Blue Sky Rumor: Ride coming to UK Pavilion?

Agree...and that was the design of Epcot...

It seems clear that many around just don't seem to get it. "A little Disney magic" is a modern day hoax if it has to have the little mermaid soundtrack or a frozen gift shop attached to it.

It's sad really...maybe inevitable...but sad. Who needs a magic kingdom with a gigantic, toxic lagoon in the middle.

It's small minded.

I don't have a problem with Disney adding in some IP here and there. I personally think Ratatouille is an excellent addition along side Impressions de france

Specifically...I don't mind the ratatouille ride as an addition...
But I don't need an Alice ride in the U.K. Or Mulan in China...

I think it's a mistake to cater to 7 year olds and they can't say no parents

No we get it. We just disagree. I'm an AP holder and I go to WDW twice a week, occasionally 3 times. In all of WDW, the WS is the only 'land' that I find boring and empty. There are parts of it that I really like, pretty much all the attractions except the circle visions. I do wish Maelstrom was still around but I like FEA.

I have eaten at almost all the restaurants and now I only eat at Spice Road Table or Chefs de France which are my favorites. I've walked thru all the shops a few times and seen the performers. I've pretty much done it all and the WS is the only part of WDW I can say that confidently about because there just isn't much there, especially given it's size. Maybe if I only went once a year a few gift shops and performers would be enough. But it's not.

Personally, I agree with you that it would be better if all the attractions were themed to the actual country rather than an IP. Like if they had built that Rhine river cruise in Germany or the Venetian gondola ride in Italy or Mount Fuji in Japan. But if we can't get that I'd prefer a Pinocchio ride to nothing and I bet the vast majority would agree.

And frankly, I think it's small minded to assume that all people who like something different than you are necessarily small minded. We just have a different opinion and are more able to adapt to change.

You should try to express your point of view without insulting people who disagree with you, which you've done in almost every post.

What is different about fantasyland or MGM style dark rides In Epcot?

See that's the problem, you for some reason are denying how repetitive that is. How many magic kingdoms are too many?

You can go as many times as you want, my millennial friend...I need a reason why such repition in such proximity is a good thing? Do even occasional visitors want more Omni-movers?

I give up with this thread. It's impossible to discuss various ideas and suggestions and what ifs with a petulant 5 year old that cannot get over it not being all about what THEY specifically want and throws sand in the eyes of those that aren't playing by their rules.

Well...this thread was repeated for two years when the frozen idea was hatched. So there's the context.

But...and this is being shoved under the rug...How are fantasyland style rides appropriate for Epcot? Do you believe in the theme park? If so, what's the theme of Epcot? (there are two...neither is the same as magic kingdom).

From a longterm perspective...what is the danger to the business to attach all their rides to a 20th century slate of films that are repetitive? These are not little things. And they are outside of the general context what to do with Epcot? Because they are not going to continue - it appears. Fantasyland with beer? That's the solution? That's a hard rampart to defend...

Perhaps they need a longterm strategic plan like DCA to change many of the details? Not just plug in showbuildings and "sorta cultural" fairytales?

The implication that this has not been discussed/thought out for a long time by many on this board is "far from correct". Welcome to the party.

The original Figment is what I'd like to see the most.
THIS times a million. I seriously thought a about starting a petition. I don't know how the merchandising dollars figment rakes in aren't cluing them in that they should utilize him more.
If people researched the history of saludos amigos and 3 caballeros in context...it would make a lot more sense to people

(And Horizons too!)

Our family happens to like Mexico, but then I have a 3 year old. It's low wait, colorful, relaxing and kiddo giggles through the entire thing.

I would've loved to see Epcot in its glory with world of motion and horizons as well as the original figment.
The new tron like overlay of Test Track gives a tiny nod to the style of the futuristic room at the end of World of Motion which was beautiful. It's a shame out of the audiotronic rides we were left with Spaceship Earth which was probably the weakest of them all. (But don't let them know that.....I couldn't bare to have another piece of childhood gone!!)

.

They destroyed much of the original ride space to build more queue for the awful replacement ride. One of the biggest miscalculations in WDI history...

The complete collapse of Kodak - one of their best sponsors - didn't help either.

Imagination from 1985-1995 was the best that Disney had to offer...now it's gone and I'd almost rather they close it than run nonsense films and rides and try to sell timeshares out of it.

Though I do love some horizons...that was the one that destined to go because it was a dated concept almost immediately. Part of the nostalgia for horizons was dissatisfaction with mission space. It's just not for everyone. And we don't really have a space program to pay for garbage...so there's that downer too.

But the swath of destruction has not been kind behind it...

Wonders of life is more relevant now than ever with the advancements of medical technology. But no sponsor? Dump it.

Imagination is just sad...nothing more to say there.

Soarin is a solid ride...but that combined with the recorded living with the land kinda throws that pavilion off as well.

It's quite clear to me that they have no desire to lift a finger to maintain the vision because they can't schlept off the costs anymore...
...and when that happens, the princess overlay is set.

Or even more stupidity like guardians of the galaxy in the energy pavilion. Nothing says "a world in energy crisis" (we are)...like spacemen with lasers.

Sort of, but when you remember the ride we still haven't achieved the kind of life in space, undersea and even in the desert the ride projected so it STILL would paint a futuristic sort of utopian vision today. It's kind of surprising really as so many other technological predictions in other rides and communicate did come to fruition.

I think the fact that Figment is on EVERYTHING for Festival of the Arts and F&G shows they're committed to the character. I really think that when they do the Epcot refurb they're going to redo that attraction right. That's my hope at least.

Although I do love the current Figment ride, believe it or not. I know it's bad and needs to be redone. I don't disagree with that. But I think it's still fun and well worth the 0 minute wait :)

Hey everyone!

Let's all take a deep breath and focus on the topic at hand. The rumor of an IP based attraction in England. It is a hot topic of whether IP should be in world showcase or not. What should not be discussed are things like where people live and what that has to do with anything.

Thanks.

I don't like the IP's in WS either. It is repetitive when the four parks were originally intended to each have their own theming and purpose. Of course those can change but why make them the same?

WS was meant to be a place where people could get a bit of a taste of particular countries. Arrendale is not a country. Besides this goes way beyond just adding an IP. Norway is pretty much gone and it could happen to the other countries. If you have no interest in other places that's fine but some others might.

I
I'd be fine with a Mulan ride in China. I think an Alice ride, or better yet Mr. Toad, would be great in the UK.

Mary Poppins is good in the UK, but Mr. Toad would be awesome...I so miss that ride...I used to beg my mom to ride it repeatedly...I know it used to be in Fantasyland, but Mr.Toad has also got some quintessential English roots.

Impressions de France might be great if you have never actually been to France, but for those of us who have, you quickly realize that the movie has about as much to do with actual France as the 3 caballeros have to do with actual Mexico. I.e. Not much at all.

A thousand times this. At first I thought it was that I hadn't been to that much of Mexico or France, now I definitely have. It represents those countries about the same the food at Liberty Inn represents the American culinary scene.

We like to spend 2 days at Epcot and never feel like it's enough. We go though in early December when the Christmas decorations are up and the storytellers are there. The kids really like the storytellers and getting their passports stamped.

No rides in WS please. If you want to ride something, go pretty much anywhere else. I hate they turned Norway into a make believe land. WS is my sanctuary from cattle stalls full of people.

I disagree with the no rides idea. A mixture of rides and movies to actually experience parts of these countries other than food and souvenir's would be much appreciated. However, I really don't want to see IP in EPCOT. Just one guys opinion.
