American Idol Thread

oh for pity's sake...NO.

We can have a hundred threads about Obama and 600 about nothing else I give a crap about... we can have two threads about AI. What we need to do is step back and stop sniping at one another. That's totally unnecessary.

This thread is going fine... leave it be, happygirl ... and we can all start actiing like your username!!! :goodvibes

ITA

I have absolutely nothing against the other thread. I actually went there first today (can't chat live since most folks are in a different time zone, and I recorded and watched late yesterday anyway) but after scrolling through 3 pages and finding very few AI posts I gave up.

This thread is moving quickly too - but it's all AI stuff. :thumbsup2

Interesting info on the Carly album. If Randy was a VP at her label and they sunk that much money into a release that bombed, he had to be familiar with her.
Now I wish I wouldn't have deleted the audition shows. I'd love to go back and watch her first couple of appearances before the judges.

I just want to join in on this thread. I am entirely taken with Jason Castro. I just love the emotion in his songs. I have bought Hallelujah and Travelin' Thru and the studio version of the later is fantastic. And for some reason I never really listened to Hallelujah until he sang it on AI even though I had heard it on both the OC and Shrek. He is not one of those big, belting it out type of singers but that is why I like him. I think that some singers seem to use those high notes just to show that they can. Like I read somewhere, "just because you have ketchup, it doesn't mean that you have to put it on everything you eat". Music can be at its best when it is quiet and heartfelt.

As far as the dreadlocks, I was never a fan of hair like that but Jason's eyes are so beautiful that I don't think that I ever get past them.

Just my 2 cents, I know everyone has their favorite.

Remember she also tried out two years ago and made it to Hollywood but her visa expired or something like that. So this year's audition shows wouldn't have shown any surprise.

I have no problem with her being here. She definitely can sing and has followed the rules of the show.

OT- I want to know if you guys want me to have the moderators delete this thread It seems to have caused alot of trouble with the other AI thread
The only purpose of this thread was to talk strictly about AI, if that not what you guys want I will have the moderators delete it you guys can Pm if you want to talk about it privately

Leave it...its fine....I didnt mean to get all excited about it to begin with....Its all goo and I have been reading both and everyone is welcome to come post and comment on anythng that strikes there fancy in the other board...I call The AI thread Lite

Oh I don't know about that... I ventured over to the Idol Forums to check out the David Cook threads and the things people were saying were really sad :lmao: These people act like they're either the guy's long lost lover or that they're a part of his family. It's one thing to say "Holy crap, he's hot and I love his voice!" (:rotfl:) but it's a completely different story for people to say that they'd die if he had a girlfriend or to talk about his mom and siblings like they've been friends forever.

Here was one of the posts made when people found out David was sick on Tuesday night... "At least you got some sleep. I didn't sleep at all. All I could do was post and cry, post and cry, all night long, then drink about a gallon of coffee just so I could go about my other business this morning." Sure I felt bad and I really hoped he was OK but :scared: That's TOO MUCH!

No offense if it was any of you who posted that :lmao:

I swear it wasn't me. :) I started reading one of his threads and realized there is at least one poster who is totally making up stuff. Also, beware of the after dark threads. That was really creepy.

While the other thread is the AI Lite thread. :rotfl:

Just kidding!

Back to on-topic....

I think with a producer Jason Castro could have a career as well. I think the real question for folks like him, though, is whether or not he's willing to bend a bit to be commercial. If you don't want to be commercial, it may be that you just have to face not being commercial, i.e., not have a career. Sometimes you get lucky; you're able to stick to what you want and still manage to have a career, but I suspect that is mostly the case when what you want happens to be commercial.

I had no idea that Randy was VP at Carly first label. Um things that make you go um

I think that is why I didn't like her at first, then her strange facial expressions sealed the deal. I try really hard to like her; I just can't.

I don't think he is a commercial singer in the true sense. I agree with whomever (was it Simon?) it was that said he's a coffee shop singer. That's exactly what he is to me...he has a nice voice, but no personality and he certainly isn't amazing. :upsidedow

It is funny how people see things differently. I think he has the most personality out of all of them. His interviews are hilarious, his ramblings are funny and his expressions are definitely animated.

He just needs to pick better songs that connect more with the audience. To me, he is very John Mayer like.

I agree with Damo. I think Jason has tremendous appeal and I think his music is very commercial. In addition to his performances selling well on Itunes, his version of Hallelujah lit a fire under Jeff Buckley's version on Itunes and after performing Travelin Thru on Tuesday night, Dolly's version became the number one download on the folk genre. To me this shows that not only are people noticing his music, they are willing to pay for it. If you like his style of music, do yourself a favor and purchase Jason's Travelin Thru. The studio version is about 5 minutes long and sounds even better than the show performance.

I have my I Tunes opening up right now to do just that! I bought his Hallelujah also, and I never get tired of listening to it. I also have his version of Daydream from the first week of the top 24, that I think is fantastic. I agree that he has the most personality of the contestants. I don't think he will win, but I think he could be very successful. I will for sure by his CD when he records one.

Does anyone know what they hype with David A father is?? I heard that on the today show they were talking about it

He's just supposed to be a very over-powering stage Dad. The tabloids have said that he is using his son to try and make himself rich but who knows.

If that true that poor kid, there enough pressure on him without his dad making it worse

I read somewhere--who can remember where at this point--that his father actually began "pimping" David out at age 10 and was actually paying the family's housing expenses with money the kid had made. If that's true, that's so sad.

I really feel sorry for the kid. While he's not my favorite Idol, I kind of hope he wins for two reasons. 1. He'd probably benefit the most from the Idol "treatment" of all the contestants. For others it'd be a hindrance and 2. If he doesn't win, I'm scared that his crazy father might lock him in a room and feed him through a hole in the door. :scared1:

Off the David A. topic...
I watched American Idol Extra on Fox Reality Network last night, where they had the requisite exit interview with Ramiele. (Her family, especially her sister, really looked like they didn't want to be there. :confused3 ) Believe me, that was FAR from the highlight. Ace Young was interviewed and then performed his single, "Addicted" with his band. OMG! That boy is HOT!!! He's been working out also. He just looks fantastic! I will stop drooling now. :faint:
