2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

I love the Halloween party! It is so much fun seeing everyone running around with their costumes on. The Cm's are out in full force and they all seem to be having a great time too. Lots of fun! :thumbsup2

Just wondering why you've decided to stay offsite for the first night?

Rumor board is spewing rumors of Spectro leaving in the fall... just FYI in case you hadn't heard that one. That truely upsets me because I have never gotten to see it either and it was on my "must do" list.

We're going to stay offsite the first night because we probably won't get into Orlando until around 7PM or so. We drive straight through from Ohio, leaving around midnight. The Poly is so expensive, it's not worth it to pay to basically just sleep there that 1 night. (With the pkg. it worked out to just over $500 for that 1 night I think). So, we'll stay off-site cheap, get a good night's sleep and check into the Poly early ready to go. We did this last time and since we checked in early, but were willing to wait (at the MK!) until afternoon for our room - we got the exact request we wanted. Hoping for that magic again!

I have heard the rumors about Spectro. I would like to see it, but whatever evening parade there is will be fine with me. We're not big parade people. Last time only DD and I saw the afternoon MK one, that was it out of all of them.

Hi all!!

I am trying to figure out good CS/QS places to eat. I know everything may change, but in case it doesn't, what are your recommendations?

Also, a good place for TS when DH and I go out alone. We plan on spending a few hours at HS, but may hop over to AK or Epcot, depending on what rides we want to go on that the kids can't do.

Thanks!!!!!! Shannon

The food I think is my fav part! LOL I thought I had everything figured out for us, then they went and made changes to the Liberty Tree Tavern! BOO!!

Anyway, we are hoping for Chef Mickey, Coral Reef, Ohana Dinners then Hollywood and Vine, Crystal Palace and Ohana Breakfasts.

I heard LeCellier is good too, I think if hubby and I were going out alone that is what I would pick.

Have fun planning!
Dana

It looks like we will be there at the same time! I have also heard the info on the ressies, and I guess that is fine with me, as long as everyone going during that time has the same adr date. So we will make our CM one as soon as we can.

Where are you staying?
Dana

We're staying at ASMovies. Our boys love the Buzz Lightyear theme buildings. We stay there every trip, and they wish Buzz and Woody goodnight every single night of the trip as we push their strollers into the building. :)

For CS - I've always liked the chicken tenders at Cosmic Rays in MK. (fyi - on the night we stay for the Spectromagic Parade, we always go to Cosmic Rays to grab our food - we ask for "to go" boxes, and they give us styrofoam containers to put everything in so we can transport it to the parade route. Then we set up a blanket, and picnic in our parade spot while we wait for the parade to start. This way we don't have to worry about running late/getting a good spot for the parade. I know several people who get hot dogs at Casey's on Main Street and do this same thing).
For burgers, Pecos Bill in Frontierland/MK is great, too.

For TS - I like Le Celier at Epcot, and Mama Melrose at Hollywood Studios.

I just have to say that is sooooo cute. We stayed at the Pop Century with our DD2 and DS9mths back in 2006 and can't wait 'til April,2009.

:cool1:

It have been raining hard today, so I am trying to spend part of it planning my trip. I wish that park hours for March would hurry up and be released, it would feel more real to know the hours and to really start planning, right now I am just pretending to plan, mostly just reading up and dreaming about things.

Do you ever feel that you have to justify to others as to why you are taking another disney vacation, or a vacation at all? At work I feel like I am unable to even mention anything disney or my vacation, I get eye rolls, and lectures on how I should broaden my vacation destination and do I really think that I can afford it without knowing what is happening with the economy. (I really think that my coworkers need some pixie dust or something)

Really this is why I am taking my vacation next year, because I don't know what is going to happen, and what better place to be able to totally forget reality and be a kid again than disney.

Now back to patiently waiting under 8 months for my trip!!!!

When I was younger, the lady I worked with used to go to Gatlinburg TN every year, and twice if she could. She said they were going "home". I would say to her "why are you going there again? There are so many other places to go." But now I understand what she was talking about. I just figure the people that give us crap about going to Disney haven't found that special place of theirs yet.

I agree with both of you....I get the same response from both co-workers and family members, if I even mention disney they roll their eyes and act all annoyed....what I figure is that they are just jealous that they don't get to go....my husband says the same thing about there being other places to visit but you know what I don't want to actually go to some of the places he wants like the carribean, I would like to go to Europe but it is just to expensive....to me Disney is home away from home....I can't wait to go back...only 481 days to go.....

Actually, if you do it right, I don't think WDW is all that expensive. Of course, I don't have to pay for flights because we drive the 12 hours there and back. About "the economy" - it's called SAVING MONEY FOR SOMETHING YOU WANT. I find so many people who are living check to check, buying things they really can't afford, then wondering how I can go to WDW every year. Well - let's see - I don't eat out every night, don't buy $5 cups of coffee every morning, I put away any little amount I can every week, I don't run up expensive cell phone bills, I don't pay for the biggest cable package on tv, I don't have the most expensive name brand clothing, I don't buy or trade in a car every 2-3 years ...and on and on. :confused3

I'm sure when our boys are older we'll go to other places as well. But, I think the reason we love WDW so much is because we feel "innocent" there, KWIM? It's like we're actually living in a fairy tale for a brief period of time. And with the way the world is these days - WOW, what a wonderful break that fairy tale time is!

So --- let 'em say whatever they want --- they just don't get it. Feel sorry for them - then come and chat with the rest of us disney nuts! :thumbsup2

I agree. And add to that ... not taking out a mortgage to the last penny you can afford!!! I know so many people with huge houses that then have to scrimp and cut back on everything to afford it (esp. if property taxes go up). Friends of ours live in a $450,000 home and a couple Christmas's ago didn't buy their kids any gifts b/c things were too tight. Uh, hello? Sell the big screen? Or don't put in that $20,000 patio??? LOL! DH and I built our home 9 years ago, I was only 21 then. Even then we knew to build well under what we could afford even then. B/c I knew I wanted to stay home when we had kids (I work at home now), b/c we wanted to go on vacations, I wanted to drive a decent car (I lease, DH drives his trucks until they fall apart, LOL), we wanted to be able to eat out, etc, etc. We wanted to ENJOY life, not just have a big showpiece. Our house is just fine for the 4 of us, but it's not fancy.

I also agree about the innocence and fairy tale! When we went in 2007, it was just so relaxing, I really felt removed from the "real world". Having the DDP, we didn't pay for hardly anything, just a few souveniers. The Poly was just stunning and so worth it for us. This is another reason I wish the DDP would have the tip again, just that sense of having it all taken care of.

We enjoy our Myrtle Beach vacations (going in 5 1/2 weeks) and our trips to other places. But they are just not quite as magical as Disney!!!

AMEN!!!! :lmao:

I totally agree with what you are all saying. We get it all the time. . . You're going to WDW AGAIN????? How can you afford it??? They think my DH must make a million! (and the people who say this make more than us!)

It's simple. I'm a SAHM and my DH does not make tons of money! We just watch our spending. We drive older vehicles and take care of them. We only eat out on Saturday's. We don't even have cable tv! We don't buy expensive clothing or "toys". We save and watch for deals. If others would just try doing some of the things that we do they might be able to afford to go to WDW and then they wouldn't be the ones saying - WHAT??? You're going to WDW AGAIN???!!! :scared1: :lmao:

I've got to the point where I don't think we are even going to tell any of our family we are going in Jan 2009. We aren't telling the kids until Christmas, so I guess that's when everyone else will find out too. At least that will put off the eye rolls and gasps for a bit! :rotfl:

Amen to this too!!! :lmao:

I agree with you all. Some people go camping every year or to a waterpark hotel every summer. It's all about personal choice. We just happened to pick Disney!

I grew restless about when the 2009 packages were being released, so I used the WDW website contact info and e-mailed my questions (I asked about '09 rates, and the possibility of DDP changes). This was their response:

"Each year, our Product Development Department reviews all components
offered under each package name. This determines the packages and
components included for the following year. At this time, room rates
and packages for 2009 have not been announced. Please check back in
mid-August for updated information."

Hopefully they'll be ready by mid-August :yay: ...but no DDP info.

I totally agree! My MIL is very generous. Every Christmas and birthday, she gives me money. I put it right into The Disney Fund. Any extra money I get goes right into the fund. I figure that if I keep it in my wallet, I'll just spend it on something I don't need, so why not put it to good use :goodvibes ?

The other thing I do is give the girls disney dollars for their allowance. They can't spend the money, and this way they'll have spending money for Disney, that I don't have to worry about :thumbsup2 !

Yes, we do that too. Our kids earn and take their own spending money. From chores, holiday's, report cards, birthday's, etc. We buy them a shirt, but they buy everything else they want themselves. So no spending money needed there! And we charge our gas and groceries on our Disney Visa all year and earn Disney reward dollars on all those purchases. So that is our "spending" money when we get there!

I agree as well..we have cousins that only go to the same beach every year, but then ask why we go to Disney so much..HELLO???..I think some people..dare I say it..are anti-Disney :scared1: :scared1: .
I really don't care..my kids are getting older and I feel that my time to take them to Disney is dwindling down...so I'm going to take them as much as I can and not worry about everyone else :)

Anyway, we are probably down to less than 30 days or so until 2009 packages come out..last year I think they came out around 8/5 or so. I can't wait to put a ticker back into my siggie. I did a little online disney shopping last week and I'm anxiously awaiting my package..got some stuff for our trip next year, that is going right into the Disney box.

We have finally nailed down our dates to 4/30-5/8. DBF is going to be going back to school and this is the only time we will be able to go unless it is right in the middle of summer and I didn't want to go during Summer. I am so excited and can't wait to book. I have been doing some Disney shopping. I have picked up about 3 shirts from the Disney Store and at Walmart I found a cute Tink hat and about 5 shirts for myself. How early do people start TR around here? I am still in the planning process but it might be fun to get started on a PreTR
