I'm on my way to the meeting now. The leader called me yesterday and told me that out of 20 girls that had committed to going only a handful had paid deposits, and when she contacted parents their response was " oh, we decided against going". I told the leader we should tell the girls as a group tonight so that they would all find out together. :( I'll post later on how the meeting went.

I am sorry! i know how much fun it is going to DC with Girl scouts! we use to go all the time! I hope that they will make another trip! there is always something new to see in DC!

Oh thats sad! D.C. is a blast! We love to go there and Epcotgrl is right there is always something new to see or something old that you didn't notice before. Its a shame more kids couldn't go.

I know the girls will be disappointed but , as a leader myself, until they catch that sniper you wouldn't catch me in DC with my troop! Probably for the best now but I hope it works out later.

The leader looked up GS sanctioned trips, so we were able to present it as a bad news/good news kind of thing. they were disappointed about the DC trip, but there is a dude ranch in upstate NY, as well as a few other things the girls were interested in. By the end of the meeting the girls were pretty much over their disappointment:)

I'm glad the girls ended up feeling ok about it! That's all ya need!!

Sounds like you made lemonade out of some lemons.

Did the parents cancel prior to the shooting? If so, you may have the same problem with the next trip.

Having done a lot of Girl Scout trips I can tell you that follow-thru can be spotty.

Are the girls raising the funds or are the parents financing this trip? That makes a big difference. Parental financing tends to come and go depending on what the girl says she wants to do today. If the girls raise the funds they are more committed to the trip.
