Cancellation due to hurricane

I don't recall hearing of any DCL cruises being flat out cancelled due to hurricans. While hurricans are large storms, the ocean is larger so there's always somewhere else the ship can go.

Now if the hurrican is approaching the area of Port Canaveral and the port gets closed, the ship will divert to another port, and even alter the length of a cruise.

For us, I believe it was September of 2004 we had a 7 day cruise booked when a hurrican was headed for the Florida East coast for embarkation day. DCL extended the current cruise by two days, diverted the ship to another port, and changed the following cruise (our cruise) to a 5 day cruise. DCL notified us of the changes and offered the choise of a partial refund and discount on a future booking if we sailed the 5 day cruise, or offered a 100% refund (including the cost of travel insurance purchased through DCL) if we wanted to cancel. The setup would have required us to drive through the hurrican to get to the diverted port, and require a lengthy bus trip to get back to our car, so we opted for the refund :( )

Theres 2 times that a DCL cruise has been canceled. The first time was in Nov 02 to break the norwalk virus cycle and the other was in Sept 04.This is off the DCL page

This was during Frances I think:

Disney Cruise Line Update

Given the lengthy, extended duration of the storm, damage assessments which need to occur, the disruption in air travel and ocean wave conditions through Sept. 6, Disney Cruise Line has made the following decisions: The Disney Magic five-day cruise scheduled to depart Monday, Sept. 6 will be pushed to Tuesday, Sept. 7. This will now be a four-day cruise returning on Saturday (this cruise was originally a seven-day cut to five-days). The Disney Wonder three-day cruise (originally a four-day) scheduled to depart Monday, Sept. 6 in the evening has been cancelled. Guests who were scheduled to sail on this cruise will be given the opportunity to transfer over to the Disney Magic.

In October of 2008 we left St.Maarten early and bypassed St.Thomas due to hurrican Omar and diverted to Nassau. I honestly can't remember hearing a single person complain. Senor Frogs, Tortuga rum cakes, staw market, Del Sol and beautiful hot sun compared to Omar it was great.
I may have left out a detail or 2 but one of the mods here was on the cruise so she can take over from here.

I think you got the most of it Denis! Pirate night was changed to a different night, but everything was great. If I recall, most of us were a little relieved we didn't have to get up at dawn for immigration in St. Thomas :drinking1

We were out at sea when a big storm hit Port Canaveral. The captain found good weather for us the whole time but we had to disembark in Fort Lauderdale as PC was full of debris. Disney bussed a bunch of cast members overnight to Fort Lauderdale and they were very organized getting us off the boat and onto busses. The bus ride wasn't very fun, but overall I was very impressed. We had a great trip!

We were on the same cruise and there were no complaints from us. We were scheduled to swim w/ dolphins in St Thomas, but getting a refund on that excursion was just fine with us. If I remember correctly the Captain avoided all the rain, except for some sprinkles at the sail away party. I think they have Plan A, B, C and D if needed due to weather.

None here either. Denis said it all nicely. We had Pirate night as we were leaving Nassau and that was delayed because it was raining :lmao: But once we sailed out of the weather the party went on and the fireworks went off as promised. I think it was also longer than originally scheduled for too. Had a great time and wound up with an extra half sea-day. something like that.
