Funny you should mention this. I booked our trip on Thursday and sometime over the weekend I got an e-mail that the schedule had changed. But it only changed by 10 minutes both flights so no big deal. We've flown AirTran before with no problems, but lately I've been hearing about a lot of bad experiences people have had. Hope that's not the norm.

Maybe you can answer a question about SW. Is it my understanding that they don't do assigned seats? Does that mean there's a possibility my family can't sit together? Someone told me that even though you can't pick your seat ahead of time, they won't separate families.

No, you do not get seat assignments. And they will split up families ... it depends on when you board. Each person gets a boarding number. You board according to the number. If you have a fairly early boarding number, your family will definitely get seats together. You can guarantee a fairly early boarding number by paying $10 per person per flight for "early bird". That automatically checks you in and assigns you a boarding number 24 hours in advance. The way you get your boarding number is by either purchasing "early bird" or checking in on line exactly 24 hours in advance of your flight. I've found that as long as you get A boarding or even the first 20 or so in B boarding you should have no problem finding seats together.

I've been on SW flights where a family had C boarding and was obviously going to be totally split up. The flight attendants asked over the intercom for volunteers to move so families could sit with their children. Once absolutely nobody volunteered to move which I can sort of understand. For a five hour flight I would not give up an aisle seat for a middle seat somewhere else ... not when a family can avoid this by simply logging on 24 hours in advance and checking in or paying the $10 per person for the early bird check-in. Other airlines charge for luggage. Southwest does not. To guarantee seats together, I think $10 per person is a small price to pay! JMO.

And in all the years of flying Southwest, I have never had a schedule change. I love that airline!

If you have child under 4-years old, you will family 'pre-board' after the A-class......I've been flying SW for years, and never had my family seperated when boarding with this group. Otherwise, you're better off doing the 24-hour check-in to print your boarding passes.

SW TRYS not to seperate families, but that is no guarantee.

Thank you. That does make sense. We did online check-in the last trip and it went very fast, but I have to say, we normally have a flight that gets us to WDW around 1 PM and we've never had a wait at check-in. I guess I did the online thing because it was "new", but I'll definitely take your advice this trip.

I'll ask one other question while I'm here. When is the appropriate time to make specific room requests? I guess I have to research this thread to learn more about the "ideal" room location, but at this point I'm most concerned with getting a room with two beds so DD doesn't have to sleep on a daybed.

You need to have your "requests" on your reservation the sooner the better. Once the reservation gets downloaded to the resort, the room assignor starts checking the requests.

Just wanted to add our experience with Southwest (most recently flew it home from Orlando in July!) As Teena mentioned, they do have this different boarding system. So far on Southwest, we haven't had any problems with this (we are a family of five.) So the "A" group goes first, and you can get an "A" boarding pass by checking in on-line 24 hours in advance. If you have an "A" boarding pass, you should be fine.

At Beach Club, we just called the front desk the day before departure and asked about check-in procedure for Southwest. The CM offered to just check us in right then! She secured "A" boarding passes for us, and we just picked them up from the front desk the next morning. It was great. But maybe Teena can confirm whether this is standard procedure when you call the front desk at BC the day before departure.

The other thing that makes us feel better about the boarding procedure is that you are guaranteed the opportunity to board between the A and B groups IF you have a child age 4 or under traveling with you. That's us (at least for now!) So we knew that even if we didn't get the A boarding passes, we could board right after the A group. I know that won't apply to everyone, but might help a few!

I'll admit we are still a little uneasy about the boarding process, but so far it's been fine. And if it bothered us enough, we could always pay the $50 per flight (that's $10 per person) for our family to get the auto check-in that Teena described.

I just submitted my last homework assignment for my MBA! :cool1: Only a test and PowerPoint presentation to go. As of October 5th I will be done, and as of October 14th I will be at BC to celebrate. Soooo exciting!!!!!!!!

What a super accomplishment. Congratulations. You deserve your vacation!

Someone recommended Vicks on my feet to stop coughing at night and it worked for the first 3 hours ... I actually got 3 hours straight sleep and it kept the kittys off the bed ... they hate the smell. After that even though I put more on, the cough kept me awake. My wheezing is better (probably because of the Z pack) but the worst thing is the headache. I'm going to try the cold compresses today to see if that helps. No matter what I take, it doesn't help and when I cough, I almost cry my head hurts so bad. I've never had a headache like this. My teeth are all hurting too so I assume my sinuses are messed up along with my brochitis. I would hope the Z pack would take care of the sinus problem too ... hopefully.

Did you have a good time in Maine? We're still really hot and humid here and my daughter says it's still in the 100's in Vegas.

Could the Z-pack be causing the headache??

Welcome Mum! Your travels make my 7hr trip seem short! Here is a copy and paste off the front page: (courtesy of Dee!)

The Beach Club is home to 2 counter service restaurants:
Beach Club Marketplace and Hurricane Hanna's
The Marketplace serves made to order items and also has sundries. Hurricane Hanna's serves alcoholic beverages as well as quick bites to eat. The kids' meals are served in a pail with a shovel that can be used at the beach or at SAB!

I would probably just go to the Marketplace (next to BC lobby). They have great salads, pizza, sandwiches etc..... And you can go out to Atrium and relax and eat. Not sure if Hannah's is open then but also a good option for sandwiches beside the pool!

Thank you, the marketplace sounds ideal

Could the Z-pack be causing the headache??

Any medication out there has the potential to cause headaches. However, headaches are very common in upper respiratory infections due to sinus pressure, congestion and constant coughing.

Just a quick question, which I'm sure has been answered many times over, but how long does it take to walk from BCV to Epcot's "back door"? Just saw the answer on the first page of the thread. I should look before I ask.

:sad2:Oh Teena...I hope that you start to feel better :sad2:

Try eucalyptus (leaves or oil) in boiling hot water-steep it like a tea, put it in a large bowl, and put a towel over the bowl and use it as a steam hut for your head. Don't laugh...it not only helps the headache, but the congestion/coughing as well.
And besides, I'll be bringing you chocolate and Tastycakes next weekend...that should fix you right up :)

You all are always spoiling me with those tastycakes. It sure is nice though. I love them and miss them so much!!!

I think you all know I'm off next Sunday and Monday ... I'm suppose to be out in Vegas with my daughter. I'm hoping I feel good enough to fly on Sunday. I'll be back at work on 10/10 and 10/11 and really looking forward to seeing everybody!

Forgive the Hillbilly, but what are "Tastycakes"?

Tastycakes are made in Philly (Philadelphia). We South Jersey and Philly area people grew up on them. They are unbelievable. So yummy. They are not easily found once you leave that area. The one thing I miss most since leaving that area is my favorite variety of Tastycakes, and our corn and tomatoes. Unless you are from that area, you have no idea what a real tomato tastes like. And the corn is so good. We might have great oranges and grapefruit here in Florida but Florida corn and tomatoes are really bad when compared to Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, and neighbors! Then don't get me started on Philly Cheesesteaks......

Thanks, Teena! I'm fairly new here so I didn't realize your expertise went beyond WDW. And to think, you're feeling very much under the weather, but still taking time to post. Hope you feel better soon.

Then don't get me started on Philly Cheesesteaks......

Sorry to tell you, Teena...but I just had one of those at the Bloomsburg Fair over the weekend :goodvibes
Unfortunately, my gall bladder is still reminding me about it today :sad2:

I know the answer to this question is already here someone, but hopefully someone will be kind enough to answer. We have a BC garden view room booked in February. I have no idea what makes for an ideal room location. Any suggestions for what I should ask for?

Can you tell me why you did NOT do online check in? I suppose I could have read through all the messages, which I will do at some point, but for now I thought I'd ask. That way I can see my new ticker too!

I didnt do online check in because as Teena has said many times I am sure on this site is if there is any chance for a upgrade your best beat is too not make requests and don't check in online!!!

and since we had no request and there really doesnt seem to be any advantage to me to check in online!!!!

my check in at BC was super quick, no line!!!

enjoy

Check out that ticker! Enjoy your vacation too!

It actually will begin a few hours earlier. My flight was bumped up a few minutes and now leaves before 7:00 a.m. So, I booked a hotel at the airport for the night before! :yay:

Teena - I hope you can go see Jeanne!
