Disney's Long Term DVC Strategy

The management fee is what is used to manage the program for us. It pays the cost if MS, account and part of membership administration.

It pays for running the website, etc and all the elements of DVC.

The operating experiences are for running the resorts so the management of the program is not part of that.

Just want to clarify so people don’t think that operating expenses are what pay for the DVC side of things.

So, a resale owner does not pay anything toward the funds that DVD uses to pay for all the membership extras.

Those strictly come out of the marketing budget of DVD, which is funded off of direct sales.
This is very interesting and I did not know that. This makes the fact that membership extras aren’t given to resale even more reasonable than I thought it was before.

That is the sole reason that they can do it. Membership extras are incidental benefits and those can’t be paid for by dues.

FL timeshare law even says they can’t and why they must be something thst has to be offered as voluntary.

That would probably be a lawsuit if resale people were paying for member benefits monthly that they weren't being given i would imagine

I just wanted to be clear because every so often it gets mentioned and some do not realize that membership extras do not and cannot be paid for by dues.

Obviously, prior to 2016, they didn’t distinguish, but the benefits were not as good then either…

Now, as the membership has grown, it makes sense it going to be for a select group of owners.

I, personally, welcome any and all enhancements, even if they won’t impact me!

I think its nice they give resale the discount on the app. It's kind of like them doing something nice for resale without saying it so others dont get upset 🤣🤣

I think you also said resale can participate in some cruise line events which is also nice, but at the end of the day they are a business and need to differentiate their direct product from resale to boost sales due to the significant price difference.

Giving direct a higher tier of benefits is a good and legal way for them to do this

I think the resale discount in the app is 100% sloppy coding and it's not affecting enough of the bottom line to recode/correct.

There was a time when CMs were allowing Sorcerer pass activations/sales for resale members not really knowing the difference. Now DVC Sorcerer renewals require calling Member Services for eligibility verification. I guess enough people complained or renewals were getting out of hand for non-eligible members.

I can see that as being the reason too. It just not being that big of a deal enough to fix it because other things like MMB are def not on the website for resale )not sure if it is for direct) and of course the blocked hotels for resale. That's why I was like they could fix it they just dont for whatever reason. I already experienced cms myself not knowing the difference of what resale and direct can get which i found kinda crazy that I knew morw cuz they deal with both members daily im sure. But I am also on Disboards where everyone know everything 🤣🤣

I don’t think it’s that way to give it to resale as much as it has been not worth trying to get the programming correct to try to distinguish it for mobile check out.

My DD used to be a cast member and her account will stay show that as an option, even though she left in 2020!

Oh wow then yes now I believe they are def just choosing to ignore the issue 🤣

Yes, there is still the final step of having a CM scan your QR code and offering to bag up your items. Depending on the store, they are either positioned well (right at the exit, as you would expect) or some random place in the middle of the store (I'm looking at you. World of Disney). Either way, the signage seems to have improved compared to last year.

I think for someone buying multiple items, it feels stressful. I have to stop to the side, place all my stuff down, individually scan every item, pick them back up again, and walk to the mobile checkout area only to have to pull up a QR code while juggling holding everything. Since there are no defined areas to stop and scan your items, in a crowded store I often feel like I am just in the way of people browsing. 🤷‍♀️ For one item though, it is usually a better experience.
I just did mobile purchase at World of Disney last week. They have it set up right next to the door and have signs all over the place with a QR code if you wanted to do it as you walk around. I opted to just carry all my items over to their mobile purchase zone and do the whole thing there. It was rather similar to self checkout at a grocery store. They had bags and tissue available right there. I set down my items at the self checkout stand and scanned each item in as I dropped it in the bag. Then when I was done, it printed a receipt that I took over to the castmember and they marked the receipt and we left. Super easy and no hassle at all. What I didn't realize until later was that it gave me the DVC discount. I hadn't looked at the receipt until we got home a couple days later, but it was a nice $30+ savings.

Do you know if the discount is 10 or 20%?

The 20% DVC discount is WDW, not DL. DL has a 10% DVC discount. Weren't you at DL last week?
I was but I didnt know about the mobile shopping discount. We went to the register and got the 10% Disney Visa discount, but your saying the DLR DVC merchandise on the mobile app discount is 10% too?

You don't get a special mobile shopping discount. You get a discount for your linked affiliations which would be the same if you checked out at a register and showed you Magic Mobile pass, AP/MK, etc. The app doesn't increase your discount tier in any way.

If @juliebee got a 20% discount at World of Disney with a DVC discount using mobile checkout it was at WDW's World of Disney in Disney Springs, not DL's World of Disney in DTD. The only 20% merchandise discount that would automatically apply at DL is the Inspire Key discount which is 20%.

Resale doesn't get a discount at the register, but they get one on the mobile app because it recognizes us as DVC at DLR. I dont know if it does that at WDW because I haven't gone there yet as DVC. I like to know all the discounts that I can potentially get and how much jic one is better than the other cuz now I have ap, dvc thru app, and chase disney.

Good to know. Was this DL or WDW? I meant DL but I haven’t used it in a few months.

I understand that, and yes, it works like that in My Disney Experience as well. Resale will have it automatically applied in the app even though it's considered a "membership extra." Same thing if you mobile order table service to go at the resorts. 10% will automatically be applied in My Disney Experience.
