DCL 11/17/03 - Day at Sea
The kids woke up late on Monday morning due to the time change when we sailed into the Caribbean. We went to breakfast in Lumieres. The service was much slower than in the evening. They made chocolate chip pancakes special for Kaitlyn though using larger chunks of chocolate.
I took William and Kaitlyn to the OC while Mike went up to enjoy Quiet Cove. They both enjoyed their Mousekateer training and learned how to march, do high fours (Mickey has four fingers), and do Mickey ears. When Mickey joined them he gave them all high fours. They marched along behind them and William was a great big brother making sure Kaitlyn stayed in line with him and followed along.
We met Mike in the atrium for the Princess autograph session at 11:30. We were third in line at 10:55. Mike walked the kids around while waiting for the Princesses to arrive. They saw Cinderella once again, and met Snow White and Belle. When we turned to leave the table after getting Belles autograph Stitch surprised everyone and crashed the party. He crawled under the table then appeared again and joined the Princesses. We were able to give him the books to sign instead of getting back in line. I asked the cast member who was announcing the events in the atrium where the line for Dopey would be and he advised me to go to the top of the stairs to meet Suzie and Pearla, Cinderellas dresser mice friends, since they were due to arrive in a few minutes. We did just that and they came out moments later. They measured the kids then signed their books and posed for a picture. We returned to the atrium and were led to the end of the Princess line to start the Dopey line. The person who helped us turned out to be the General Manager of the characters on The Magic. I told him that I was extremely impressed with the time and attention each character was showing the children. I also told him how personable Cinderella had been to Kaitlyn, remembering her and calling her by name each time she saw us. We saw Dopey at noon. I have to say that the cast members work very hard to be fair and keep order at the autograph and photo sessions. The manager told the kids to go see Dopey as other CMs quickly escorted the children and adults who basically mobbed him when he appeared at the tree. While this was happening, Dopey focused his attention on William and Kaitlyn.
Taking Rudys advice from the night before, we had lunch in Parrot Cay at the Asian buffet. The food was incredible. I especially enjoyed the chef preparing fresh noodles with whatever ingredients you wanted. I was amazed that he was able to cook without seeming to be affected by the movement of the ship. I was not able to stand still while waiting at the station and had to keep shifting to keep my balance. When I commented about this, he told me that it had been much worse two weeks prior. I remembered reading about that cruise on the boards and was grateful that we werent experiencing the same. 15 foot waves are enough for me.
After lunch William wanted to go to the Oceaneers Lab to watch The Little Mermaid with his friends. I dropped him off while Mike and Kaitlyn headed up to the Mickey Pool. After meeting them on Deck 9, I found Mary watching her kids in the pool and we had a nice visit. The pool had become a wave pool with the rocking of The Magic. The kids were sitting on the outer edges and they screamed with delight as the water washed over them. It splashed at least a foot over the side. The parents were quite entertained watching this as well. Kaitlyn stayed in the ear and watched all the excitement. The ear seemed to remain pretty calm. The Goofy pool was closed. This was due to the fact that the water was crashing aft & forward against the pool walls and splashed at least 3-4 feet over the deck, which would make it 5-6 feet from the water surface.
We changed, then picked up William to go see Spy Kids 3D. This turned out to be quite an experience since the combination of the 3D effects with the rocking of the ship turned it into a 4D event. Kaitlyn fell asleep almost right away and slept until 6 for dinner. I took William to the Atrium to meet Captain Hook while Mike got ready. We also met Pinocchio.
Dinner was in Lumieres Tuesday evening. I enjoyed fried cheese, jumbo shrimp cocktail, salad, baked cod, and the Grande Marnier Soufflé. I have to say that it was incredible and I did not feel that I would miss out on much by not going to Palo this cruise. I excused myself and took the kids to the OC to have their picture taken with Daisy Duck and make a frame. William headed right off to play when we arrived. He came back for Kaitlyn telling her that he wanted to get their picture taken together. When he couldnt convince her to join him, he found another willing friend. Kaitlyn was only interested in the fish play area. She was trying hard to keep up with some older girls though and I was concerned that she would hurt herself since she was tripping over the octopus tenicles a lot. I tried to take her back to Lumieres with me but she did not want to go. Lyndelle was at the check in desk and asked if Kaitlyn wanted to leave. When I explained my concern and that I didnt expect them to be able to watch her, she promised me that she would keep an eye on her while she was playing there and if there was any problem they would page us right away even if she didnt ask for us.
We were all able to have a nice talk with Rudy after getting our deserts. He was leaving for home in two cruises for nine weeks. He said that it would be his first Christmas home in five years. He plans to return to The Magic for another six months after finishing his vacation. Mike and I enjoyed looking in the shops without the kids after dinner until 8 when the activity would be finished. We picked up the kids and found seats in the theater for Hercules the Muse-ical. Mike and I really enjoyed this performance. The muses had incredible voices and the moment Hades opened his mouth we both looked at each other and laughed. He sounded just like Brian, one of our tablemates. The actor who was Hades was a riot. Kaitlyn was mesmerized during the show once again. William kept asking me where the characters were and when they would come out. He wanted to see Mickey and the gang and didnt really enjoy it as much as the rest of us. Next time I will know to let him enjoy the OC during this one.
We went to Studio Sea for the line dancing party at 9:45. William really enjoyed himself there. He did pretty well with some of the dancing too. After a windy stroll on Deck 10, we returned to our room and found a puppy towel creation waiting for us. The kids got in bed and watched a few minutes of TV before dropping off to sleep. After planning out the next day, we were once again rocked to sleep by the waves.
