Got back Sunday from first stay at YC--and we loved it. It was a girls' weekend, with me and 2 of my sisters. It was originally a last minute budget getaway with a stay at All Star Movies, but, well--things changed.
My first impression walking into the YC lobby was that the pictures you see do not do it justice. It is very rich and warm but not the least bit stuffy. And as far as being quieter than BC, every time we were in the lobby it was a beehive of activity. We did walk over to BC, and I really could not see or feel any appreciable difference in activity.
We had booked CL, standard view, and when we checked in we had been upgraded to a lagoon view, in room 5145. We had great view of lagoon, lighthouse and Boardwalk across the way, and a spectacular view of Illuminations at night.
We were only 2 rooms down from elevator and lounge, but did not hear any significant noise.
The CL CM's were truly wonderful. One of my sisters is diabetic and cannot have caffeine, so she asked the CMs if they happened to have any caffeine free diet drinks. When they said they did not, Patty was fine, and said she realized that was a special request and she would just drink water. Well, within 10 minutes, the CM came in with some caffeine free diet coke and Sprite Zero she had scrounged up from somewhere. Patty was thrilled and very touched.
CL was great. There was always plenty of the offerings out, and the CM kept the trays replenished. I think we enjoyed the breakfast the most, especially the oatmeal with all the toppings. The evening appetizers were very good as well. We found that with breakfast in the lounge, and appetizers and drinks in the afternoon we spent far less on food than we had planned. We were able to get soft drinks fairly late (around 10:30 or so) but as we were all soundly asleep by 11-11:30 I don't know the status of the lounge during the night.
Our room was immaculate and again pictures don't do the rooms justice. Beds were very comfortable and the pillows were great. I really loved the "gentle on" when you turned on the light in the vanity area of the bathroom.
Even with 3 girls and all the shoes needed for a weekend we had plenty of closet and drawer space.
We loved SAB--did not tackle the slide, but enjoyed playing in the Sinking Sands, floating down the lazy river and the hot tubs. SAB was not crowded, and our keys were not checked--but we brought them with us every time just in case. Pool was open to 10 p.m.
The only minor unpleasantness was at Beaches and Cream. We waited only a few minutes for a table, which was better than we expected, but once we were seated, no one came for our order. After 10 minutes we left. I think it may have been an off night and if we had more time we would have tried again.
We arrived Friday, plan was to go to Epcot on Saturday, leave Sunday. We were having such a great time that if we had not already bought our tickets to Epcot we would not have gone. As a matter of fact, we are going to go to YC again the same time next year, and just hang out at the resort and Boardwalk.
DH and I had already booked 3 nights at YC during the first week of December, and while I cannot convince him to do CL, I know we will have a great time.
Thanks again for all of the wonderful posters on this thread--all in all our visit went very smoothly because of all the great information here.
