$31 rental for a double stroller.

I just keep coming back to this point again.......Even for those people who ARE willing to fork out the $31 a day, what will WDW do to deter the OBVIOUS fact that people will start stealing other people's rented strollers? We've had this happen a few times over the years already. I know you can get another w/ your receipt, but it's a big pain in the you know what. I truly believe with this drastic price increase, you're going to see alot more lifted strollers.

We booked a rental through another agency in the orlando area, they will deliver to your resort and the cost is running us $78.00 for a week. I'll try to find the name of it. This is a double stroller front to back.

I really am just curious. Some of you are posting who have perfectly healthy 8 year olds, and you're mad about the hike in stroller prices. Do they really get THAT tired at 8 that they can't walk?! Don't you go back to the resort and rest at all?

I'm guessing the rise in the cost comes from those guests who are severely annoyed at the amount of strollers, especially double strollers, in the park that are used by perfectly healthy children who could walk.

I'm guessing you don't have kids? I don't have an 8 year old, but my DD is nearly 6, and I can honestly say that yes, she requires a stroller at WDW. No, let me rephrase that, the parents, us, need a stroller WDW. Until you have children, and realize just how miserable it can be when they are tired, you won't get it.

Sure, you can go back to the room if needed, but at times, most times, it's really nice\convenient to let them sleep a bit in the stroller, while mom and dad stroll around the parks.

As a parent, and someone who does rent the strollers, I'm disgusted with a price increase for this. Disney is basically going overboard with everything, and it seems to get worse every year.

I am really not trying to be rude, but you just basically said so yourself-IT IS CONVENIENT. You pay for convenience and if someone marks up that price, you are disgusted? Are they not providing a service for you, one that you admitted you like not need?

I think it is a lot of money to spend to get in the park, but hey, I like it so I will continue to pay until I reach my breaking point. Same with the stroller-you will decide when it is your breaking point. But, as a parent myself-yes, I have 4, and as you can see by my avatar, my baby is a BIG kid and he wasn't even 2 yet. But, even though it was a pain, I took my VERY expensive stroller on the plane to use at the park instead of paying for a single stroller there-and honestly, he pushed it more than he rode. And I had a family of 6 there.

So maybe we should all be a little more tolerant of other people's opinions-you said so yourself-it is convenient for you.

Absolutely ridicilous!!!! As a DVC member, I may rethink purchasing more points if Disney decides that they need the money that bad. I mean they give you "free" transportation from the airport then charge you $15 a day for a stroller. People need to boycott this action and complain.

I hate to see people being charged this much for something that is so necessary for young kids, even though this doesn't affect me as my kids will be 9 and 11 next time we go.

Children need exercise --that is true, but to make a kid walk 10 miles per day for 6 straight days? Yeah right!! I am one who did get my older kids a stroller. They would use it when they were tired and it was a blessing for me and DH as we could go all day and night with them without any whining!!! After 6 straight days in the park, I'm exhausted. This is OUR vacation and no one should tell ANYONE that they can't use a stroller. IMHO, Disney is making a wrong move here.

Yes, it is convenient. But not just for us, for our daughter as well. I'm sorry, but was I making a personal attack against someone? I simply asked if the person who made the original statement had children or not.

Also sorry that anyone who feels Disney isn't simply going overboard with pricing on a lot of things, I mean, $30 some dollars for a stroller rental, is wearing some blinders. Yes, they are providing a service, but so are loan sharks and other such "businesses" that I don't care to be ripped off by.

Sorry, if you can't stand it - it is just my opinion which is what the boards are all about. All I said is that may be one of the reasons the double strollers are going up so much in price while the singles aren't. Many 1 child families were taking doubles over a single because it was worth the small price increase. I have also seen many families with one young toddler and a much older kid get a double for the same reason. I think many people will re-evaluate whether their kids truly need a stroller or if they need a double and the ones that will need them everyday will bring their own which are far less bulkier then the ones WDW have. Then there will be some that will pay the price no matter what and WDW knows this. Overall it will save room around the park and WDW will probably still make the same amount of money they did before the price increase. It is a win win for them. Sad but true.

I know many need people truly need strollers and ECV's and it is a shame the prices are going up for those people, but ECV's get you to the front of the line and double strollers allow parents to use them as shopping carts so there will always be people who use them not what they are meant for. You can say it is someone's right because they paid the stroller fee but they are affecting everyone else in the park. It affects the flow of the park and also leaves them sold out constantly to people that truly need them. Could you imagine a single mom coming into Epcot with 18 month old twins only to find out there are no more strollers available and then see 1 child families with double strollers all over the park? What about an elderly person trying to make it around the park when 2 teens are on a ECV driving around laughing (seen it!) When there is theft in a store, who pays the price? The everyday consumers - not the business. There are cheaters and then there are people that have to pay for the consequences. If Disney can cut back on how many strollers are in the park and still make the same amount of money, why shouldn't they do it? It will also hopefully allow more people that truly need them a chance to get one past noon on a busy day.

DL doesn't have double strollers for "traffic" issues so why are you so astonished that WDW might think of increasing their prices to decrease the amount as well?

I am sorry if my post felt personal. I am just frustrated, not at you but at the circumstances in general. I do rent a double the 1 time a year I go. My just turned 8 yr. old still fits fine into the stroller and I particularly use it in Epcot because I feel like by the end of the day he is worn out and it makes our trip more enjoyable if he has a place to rest when he wants. My major gripe is this... why announce an increase 4 days before it's going to happen? Couldn't it be like 4 weeks? It's not like you can run out ahead and rent the stroller before your trip actually starts, like you can with tickets. Also, it is cheaper to rent 2 single strollers for multi day use then a double. Granted it is only by a dollar but a dollar over 10 days is 10 bucks or 4 mickey ice creams;) I don't know why they can't price the strollers to be higher during busier/holiday times like they do with the restaurants? If traffic jams is truly what they are concerned about! I can't imagine traffic jams with strollers during the less busy times. Again, I apologize if you felt like I was attacking you I didn't mean too, I just wish I didn't find out about this 2 weeks before my vacation!:goodvibes

That is what drives the economy-supply and demand. If it is not fair pricing to you, do not pay. And in defense of that person, you made a statement that they did not have kids, not a question. I think it is a large amount of money, but I also think that those strollers are HUGE and they really hurt when people are selfish and careless and run you, or your walking children, over. I am assuming that you are one of those people who do not run over people?

Being a marketing and accounting major, there are plenty of reasons that make perfectly good business sense which would cause them to increase the price. It doesn't make them a "business" or a rip off. It makes them smart because for every person on this site that says no way, there are 5 more that will take the place of that person in paying.

I do respect your opinion- I have children too. But, that is the choices we face as parents-how far we will go and what we will spend for that convenience. I would never spend it, simply because I already have a stroller and I like the money in my pocket, not rolling around WDW.

I know I don't post often. But I am reading here constantly.

Here is my issue. I believe that Disney has the right to charge whatever they please for the stroller. I also believe that a price increase of this size is ridiculous and may choose not to rent one.

But I have issues with several things.

1. Why does it matter if I have no children and decide to use it as a shopping cart? I spent the money.
2. Why should the price of the rental be a direct reflection of someone getting bumped by one of these. I don't understand the logic that you raise prices to reduce the number of strollers so stupid people don't hit you with them.
3. I am incredibly sympathetic to those with children with any level of disabilities, But you should not have to EXPLAIN why your child uses a stroller. The statement should read...I get a stroller for my 8, 9, 12 year old. End of story. You are the parent making the choice for your child. It makes me sad that you have to PROVE why you use a stroller. Not their life not their child. This just upsets me (coming again from a mother with 3 children all with different disabilities)

That being said....I have a 9 year old, 8 year old, and 1 and 1/2 year old. I do use the double stroller from Disney for my older boys to use to take a quick break. The break they get by 10 minutes or an hour in the stroller is faster and and believe it or not more relaxing for them then the hour trip it would take to get back to the hotel.

Just my 2 cents.

I haven't read the whole thread so don't know what most of this is about, but I do disagree with things you said. It may be supply and demand, but charging almost double the previous cost of a double stroller is not a good choice, IMO. I highly doubt that there will be 5 people rushing in to take the place of the 5 who will no longer rent. The strollers were there to begin with, if those "five" guests didn't rent before they certainly won't now. Add that to the ones who did rent that will stop renting and I think Disney has a problem.

I can understand my groceries going up, etc due to gas prices and this stinky economy, but the strollers Disney have aren't new, they haven't paid to lug them in a sea can across the ocean, etc. so they can have a plausible reason for passing that cost onto us. There really is no plausible reason.
Add 50 cents onto the popcorn and soft drinks. Add a dollar onto the CS entrees. And don't forget to raise the cost of a park ticket. That's where it will be LESS noticeable. Most of us out here aren't idiots. We understand supply and demand, high gas prices, etc. But I do believe that even the most intelligent of us are flabbergasted at the cost increase of esp. the doubles.

I have one 4yo and we have taken to renting the last two trips. I love to rent the strollers there as they are easier to push than any stroller I've ever owned, and it saves on lugging around. I can assure you, if I were renting a double, it would happen no more. I highly believe you'll be seeing many more doubles sitting around at the rental areas because parents have decided that "lugging" is not such a big deal anymore and much better than paying $200-$300 or more per trip to rent them. It really is sad when you can rent a car for less than that.

A $5 increase is expected, as ticket prices also rise and we see ourselves in the beginning of a lovely recession, but to throw out a price increase of that amount is preposterous.

My 4 yo will definitely be walking much more, and you can bet that we'll throw the old umbrella stroller in the back of the van for the trip down. I'm all for protesting the price increase, and Disney will get no more stroller money(single or not) out of me than is required.

Everything you say is correct, but at the same time, companies that deal with the public can't expect everyone to just follow merrily along with whatever they decide to do either. If people are upset, they should complain. They should let the company know how they feel. And the company should take into account how this may effect their guests. Especially since the age group this is effecting is their target demographic. Would Disney be happier if no one said a word and just stopped going to their parks? I doubt it.

I didn't take it personal. I was just trying to show what I meant. I honestly think Disney intentions are to clear the clutter of double strollers all over the park and still pocket the same amount of money they were already making daily. That's all. :)

I don't see how it is harsh but this is just my opinion. I think a big 8yr old in a double stroller being pushed around the park by his/her parents is ridiculous. If kids can't keep up, it means you need to slow down or take a break.

Parents with twins or two young ones sometimes find they are no more available, especially when you park hop in the afternoon or are there at peak times. I am sure I will get flamed by people claiming "you don't know what hidden disabilities these kids have"

It is sad when others feel the need to judge the rest of the world. It never even occurs to me to look and see who is occupying the strollers. Perhaps we should all be a little more concerned about our own families and let others decide what is right for theirs In fact, they gave out free double strollers for the MNSSHP and my hubby pushed my 4 year old and myself out in it while he was holding the baby in the bjorn. I guess some people may have had issues with that but it doesn't bother me at all;)

"I'm wondering if perhaps a new fleet of strollers in the works or something? "

Yes this is true. We were there 2 weeks ago and I was commenting at the stroller rental at Epcot about how much I love the disney strollers. The cast member told me "we are about to get new ones".

I would have never thought the price increase would be that dramatic though.

Well said. I have to think that this is what is driving Disney's price increase (as opposed to just the cost of the new fleet of strollers). And the traffic control issue is a big one - there are safety implications when folks are jammed up in a bottleneck of strollers. I think Disney is looking for some way to decrease their use without just decreasing the size of the "fleet" - although maybe it's a combination of factors and maybe the new fleet will be smaller in number.

OK, I surrender. When you start comparing the cost of a stroller rental to what drives the economy, you are, well, I won't even go there.

Have a nice day. :)
