$31 rental for a double stroller.

You were suggesting by this post that the mom with twins was somehow more deserving of the double strollers. Which is silly.

We are not going to change anyone's mind on who should and shouldn't have a stroller. And quite frankly the only thing I am coming away with it is a desire to hit someone with mine, should I see them shooting me looks for having one. Toodles!

No I said it is a shame IF a single mom with twins park hopped and was not able to get a stroller because so many families with just one kid rent the double. The price increases could possibly decrease those that do this and allow more available to families with multiple young kids who want to park hop during the afternoon/night. That is all. I won't comment on the rest of your reply because it doesn't relate to topic.

Yes, strollers are "first come first serve", as are seats on the bus. But once you're on the bus and in a seat, if someone comes on who is more in need of a seat than I am (an elderly person, a mom with a baby, etc , I can get up and give them my seat, as can my children. Not so with strollers. When our kids got old enough to no need strollers (but would say they wanted one, at age 7 or 8) I'd explain that since we didn't need them, we'd leave them for the people who do and explain what it would be like for someone with smaller kids (reminding them how they used to be) if they got to the park and none where left. Granted, we almost always travel in busy times of year so this could really happen.
I'm sure most people here feel the same but I think we all must acceptt that there are people who don't.

well said :thumbsup2

I am one person Disney will loose money on over this...I just booked my sit and stand double stroller through A Baby's Best Friend for my trip this month. With tax I will pay $83.46 vs $162 with Disney.:thumbsup2

I agree with your overall viewpoint, and my views are generally at odds with the "stroller haters" (:rotfl: ... wow, they should get t-shirts or something!), but the point about a probable reduction in the sheer number of strollers may be a very valid point. I apologize for not giving credit where credit is due (sorry, I'm not going to scour through pages and pages ... you'll just have to be quietly proud of yourself :goodvibes ), but someone brought up the idea that the parents of 6 and 8 year olds, for example, wouldn't bother bringing their own stroller, and in fact might not even have one in working condition anymore. It is THESE people who might not bother with the huge expense of the double stroller, since it would be more of a convenience and less of a necessity. They might decide it's not worth it to spend that huge amount. THOSE are the people, the parents of school-age kids, who are unlikely to bring their own AND unlikely to rent.

So I concede that point, that there's a good possibility of a decrease in sheer numbers of strollers.

I have to agree with you. While I feel for families who feel their situation needs a stroller, this increase will probably make MORE double strollers available throughout the day to families who need them and are willing to pay for them.

$13 or whatever the old price was, it probably was worth the convenience for someone to decide, "Yeah, maybe we should get one since we're walking right by it." Those people will probably pass and a park won't run out of double strollers as quickly or at all.

As far as ECVs...it's the same thing. While I know it's not the norm, I have encountered people in the parks in an ECV, struck up a conversation only to have them tell me straight out that they didn't have any ailments, diseases or injuries...they rented the ECV so they wouldn't have to walk around the park and it would be faster to get from ride to ride. Disney is probably trying to prevent this type of thing as well so that the people who NEED the ECVs can actually rent one instead of them all being rented out for the day.

I know that doesn't help the out of pocket costs that people who need these items will incur. And I can see the potential problems. But I imagine that Disney probably did some sort of analysis before they made this decision and for some reason, they think this is going to fly. Time will tell, that's for sure.

Sadly, disney has to rent to everyone who wants and ECV, no matter what (according to law)... and as someone who needs a wheelchair in disney, the people who give ME a reputation as a faker (which i am not) cause they don't feel like walking (and would suffer nothing worse than tired feet if they did) annoy me more than you!

I do think the increase is an absurd amount, however the end result is simple for me because I do need a stroller for my 2 kids and I am budgeted for the amount they are the day before I get there (lucky us getting there the day after the increase), therefore I will be renting a double stroller, I just will be spending $50 less on souveniers. No problem, my loss is their loss and I will not complain a bit!

Didn't someone say they were emailing ABBF to see if they have a stroller for a larger child (over the 40lb weight limit)? Any news on that?

I did send WDW my thoughts on this. While DD has not been in a stroller in years, I know her limit and there is no way she will last all day on her feet. She is a very skinny 6 yr old and her feet turn inward when she walks. Because of this she gets tired easily and needs to get off her feet. I had no issues renting her a stroller and planned to on our big park days. And yes, I was planning on getting a double stroller for her. But now I am debating what we will do. We might just do a single stroller and pray she can still fit in it.

The points I made to Disney:
1) I can rent a car cheaper then a daily stroller rental and go off property to shop & eat. Lost revenue.
2) 2 Single strollers are cheaper than 1 double, more people may rent 2 singles causing a shortage.
3) More families bringing their own strollers, lost revenue from that. Plus more congestion on the Monorail & buses. It will not cut down the number of strollers still in the park.
4) More people will leave the parks earlier to go back to their rooms. Lost revenue from concessions.

I think the biggest problem lies with the amount of the increase, not the increase itself.

And since it is cheaper to rent 2 singles, my family will now have 2 strollers to run over people's toes instead of the one double:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Just kidding, we are very careful with the strollers.

:rotfl2:

FWIW, here's what I think we've decided to do........bring the cheap $12- umbrella stroller (not that much of a pain at the airport or to fold up on buses) and rent a single for our middle child. Disney will not eliminate the # of strollers in the parks. People will find other solutions (rental companies too). We will not pay $31 a day for doubles but we do need a stroller for 2.....solution found.

STILL shaking my head about this price increase.

To everyone who is saying "if your 'older child' of six or seven gets tired why don't you just take a break.....that's what we do"....sounds so simple, right?

That's great if it works for you. ..but do you have any older children? Are they all happy & glad to sit and rest every time the little ones get tired or grumpy? I have a 12 year old who is ready, willing and able to go non-stop all day long. But the younger 2 are not able to do that.

So our solution has been get a stroller and keep going....let the older ones have fun and the younger ones can rest for a bit when necessary. Why this plan is offensive and outrageous to people on this board is beyond me. Whatever. I'm not asking you to put your kids in a stroller (and make them fat & lazy in the process, of course....:confused3 ) but I would appreciate it if you wouldn't think that your way of doing things is the best and only way, either.

You don't use them and I will......DEAL?????.....:thumbsup2

And yes, the price increase is ridiculous. If they follow through with it then we will probably put off Disney trips for a while. We enjoy Universal just as much and the prices there are much more reasonable. And the parks are not so huge. So again...we'll find a solution that works for our family and not expect everyone else to abide by our decisions, lol.

WE got a double last year for our 2 year old because he just didn't want to sit in the single, he felt to confined. It also helped with putting the backpack on so we didn't have to carry it. But at $27.00 a day for the length of stay is crazy. He is now 3 and likes to walk but we will bring our umbrella stroller this year as it doesn't take up alot of room and he can use it when he does get tired of walking. I will not pay $216.00 for the 8 days that we will be there. I can buy a brand new stroller for that price and still have money left over.

I really am just curious. Some of you are posting who have perfectly healthy 8 year olds, and you're mad about the hike in stroller prices. Do they really get THAT tired at 8 that they can't walk?! Don't you go back to the resort and rest at all?

What about the parents of older children that stay off site and find going back to their hotel difficult?

I completely agree with you. We have a 13 year old who can go the whole day. My 8 year old probably can go the whole day too.....But my son will get tired out and cranky if I make him walk all day. (Especially in the Florida summer heat) We get a stroller so he can jump in and rest when he needs to and we avoid the whole cranky I'm tired complaint all together. I'm not going to Disney to spend huge amounts of time in the room.... if renting a stroller can help us have a happy vacation with the adults who can last longer and the younger kids who can't then thats what we are going to do.

One solution could be to buy two single umbrella strollers (cheapies at Babies R Us, $19.99 each) and then either use them separately or buy the connectors to make them into a double. I know it won't work for everyone, but it's an idea...

I'm guessing the rise in the cost comes from those guests who are severely annoyed at the amount of strollers, especially double strollers, in the park that are used by perfectly healthy children who could walk.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I mean that nicely not sarcastically because I was you about 6 yrs ago.
what I call BC .... before children....
It was an amazing awakening...

Nothing can prepare your kids for the excitement of Disney, if you are lucky enough to live in a warm climate and they can play out doors at least their strength is a bit better, but for us New Englanders, we parents are barely in shape enough during the winter do takle the task... We used to go for walks in the malls, but quite honestly the window displays at many of the stores are NOT appropriate for a 2 and 4 yr old girls...

They are so overwhelmed with all the larger than life stimulation, that the expereince is physically, mentally and emotionally tiring for them. This is not a bad thing it's wonderful, but a trip back to a resort or hotel is MUCH different, time consuming and TIRING with children.

And then their are the big children, DH, I highly doubt that once we got him back to the hotel, he would make it back out again... for the adult's there is power in the momemtum... it keeps us going..

of course all kids are different, (just like adults) as mentioned above even in the same family... and should not be expected to all have the same enduarnce..

why they raised the prices,, We can speculate all we want, but people will just buy one instead of renting ... the cost of a cab to walmart to get water, a stroller and other misc items will then really be justified...

As for more strollers than ever.. I worked at small world in the mid 80's. One of our rotation's was what we called "stroller H_ _ L" What a task. Where there a lot Yaaaaa!!! I really don't think that proportionally, the use of stollers has increased to a much different rate than the increase in guests or children. :confused3

thanks for asking nicely :goodvibes and getting educated before making judgements.. of course you may still not agree with it, but you got input first:goodvibes

This is a great suggestion for those who have little ones. I've heard nothing but great things about them!

One question though, do you happen to know if they have options for kids over the 40/45 lb. weight limit? My 5 yr old is over that but I think there will be times that he'll need a stroller.

Thanks!

I used ABBF for a stroller when my kids were 1, 3 & 4. I brought my own double for the older 2 and rented a single for the youngest. I just couldn't handle another stroller in the airport. I've also rented a crib & toddler bed from them and had very good service from them but I don't think they carry strollers for over 45 pounds.

I just bought my youngest a 2007 MacLaren Volo for $75 (includes shipping) from www.babye-store.com The Volo will hold up to 55 pounds. The 2007 comes with a rain cover. I know my DD would have been complaining on the long walk back to the Pop bus stop.

I took my DS for a whirlwind trip for his 7th birthday in Jan. We went from early entry morning til closing or almost closing most nights. I did rent a stroller for him a few days. He fit in a single just fine.

ABBF has a Sit N Stand double stroller that holds a COMBINED weight of 80 lbs. It's perfect when you have 1 child who is still 'stroller age' and one slightly older. I just booked one. It will cost $83 with tax.

I bet the offsite rental places for ECV's, strollers, and even wheelchairs, are thrilled about this.

They're like "Hey Disney, thanks for your business dude! One up for the little guy!!! WOOOOHOOOO!":cool1: :woohoo: :cool1: :woohoo:

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked up the website and the stroller and found that the 2007 Volo only holds a child up to 33 lbs. There was a 2006 model but no mention of weight limit on it.
