Yup, I used amethyst and light amethyst for the purples, and then blue zircon for the aqua/teal (I never know what to call it, LOL). I'm not 100% sure, but I think Swarovski makes lilac crystals, too, which might go better with a victorian lilac. I'm not sure ... if you have a swatch of your victorian lilac, you might want to take it with you to Michael's or a bead shop to see what you think.
I bought all my crystals from
www.rhinestoneshop.com Shipping is incredibly fast and always free, and his selection and prices are the best I could find on bulk Swarovski crystals.
You could use a Hotfix tool on shoes if you wanted to ... I used Aleene's Jewel-It glue. I've used a Hotfix for t-shirts, though. To use one, you choose the tip that is one size smaller than the crystals you are using (you need to make sure you buy the Hotfix rather than the normal crystals), let the tool heat up, and then place it over the crystal, color side up. The tool will pick up the crystal, heat the glue on the back of it, and then you hold the tip against the spot where you want the crystal to sit. It's really easy!
I prefer the glue to the tool in most cases, though. It's very strong and easy to fix something if you accidentally put a crystal in the wrong spot. Plus I always worry about damaging delicate material with the heat tool, though I know there are a couple of brides who've had really good luck with using them on satin shoes.
