I missed it because I was crying myself. Two little girls suffering like that and I'm sitting in my lovely townhome without a job wondering if someone will read my stupid resume. In the meantime I survive on eBay and getting my laughs with you guys.

It's stuff like that that reminds us of how BLESSED we all are...

Something is funky about an album -- any album -- that only sells 400 copies. Something went wrong, and you can tell, from just watching her perform on AI, that it wasn't Carly. Any one of the top twelve, under any normal set of circumstances, would have sold more than 400 copies of an album they made. No album will go anywhere without the proper airplay or marketing. Someone dropped the ball there.

Just for the record, and it is well documented on the net...

Carly was billed as the next Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera when she released her album. Unfortunately, record stations thought the songs were terrible and refused to play any of them on the air, despite the fact that her record label did push the album to them. Kelly Clarkson later recorded one of the songs that was being pushed as a single by Carly on one of her albums. (See the link below) Despite that, in 2003, Carly was voted Best Irish Female Singer at the Irish version of the Grammies.

Kristy Lee Cook has also recorded an album. I know that Britney Spears was backing her at one point.

For this year, I'd really like to see it come down to David Cook and Brooke. I just like their performances week after week. It won't though. This competition is David Archuleta's to lose. It's like the kids who voted for Sanjaya last year are pushing him now, except DA's actually pretty good.

I find myself pulling for KLC just because she's such an underdog. She actually does seem to have gotten better in the last few weeks, though.

If I could have it my way, Carly would have gone home weeks ago. I just don't like her. Maybe it's because she blamed her record's failure on Sept 11th.

That would make a lot of sense. One of the best modern musicals is Children of Eden, by Stephen Schwartz. However, it debuted in London just after the beginning of the first Gulf War, and as a result the show never received the attention it deserved.

Album sales were down 5% in the first half of 2001. It was really the beginning of the whole internet downloading business (remember kazaa and napster?). Then sales went down another 6% in 2002. Doesn't sound like a good time to be starting a career. However, that was also around the time that Alicia Keys, Dido, India.Arie, Nelly Furtado and Linkin Park made their debuts and they did just fine.

Hard to figure out exactly what went wrong but something certainly did.

oh for pity's sake...NO.

We can have a hundred threads about Obama and 600 about nothing else I give a crap about... we can have two threads about AI. What we need to do is step back and stop sniping at one another. That's totally unnecessary.

I can only speak for myself, but I didn't step foot into any AI thread until today. This thread was on page one. It was as simple as that.

Nobody possesses threads. I've enjoyed posting on here today. I'm not one to be able to keep up with mega threads and the reason why, is due to the off-topic banter. I appreciate that people make friends and threads go off-topic, but if this thread was intended to cut down on that and make AI the main focus, then I'd like to keep it around.

I don't say that because I have any issues with the other thread. Just that after knowing why this thread was created (at least I think I know), this is more my speed.

Nope, keep this thread. I would occasionally pop into the other thread and was enjoying it. It was just getting too hard to find the good AI stuff due to the chattiness. I have nothing against that thread, I'm just enjoying this one more because it's not chatty. I'm glad to see that a group of people are getting friendly over there. I'm part of a mega-thread, so I understand the friendships forming there. I'm just sorry it's causing friction.
