Blue Sky Rumor: Ride coming to UK Pavilion?

All I'm trying to say is that some people are fussing about how Frozen in Norway is not an accurate portrayal of it and is all based in fantasy. What people see in resort/tourist areas of some places is also very much fantasy. If you want accuracy and truth, then it goes across ALL of World Showcase not just one or two because you don't like the theming or IP.

You're 100% correct. I think some of these people forget they're in a theme park.

There's nothing wrong with adding in some Disney magic to the WS.

In February when we rode the Grand Fiesta boat ride, the Three Caballeros animatronics at the end were not working...It looked like Donald and his amigos had too much tequila ...

I'd be OK with a Mary Poppins ride in the UK pavilion (although I think a rotating exhibit with Brit Pop Culture would be pretty good too). Mary Poppins actually does remind me of London... Especially the "Feed the Birds" in front of St. Paul's Cathedral.
I think a ride with Bert as the bus driver/tour guide through London would be quite fun. He could point out sites from the movie (and/or new movie). Or use the new character Jack...And have Mary Poppins show up at the end...That type of ride would be more simulator (I know that word is taboo around here) but I believe it could be interesting...
The ride that was proposed by Tony Baxter is pretty fascinating as well, although I'm not sure about implementation...

Not really...

What justification is there for a phoney land when the showcase states theme is a "showcase of nations around the world"?

There is NONE. Where the hell is arrendale?
In the same world where three talking birds can explain about Mexico...
When will some get over the fact that their is no sin in having an attraction in a "world" that is somewhat associated with the culture.

This is NOT a real museum or such

I completely agree. Most people agree. FEA is a huge success and Disney is clearly moving in the IP direction for WS because more people agree with that philosophy than don't.

Brace yourself for Ratatouille ;)

Can we just stop talking about the Mexico ride as if it is at all a worthwhile Disney ride? Frankly it was built with Mexican money to be a Mexico tourist ad back in the early 80s and essentially never updated. The addition of the Tres Amigos just makes it even more sad. I think it is bordering on inappropriate and insulting to Mexico at this point. As I said before, I doubt most people even know it is there, which is probably a good thing. Frankly, I dragged my wife on it during our last visit so we could laugh at how awful it is. It might be the absolute worst ride at WDW from a theme and execution point of view. And that really sucks, because the rest of the Mexico pavilion and the San Angel Inn is really well done. But once you sail past the volcano, the rest of that ride is and should be embarrassing to Disney, Mexicans and the Mexican government and tourist agencies.

Harsh ... but the point about the volcano is well taken. The ride is pretty much downhill from there. If they had only made the entire ride with the same level of atmosphere/theming as the volcano area then it would be a classic.

And I have to admit, if anyone asked me what kind of ride at WDW should they make "more like that", Mexico would be nearly the last ... except for the volcano.

I would've loved to see Epcot in its glory with world of motion and horizons as well as the original figment.
Gosh I'm showing what generation I come from by saying this but:
maybe in person I might be able to actually see what the deal with these are. Cue those torches because after being exposed to how great horizons was according to everyone online watching it left me extremely underwhelmed, and I've been scared to watch the other older attractions out of fear of that underwhelment. I wasn't even 25 months old when horizons closed just an FYI
A Coco overlay wouldn't necessarily be super popular...but just saying.
I honestly don't see coco being a success. Shame that November isn't really profitable anymore for movies, maybe it could be the Star Wars factor though.
Brace yourself for Ratatouille ;)
Oh I'm braced alright. Braced for an announcement!

Me too. As long as this doesn't affect Impressions de France, which I love :)

Impressions de France might be great if you have never actually been to France, but for those of us who have, you quickly realize that the movie has about as much to do with actual France as the 3 caballeros have to do with actual Mexico. I.e. Not much at all.

I have actually been to France a few times and studied French for 5+ years. Of course France doesn't look like that. It's not a documentary. It's a beautiful movie with a fantastic, elegant soundtrack.

Why do some people think something in WS has to be a perfect and complete representation of the country to be good?? It's in a Disney park for God's sake. lol.

The original movie has more to do with Mexico than the ride to be honest

I always saw the goal of WS as encouraging people to explore and think beyond their boarders, etc - that it would make you want to go to those actual countries because of how fun and interesting the pavilions are. So is Gran Fiesta the most accurate portrayal of Mexico? Now but it enables you to take interest in the culture - I think that is the issue people have with FAE in that's arendale isn't a real place so what are you getting interested in? That said they did a good job in making it their summer haus and being accurate to architecture in Norway, etc

I always thought the most effective part of WS is the CMs that come from those counties and tend to be some of the friendliest and best CMs in all of WDW - that more than anything I think does a lot to make our world seem "smaller" and bring us together which is something Walt was always interested

I love the characters in the countries. Each pavilion really needs its own ride and if the ride is attached to an IP that's associated with the country than even better. No one actually thinks the pavilions are supposed to be accurate representations of the countries they represent. If anything, the charters and IP rides can only add to the illusion of a "real" fantasy world. Sort of a parallel universe similar to the Pixar Universe theory in the movies. The WS is similar enough to our world that we recognize the countries but the characters bind them all together in the "Disney universe" and allow for Arendale and Norway to coexist in the same place. When you are on vacation in the WS let your suspension of disbelief take over for a little while and enjoy the fantasy you are paying so much for.

Impressions de France is way more representative of the country Than probably any other attraction in WS. I've been to France countless times. This is the beauty of the country and its landmarks/landscape in its finest form. Y'all are acting like it CGI. Lol.

That said, I wish they'd update impressions to one giant screen!

Agree...and that was the design of Epcot...

It seems clear that many around just don't seem to get it. "A little Disney magic" is a modern day hoax if it has to have the little mermaid soundtrack or a frozen gift shop attached to it.

It's sad really...maybe inevitable...but sad. Who needs a magic kingdom with a gigantic, toxic lagoon in the middle.

It's small minded.

No we get it. We just disagree. I'm an AP holder and I go to WDW twice a week, occasionally 3 times. In all of WDW, the WS is the only 'land' that I find boring and empty. There are parts of it that I really like, pretty much all the attractions except the circle visions. I do wish Maelstrom was still around but I like FEA.

I have eaten at almost all the restaurants and now I only eat at Spice Road Table or Chefs de France which are my favorites. I've walked thru all the shops a few times and seen the performers. I've pretty much done it all and the WS is the only part of WDW I can say that confidently about because there just isn't much there, especially given it's size. Maybe if I only went once a year a few gift shops and performers would be enough. But it's not.

Personally, I agree with you that it would be better if all the attractions were themed to the actual country rather than an IP. Like if they had built that Rhine river cruise in Germany or the Venetian gondola ride in Italy or Mount Fuji in Japan. But if we can't get that I'd prefer a Pinocchio ride to nothing and I bet the vast majority would agree.

And frankly, I think it's small minded to assume that all people who like something different than you are necessarily small minded. We just have a different opinion and are more able to adapt to change.

You should try to express your point of view without insulting people who disagree with you, which you've done in almost every post.
