Biggest Loser 2009 - Couples 2

Don't know if you said this already but does it seem like this season is too focused on Bob and his team?
Last night seemed like the first time I saw Jill for then a few minutes.

Agree. I think Jillian's team is just too boring for the fans. I think she is better at handling the drama in her team.

She is pretty no nonense. If you are NOT pushing it after she breathes down your neck a few times, she will back off and cut you loose.

Bob seems to instigate some of it with his "game play". Like he ups the tension somehow.:confused3

OK so Joelle is delusional.

I was upset by the way the people there acted toward her as they voted her off.

I thought it was disgusting and cruel.:sad2:

My opinion of the some of those people went down big time.

I think the other contestants were disgusted at Joelle's LACK of understanding WHAT the Biggest Loser is all about...about an opportunity, a FREE opportunity to get yourself in shape. That is why they appeared to come off cruel. Joelle just (to me) did not seem to "get it". Carla gave Joelle that opportunity to stay on the BL campus when she went home. And week after week we see Joelle just "not into it at all". I agree with the others, they have all worked so hard and the results are visible on the SCALE. When after this many weeks and Joelle comes up w/o a loss....:sad2: I did not see one contestant hug Joelle at the end, everyone was hugging Carla. OH WELL!!!!

I felt sooo badly for Carla, I liked her from the FIRST show. And what was up with Joelle after the show, she still does NOT get it at all. A message to Carla, MOVE ON FROM HER!!! :thumbsup2

I noticed that right away too.

Granted Joelle didn't want to be there but the sudden lovefest for Carla was a bit too much.

I was trying to figure that one out. These people have spent 2 weeks with Carla but there was a month break in between those two weeks and they were fawning over her like love sick puppies. I know they spend a lot of time together and I really liked her, as well, but the gushing seemed sooooooo over the top. "I love you so much......you know I think you are the greatest........I will miss you so much" :scared: :crazy2:

I actually work with someone very much like Joelle. When confronted, she just totally shuts down and disengages from the situation. I think it is her way of protecting herself. In my coworker's situation, I think it was due to an abusive past. I see so much of her reactions in how Joelle reacts. She just keeps repeating the same things over and over. She is saying them to convince herself even when they are obviously not true. Psychologically, she cannot deal with the reality of the situation and retreats somewhere inside of herself. She has a lot of issues to deal with and her weight is only one of them. I am surprised that the Biggest Loser therapists didn't screen her out.

Now for my real question....

I remember from Week 1 that the Brown Dad had gastric bypass surgery and gained back all his weight in spite of that. Is it common for people in that situation to struggle even more with weight loss? I am wondering if there is a medical reason for his seemingly slow progress. Does anyone know?

I think it was meant to make Joelle feel worse. We hate YOU :furious: but we love HER:love:. Very immature and not funny at all.

I was actually thinking that they would like Carla enough to keep her around even if it meant the Joelle would tag along. Brown Team has had every opportunity and still does nothing with it. Carla never really even had a chance. Then again, Brown Team annoys me so maybe I was just projecting.

I think I was the only person on the planet who still felt sorry for Joelle. She just seemed so ... lost. She could not open herself up to the hurt and disappointment and was so closed. It made me really sad.

I thought the same thing. I like Brown team okay, but I am tired of that dad getting weepy about his son and how much he needs to be there. If they get kicked off, that dad had better do whatever it takes at long last to help that kid be successful.

I was at times a bit disgusted with Joelle but also disgusted with the petty way they voted her off with frowny faces and writing her name in huge letters. I have to say at times I thought that if I were in Joelle's place, I woudl have been the same. Bob screaming at her while the whole gym grins and giggles, Carla getting in her face, I think Joelle had so much bad Karma around her, she just couldn't hack it. So while I think Joelle didn't necessarily have the same committment, she also didn't have one bit of support from anyone. She worked her butt off to bring Carla back. And during the reunion, I knew when she sat down and got very attiudey with Joelle, that was it for them. It's sad that a friendship was ruined. I guess its better they are gone, too much hostility and it took away from what they were all supposed to be doing. I wonder if Joelle will even show up on the finale.

Philppe drank a ton of water, and when he started doing his little dance on the scale, I was ready to slap him. And when that yellow team girl got on Joelle about the scale not lying, I guess she forgot about her own issues with that very thing.

But I still like all of these people better than last year. No Icky Vicky and Heba to make things even more dramatic.

I wonder about Joelle's past too. She seems very beaten down by life. The way she looks down and just zones out is so sad. Frankly, Carla didn't endear herself to me with the way she would scream at Joelle. Yes, Joelle's lack of effort got them off the show. But Carla's way of life got her to the point of being the size she is. Now that Joelle is out of her picture, who will she blame if she isn't successful?

Brown team dad has all sorts of mobility issues and he's like 54, so he can't work out to the extent the other contestants do. He has spent decades being over 400 pounds from what I've gathered and its taken a toll.

Not sure how common it is for gastric bypass patients to gain back. I know Carnie Wilson has gained some of her weight back, and on Lifetime's show Dietribe, one of the girls (Morgan) had gastric bypass and gained it all back. She was the heaviest girl on the show. But she also lost the most weight.

I know what you are saying about Joelle being a crappy contestant, but their behavior was freaking ignorant to me.:sad2:

They sat there and "gushed over" Carla just to spite Joelle.
Please, like they loved Carla. They were just being cruel to Joelle.

Kicking someone when they are down is just not right. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

I wonder what would have happened to Joelle if she would have had Jilian for a trainer? Like others have said there is something sad about her. And I don't think Carla was all that great, we saw 2 weeks of her thats it. I like the Pink mom boy she has way more in her than I thought.

I so agree! Yes, she was sort of a crappy contestant. But then she also got treated a bit crappy. A lof of them hated her for when she thought about taking the money and just leaving, way back in episode one or two. I bet she wishes she would have done that! I mean come on, nobody on that show but Joelle thought about taking that money and running away with it?

I also think that everyone's already negative attitude (and I think some of it was deserved) went even further south when Bob stood there screaming obscenities at her. Okay, he was frustrated. But he should have gone about that very differently. When you have someone who is as beaten down and messed up as Joelle, yelling, screaming, ignoring and berating her is a sure way to send her down even further. They all did that, Bob very much included. I also wonder if her outcome might have been different if Jillian had been her trainer. Remember last season when Michelle almost quit? Jillian didn't give up on her and who won! They showed Bob talking to her once, the rest of the time well Joelle was just a mystery to him.

When she walked out alone while everyone else engaged in the Carla Love Fest, to me it was a sad testimony to who those people are. I couldn't help but think that Dan and the older couple would have at least told her goodbye and wished her well.

It sort of made me lose respect for all of them quite frankly. I mean none of those people got to that ranch because they had all the answers. JMHO.

I think that Jillian would have had a better chance of getting to the bottom of what was holding Joelle back. She seems to have a knack of being able to reach her contestants on a personal level.

Agree, agree, agree. :thumbsup2 Thank goodness too, I thought I was alone in feeling like I do.:lmao:

And yes Jillian would have been a better match for her. She yells at everyone and if you don't measure up you are out on your can.

You are not alone at all. I think the editing of the Joelle character has been horrible (only showing her bad side). I also thought the Carla love fest was too much. But I absolutely would have voted that team off just to get rid of all the drama/yelling. Joelle shuts down in response to yelling. Carla yells even louder in response to the shut down. It was a horrible cycle that would have gone on forever. I think BOTH of them are better off out of that friendship.

Yep. I would also have voted them off.

Forcing them to meet for the show ending was stupid too.

I really hope BL can get back to picking people that really want to be there to lose weight.

I think they are looking for "stories" too much. In fact....stop picking couples. I don't get that.

I get the couples thing....you do better if you have somebody who supports you. Often we get derailed by people who think they are helping but really aren't. This way you've got, in most cases, somebody who understands and can be your :cheer2:

I don't know how bad I felt for Joelle to be honest. She seemed like she wanted to be removed from the bunch, so I sort of feel like some of it was self inflicted. Like she was going to do it her way or the highway. That's fine if it works, but she is only accomplishing so much at home because she hasn't lost that much. That is what everyone thought last week about David and they have lost about the same amount. I know it was stated that it wasn't obvious how committed David is, and I just feel the same about Joelle.

Obviously this is all edited, but they portrayed Joelle as very aloof and not part of the group. She didn't seem to care about saying goodbye to anyone either, so maybe it was just best for her and everyone else involved. Did they say at the beginning how long these two had been friends? It didn't seem like that deep of a friendship if she could just get up and walk away. I agree Carla shouldn't be screaming at her and that was disrespectful, but I would have given a "you scream again and I'm gone" speech and then would have stuck to that.

She just doesn't seem too into the whole changing your life, so I will be interested to see how her outcome will be. Maybe it will be ok for the show's end, but I wonder if it will be long term, actually I doubt it will be long term and that's incredibly sad.

Hwy HomeschoolMama ... my old eyes can't read your font color. There is not enough contrast on the screen. Sorry, but I'll have to skip your posts in the future if you don't use a different color :guilty:.

Thanks for the hint, but why should we have to do that? If someone wants me to read their posts then they need to post it in a color that I can read.
Feel free to ignore my posts. I don't think we'd get along anyway...

I agree with you.
I felt bad for Joelle. There must have been something going on with her. She must have low self-esteem to let Carla treat her that way. I'm betting she didn't feel like she "deserved" to lose weight and be successful.

I thought it was so hurtful for the other teams to write their cards out the way they did and to ignore her when it was time to leave. :guilty:
