2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

:cheer2:
I went to the post office yesterday and had a box from Disney Parks. I won a Year of a Million Dreams Mickey Ears.   We have been sending in post cards all year and this is the first thing we have won. My DH wasn't too thrilled but I wore those ears around all night. :rotfl:

:cheer2:

CONGRATULATIONS!

I didn't win anything from Disney, but I did get my order from Disney Shopping yesterday  . I was kinda having a crappy day and the sight of the UPS man instantly made it better. So now I have a bigger Disney box with lots of new things inside..there's no turning back now :lmao:

I grew restless about when the 2009 packages were being released, so I used the WDW website contact info and e-mailed my questions (I asked about '09 rates, and the possibility of DDP changes). This was their response:

"Each year, our Product Development Department reviews all components
offered under each package name. This determines the packages and
components included for the following year. At this time, room rates
and packages for 2009 have not been announced. Please check back in
mid-August for updated information."

Hopefully they'll be ready by mid-August :yay: ...but no DDP info.

I called yesterday, and was told the END of August.:confused3

I have my fingers crossed for mid-August. Dh says it's a good sign that they're running late this year. He thinks they may be tweaking their prices trying to entice us to come {not that I need enticing ;) }

Congrats Mrs Grumpy about getting Dream Ears how exciting, I to would have worn them all night long.

I have been thinking, my sons have birthday's at the end of january (the youngest) and end of febuary (the oldest), this trip is a combo christmas/birthday present. Every year for their birthdays they are allowed to pick any "sit down" restaurant for dinner. My oldest son has gotten smart and has figured out the most expensive/fanciest restaurants in town and is slowly going through each one, my youngest is still okay with any place that isn't fast food. We are not doing that this year instead we are just having a small party out my parents house (they will understand that having a party and going out to dinner so close to us leaving for Disney may leave us less money for Disney and they are aware that Disney is their christmas/birthday presents). Yes I know their birthdays are months away but it's all part of my milestones that bring us closer to disney.

This year one of their birthday presents is that they both get to choose a day at Disney and they are going to plan it, we are going to do whatever they want to do ( I am preparing myself for hours and hours of Stitch :scared1: :scared1: my youngest loved that ride, or whatever it is) and eat at a table service restaurant of their choice. They are also going to be allowed to pick a souvie that isn't a shirt and I will use my money to buy it for them on this day (as a birthday present) I was wondering would it be okay for me to order them a mini cake for the restaurant and allow them to wear a birthday button on that day, as part of their present or would that be to far from their real birthdays??

I don't see why not. I think that would be a cool thing to do. What could be more special than celebrating your children's birthday down there.... even if it is not on the exact date.

Hey I would like to join the 2009 party planning !! We haven't set and exact date (waiting for the rate) but we are looking at some time in may. I was leaning towards that time because it would be right around my anniversary at work so I would have time available, but we are going to a new PTO plan and looks like I am going to be getting an additional 2 weeks PTO. If that is not a BIG sign that says take a vacation I don't know what is. LOL !!! I have to back track on here and read from the begining, it may be a few days before I can post again as it goes back a long long way. LOL !!! :rotfl:

:welcome: That does sound like a sure sign of a vacation! LOL:lmao:

Have a GREAT night!

Ohh we won some too at the end of last year! :thumbsup2 Ours said Disneyland on them. lol Congrats~

We are seriously thinking of changing dates again. Well we are thinking we will not go in May for our anniversary. I would rather have one trip w/ the kiddos planned and not have to cancel that one if something changes down the road. So we are still on for December for sure :santa:

Yep, we'll be there in April 2009! I have our room reserved at SOG for Apr. 19 - 25. It will be me, my husband, our 4 year old son (he'll be 5 when we go), and my mother-in-law. We are sooooo excited to go!

We're going in April 2009 too!!!! We just went to the travel agent over the weekend to set everything up. We can't book anything until the rates come out sometime in Aug. We haven't been since 2004 (when my DH proposed) and I can't wait until 2009. It seems so far away.

I was just wondering if anyone else caught the announcement about the changes with the ADR system...the change itself isn't a big deal, but we are arriving on February 21, 2009 and should be able to make our 180 day ADR's on August 25, 2008...but according to this, I don't think we'll be able to make our ressies until October 24th!:scared1:  By my calculations, the only people affected are those arriving between January 25th and April 22nd, 2009. Maybe I'm the only one that stresses out about these minor setbacks in my obsessive planning! :lmao: If anyone has any additional info, or if I've misunderstood, please let me know! Happy planning 2009'ers!

Here is the announcement quote (located in the Dis Board Updates at the top
of the forums)
NEW DINING RESERVATION SYSTEM IN THE WORKS

Disney will begin implementing a new reservation system that combines dining, recreation and tour bookings.

The conversion will start on July 21, 2008 and is expected to be functioning on October 24. While this is taking place, the latest dining reservation date which can be booked in advance is January 25, 2009. Once the new system is operating, it will revert to the 180 day Advance Dining Reservation window.

The exceptions to the shortened ADR booking window are Cinderella's Royal Table, Chef Mickey's and Victoria & Albert's.

Yeah - I wish we could keep our 180 window, but it looks like we're stuck with 90 days. I've also read that Disney may not put out the calendars until 90 days out as well...that would really suck. At least if the calendar is out, I can plot out which park I'll do when, and what ADR's I want so I'm ready to call at my 90 day mark! :thumbsup2

I agree! :thumbsup2 It would be nice to atleast plan ahead so we know what to get for ADR on the first day of the 90 days. I guess all of us over planners, will just have to think up several different scenarios for park hrs, ;) then be ready to make the call right after seeing park hrs, wow, good thing we have a long time to plan! :rolleyes1 LOL:lmao:

 uh, yeah. My friend and I are going to WDW with our families at the end of FEB 2009. We are meeting on this FRI to see the movie "Mama Mia" together. Then, we're off to have margaritas in the afternoon, and plan our disney days while the kids are with their grandparents. :cool1: We'll probably change our plans a dozen times before we book everything - but it's still fun planning! We're not crazy - just addicted!

It will be very interesting to see how this system upgrade works out. Technically, I should be out of the "danger zone". Our trip is may 1-8, checking in at Disney on May 2nd. So, my ADR date is November 3rd - which as best as I can figure is one of the first days things should really be back to normal. Yes, the system is supposed to be back to normal on October 24th, but then you have 3 months of guests who can all of a sudden book on that date, right? Aren't the phone lines gonna be nuts?? And then add the +10 that's suddenly open too. Or am I getting this really wrong? Anyways...if things go exactly as planned, I *think* I'm safe. BUT....the big BUT ...is, if the ADR system does NOT get running again on October 24th, that could throw those of us with ressies after April 23rd off. Oh, it should be interesting!!

:cool1: I just found this thread. I'm glad to know I'm not the only person planning soooo far in advance! We plan to go in early Dec 2009...it'll be the first trip for DH and both my girls. I grew up not too far from Disney and went soooo often as a kid. However my last visit there was in 2000! WAY too long to go with out Mickey & Minnie!

So for those who were able to book rooms for 2009...how'd you do that? I called Disney and they told me they could nto book it till the rates came out in Aug. I'm so nervous I won't get my room at the Poly!

I was planning on a trip in Jan. 09. My sister and I said we would vacation together before our babies were 3. She mentioned Jan. but has since changed her mind to May 09. This is fine with me because I love the F & G Festival. So now I am waiting for package prices so we can decide where we want to stay. May seems far far away but I can fill the time with planning.:goodvibes

Hi!

I am so glad the Disboards are in existence! I am grateful for a place to visit and share ideas with other like minded people. No one here thinks it is crazy if you get excited about planning a vacation right down to the smallest detail years in advance!:lmao:

We went in May 2005 for the first time as a family. I am hoping to go in 2009. My DH said we could try to go in 2009 or 2010 earlier this year, but that was before we took an extended family vacation in June. I am still hoping and planning for 2009. I just have to work up the courage to tell my DH and convince him!
