American Idol Thread

I read somewhere--who can remember where at this point--that his father actually began "pimping" David out at age 10 and was actually paying the family's housing expenses with money the kid had made. If that's true, that's so sad.

I really feel sorry for the kid. While he's not my favorite Idol, I kind of hope he wins for two reasons. 1. He'd probably benefit the most from the Idol "treatment" of all the contestants. For others it'd be a hindrance and 2. If he doesn't win, I'm scared that his crazy father might lock him in a room and feed him through a hole in the door. :scared1:

Off the David A. topic...
I watched American Idol Extra on Fox Reality Network last night, where they had the requisite exit interview with Ramiele. (Her family, especially her sister, really looked like they didn't want to be there. :confused3 ) Believe me, that was FAR from the highlight. Ace Young was interviewed and then performed his single, "Addicted" with his band. OMG! That boy is HOT!!! He's been working out also. He just looks fantastic! I will stop drooling now. :faint:

Hope someone puts in on youtube!

I checked over there. There wasn't anything up yet, although there are a couple of performances by Ace of "Addicted" at some local radio stations if anyone would like to hear the song.

I posted that. I was so scared he wouldnt notice me if his girlfriend was there.....:rotfl2:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: You crack me up!

I agree with Damo. I think Jason has tremendous appeal and I think his music is very commercial. In addition to his performances selling well on Itunes, his version of Hallelujah lit a fire under Jeff Buckley's version on Itunes and after performing Travelin Thru on Tuesday night, Dolly's version became the number one download on the folk genre. To me this shows that not only are people noticing his music, they are willing to pay for it. If you like his style of music, do yourself a favor and purchase Jason's Travelin Thru. The studio version is about 5 minutes long and sounds even better than the show performance.

I love Jason! And I do think he has a LOT of appeal. Not all musicians need to be commercial in the sense of being overly produced and packaged. Most of my favorite artists are independent and do their own thing and have their own style of music. Take Paolo Nutini for instance. I LOVE his voice, his album's absolutely amazing, and he's sold out venues and festivals all over the world. He's a singer/songwriter (what a lot of people would consider to be a "coffee house" performer) so his music is deep and heartfelt yet not over the top. He's from Scotland yet he was able to pave his own way all over the world. With a platform like American Idol, as long as Jason can keep his music heartfelt and "real" I don't think he'll have a problem :confused3

Here's two of my favorite Paolo songs, they remind me a lot of Jason's style:

Love me some Paolo Nutini :lovestruc

This is the feeling I got about him from the first time I saw him sing that ridiculous song to the Season one contestants.. the boy is like a wind up doll. He is so pageanty, like someone put him up to this and he's in a total state of shock.

And all that screaming???? Back when I was in high school someone like that would be screamed AT not screamed FOR...
NERD.gif

On the other hand, people like David C., Jason and even Chikezie look like they designed and decided on every move they made despite anything their family or anyone said. It's just IN them. Sorry, I can smell fake across a room... :scared:

You know, the thing about David A is that he just looks and acts like the kid that's not very popular in school. Every time I hear all those girls scream, I just think to myself...his old schoolmates are sitting there thinking "They're screaming for that dork?"

On Idol Tonight last week they asked all the guys what they did with their first paycheck. Michael bought clothes, Chikezie bought video games, David C. and Jason put money towards their cars, and David A... paid for his grandma's rent. He said that he got his first paycheck winning the child's division of a Utah talent competition and his grandma was struggling so they used his money to pay the rent. I said this in the other AI thread but I'll say it again. I'm all for family and helping each other out, but that's wrong in so many ways. I could see them putting the money away for college or saving it in a bank account for when he was older, but "pimping" out your kid in talent competitions just to take away the prize and use it to support the family is really, really sad and there's definitely something wrong with that :confused3

He just seems like a nice band kid to me. Lots of girls like that type.:)

Remember she also tried out two years ago and made it to Hollywood but her visa expired or something like that. So this year's audition shows wouldn't have shown any surprise.

I have no problem with her being here. She definitely can sing and has followed the rules of the show.

OK, I do remember them mentioning the visa thing. I'm sure a lot of the contestants have had some exposure in the music world before hitting the AI auditions. Not a big deal for me as long as AI doesn't become a competition full of folks who have already tried and failed at the recording thing. I like seeing raw, undiscovered talent getting a chance as well.

Along those lines... I was blown away by David A's performance of Imagine. But when I saw the you tube video of him doing the exact same arrangement on a local TV show years earlier I have to admit I felt just a tiny bit cheated.
I guess I picture all the contestants having only a week to work out what they're going to do on the next show... not just brushing up something they've done previously.
Not asking much from them, am I? ;)

I'll have to check that out. I still remember Ace doing Father Figure!
One of the HOTTEST performances ever on AI if you ask me.

Awwwwww..... thanks, I missed that, too. I just went over the part on my DVR and saw Mike hand Dave the tissue. I think I'm going to DIE.. I love seeing REAL MEN CRY!

I missed it because I was crying myself. Two little girls suffering like that and I'm sitting in my lovely townhome without a job wondering if someone will read my stupid resume. In the meantime I survive on eBay and getting my laughs with you guys.

It's stuff like that that reminds us of how BLESSED we all are...:sad1:
Robin ~ Why is it that I can relate to everything you post? I love to see real men cry also...let's me know they have heart. I was crying my eyes out when they showed the little girl looking for her sister. I was so happy that they found each other! We are truly blessed!

RE: David A ~ I feel sorry for the kid. I sure hope that the path he has taken have been his choices and not just his family's (Dad's). He seems like a sweet kid, but one that could be taken advantage of.

LOL.. GMTA! :thumbsup2

Seriously, my Dad...who btw will always be my HERO, would cry at the drop of a dime. He was a quiet, STRONG, man with strong family values... and he cried whenever he saw something happy or sad. :sad1: One tear would just fall down his face and he'd never change his expression.

Seeing David, KNOWING he's a rocker and a GUY, crying on nationwide television without caring about his image, tells me VOLUMES about this guy. If I was his Mom, I'd be sooooo proud. :lovestruc

::yes:: I totally agree!

Since I am his STALKER... I mean if I was a stalker.... I'd be even more in

I was thinking the exact same thing!!

I've always loved that song, but when Ace sang it was just HOT!!!!

I think David A is adorable
Im old enough to be his mom and by a very long stretch his grandma
I would have loved him in HS
He has that clean cut/sweet look
Hes polite and respectful
He would be the type that you want to introduce to your parents
And I love his voice
I also like David C and MJ and Brooke
The rest dont do too much for me

From the nose up David A. resembles Zac Efron... THAT'S why the girls are screaming! For the record, I don't get the whole Zac Efron thing. And don't even get me started on Ace...:headache: I'm just not into the pretty boys I guess :lmao:

I have a silly question for my fellow AI fans. After the conversation about DC being a messy roommate on Wednesday's show, it would appear that David C, Jason Castro and Michael are all roommates. That leaves David A without a roommate. Does he have a room just for himself? I wonder if they think he is too young to be in a room with the other guys.

He has to be with his dad since he's underage so they probably have their own apartment.
