sad.

I'm not blown away by them, but I don't hate them. I'd like to see more finished rooms before I render my opinion. I think what bothers me the most is the pillow. "We the People?" This isn't the American Adventure or Hall of Presidents. It's the Yacht Club! There were hundreds of beautiful quotes about the sea or ocean that could have been printed on those pillows instead. Or how about a picture of Sailor Donald? I would have moved in if they'd done that!

I agree that a nautical theme would make more sense here, and the "We the People" pillow might fit better on a bench in the lobby of the American Adventure or Hall of Presidents. "We the People" is a nice sentiment, but I don't see why they chose this setting for it.

I'm glad to hear the renovations started. I booked the Beach Club for October 21st to October 29th but i am paying rack rate for a lagoon/pool view. When discounts come out (last year it was the end of April) I would be willing to change over to the yacht club if a discount was involved but only if I knew I would be getting a renovated room (which i know there is no guarantee of that). I have not stayed at the beach club in my last 4 trips. I have started off booking my vacations at beach club and then a discount would come out and its actually been less $ when promotions are coming out during food and wine to stay at the grand for obvious reason (not being close to epcot) the beach club is my favorite hotel and we have not stayed there in quite some time I may just wind up keeping the reservations regardless of a discount or not but just wanted to know the status of the yacht club renovations.

You can add me to the Be our Guest List for October October 21st to 29th at the Beach Club.

Thank you to the guest who provided a copy of the February calendar to me.

I have been experiencing technical difficulties with Photobucket. I used to be able to specify a large size when uploading photos (by clicking on a gear shaped icon) but a few months ago, the Photobucket interface changed and I can't figure out how to upload at different sizes. I have also tried to go to the picture and manually change the size, but that isn't working either. It says the size I have is the largest allowed.

Any suggestions?

I'll post this over on the Technical Issues board as well, although this is PB issue, not a DIS problem.

:headache:

Not sure if this has been posted yet. Newly renovated Yacht Club rooms. I love the look, although I'm not sure I understand the We the People pillow in terms of the resort theme. I have no issue with a pillow that says We the People, I'm just not sure how that fits with the Yacht Club nautical theme.

Hey guys...here's the deal with the We the People pillow. The pictures posted in the link above are mine. The pillow is not part of the room décor but was a pillow we bought and the mousekeepers had left it on the bed when they made it. Overall I liked the rooms but missed the nautical feel of the old rooms. But it was very comfortable and had tons of storage. We stayed in this room in December and were told it was one of two that had been renovated. Any questions, please ask!

Ah, that makes sense! Cute pillow, just wasn't sure how it connected to the theming! How nice to get to stay in a brand-new room! I wonder if all the rooms are going to get K-cups, eventually.

Oh, thanks for letting us know. That makes a lot more sense, then. It's a good message on the pillow, but we were all baffled what it had to do with a nautical theme. I also liked the nautical theme of the old rooms, and hope they will add more nautical touches to the new ones.
