09/28/2002 Cruise

I had said short for that last post. If that was short, I guess you would hate to see a long one from me.

AAA ta just called this afternoon and said my doc's are in.So excited! Now if I could just heal this broken foot!!!! 43 days to do it !!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :p :D :) ;) :cool: :jester:

Cathy - Good questions...

Papa - Thanks, I SO WANT THERE TO BE A SHUTTLE LAUNCH!!! Will need to investigate the Nasa Site momentarily. Of course, besides the Infamous DisCruisears, I have heard a rumor that Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, Dale & others MAY be on ther MAGIC!!
Now, wouldn't that be nice? :Pinkbounc :p :bounce:
Personally, Would love to have the Seven Dwarfs & Tigger too!!!

MikeJ - With all that time on your hands, ~~ Considered Golf? Takes a lot of time, and you appear to be crazy enough for it too!

Kimber - Laundry?! ~ Ask MikeJ ~ He seems to have time! ;)

Well. survived another work week ~ Dale's (Buddy) Big question for Saturday was Raft the Kenai or Golf the Creek Course? Golf wins because I have to trudge off to Washington State on Sunday... Ahhh BUT next weekend it looks like RAFTING for RAINBOWS on the Kenai ~ William!!!? Wanna go fishing???

And Still No takers on Running?! OH DEAH, OH MY, OH DEAH!!!

What are the booklets from Shirley and how do I get one? Is it like a catalog of what you can order?

Dennis-If you want to walk the decks, I'll do that. Otherwise, I'll volunteer my DH to run with you. He loves when I volunteer him for things:)

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Kimber

My motto is that I only run if I am being chased!

Glad to hear (well envious really) that other people are getting their documents. My last name begins with E and I haven't gotten mine yet.

I have to start going through the closet to see what fits me before I begin commando shopping. Up until now my shopping has been for the girls. I still have to see what will fit the little one.

Question for the men (with preamble): My husband doesn't "dress" for work. He wears jeans/shorts and t-shirts. Therefore he doesn't have many suits. He is probably bringing his tuxedo for the formal night, but I was wondering how the other men are handling the semi formal and the Lumiere's nights. I understand that that restaurant is more dressy than the other two. Are you bringing jackets for those nights? Will you rewear a jacket from another night? I'm not sure DH has enough jackets for a semi formal night and two Lumiere's nights.

Hi power alaska, thanks for the invitaiton. Personally, I like rafting on the rivers but not for fishing! We raft alot here in Idaho. Went a few weeks ago on the Main Payette. My mom and dad and sister went on the southfork, but I am not old enough. i can't wait to see the alaska pin.

Nancy--my older son really hated college food, so he cooked for himself after the first semester. Luckily, his school had a kitchen area on each dorm floor. It seemed to work for him (I think he ate a lot of pizza). His biggest problems were keeping his cooking stuff clean and "missing" food from the communal refrigerator/freezer. My favorite part of sending the guys off to college was that I didn't have to worry about what they were doing and what time they came home.

Beth--I wouldn't worry about your husband's clothes. Ed packs for himself except for dress-up stuff. I usually pack one suit for him with a white shirt and a few colored dress shirts with a couple ties. I can persuade him to wear the suit & tie for formal and semi-formal nights. (No tux in this family!) It's really the ties that he hates, so he wore just a dress shirt and the suit jacket to Palo's. Same for Lumiere's, and I think he took off the jacket after we were seated. I actually like getting dressed up, but since he doesn't--we try to compromise.

Had a long chat with Riker's vet today. When Ed returns from England, the three of us are going to discuss the pros and cons of eye surgery for the little guy. I have a human friend who has diabetes (like Riker) and his eye surgery never healed properly. This makes me really afraid to put Riker through all that trauma unless we are certain that he could see afterward.

Is anyone trying to lose a few pounds before we sail? I start out each morning with good intentions, and by mid-afternoon I'm looking for chocolate. I'd really like to lose a bit so I can enjoy gaining it back on the ship.

Hoping for a rainy day here--not much hope, though.

Karen

Here we come !!! really excited ! First cruise for Kim & ME (Bette)(daughter & mom)...Can't wait to meet everyone ....
Bette

Welcome, Bette (and Kim, too)

If you have a few hours (not kidding, maybe longer) you might want to read through this thread. We have a great bunch of folks of all ages. Mary (RellingTwin) is our official list keeper, but so far I think our most senior cruiser is Lillian at 73, and our most junior are Sammi and Amy, both 4. We're from all over the map from Canada to Florida and from Alaska to Texas.

Looking forward to getting to know you on the boards and especially to meeting you in person.

Karen

Hey Beth. To answer your question I will be wearing the same jacket for Lum, semiformal and formal. Don't own a tux and I was a blue collar worker so ties were verboten. Just different shirts:p Welcome Kim and Bette to the nicest folks you can meet. Just my 02 cents. Mike

Kimber - Now that's the spirit... "Cruise rules" indicate you are entitiled to one extra dessert of your choice for thinking about exercising during a cruise!!! Y'all think this guy runs for fun?! :p

Beth - Probably one suit with multiple Disney Ties ~ Don't own a TUX and rental seems an unnecessary expense for single night.

Bette - Welcome aboard ~ Must read notes for TEST that Rellingtwin (Mary) will be giving. Understand it is "open book", so just print out the entire thread. Make me a copy too ok? ;)

William ~ Someday. Ok - Rafting Kenai is much more sedate than rafting in Idaho. Anyhow, Have your Alaska Pin put aside for you.

Rikersmom (Nancy) ~ Have been exercising regularly but to no avail - Gained 5 lbs!! (Muscle Mass - Yeah Right!) Mostly it is a stress relief activity for me. That and EATING!!!! Did you know that "dieting" for events & holidays is psychologically unhealthy? Must recommend that you eat MORE choclate to offset the potentially damaging affects you may have done to yourself!!! Havn't you read the postings discussing choclate as a vegetable?
PLEASE - eat your vegetables!

Anyone, where can I "pick-up" that countdown clock application? Hate to use this language on a Golf-Day but need it for work...
That hurt!!! Mea Culpa Mea Culpa ~ Sorry won't do it again!!!

Someone (eshannon?) was talking of State Fairs - Alaska State Fair begins next week too... Quaint but lotsa fun! If anyone wants to enter a cabbage - minimum entry this year will be 50#'s
~~~~~ LOTSA SLAW!!! ~~~~~
Dennis go to the technical board on the scroll down list at the bottom of the page and it has the instructions there. Mike
John is bringing one sports jacket; three ties and three or four dress shirts. I do not have any real dressy clothes and probably will not buy any since I will have no other ocassion to wear them; next year we go to China, so probably will not cruise for another 2 years.
We are both on diets; John will probably be more successful than mine. Sure would like to weigh the same as I did 10 years ago, but that would take longer than 6 weeks to lose that amount.
I have heard Lumineres was supposed to be more dressy than casual, but in fact the people who dine there dress casually most of the time. Last year we went to Topsiders when we were supposed to go there since John insisted on not bringing a sports jacket. This year he is bringing one since I was upset that we ate at Topsiders 5 nights as a result. He was afraid he would be amongst the only a few without a sports jacket on there. There is nothing wrong with Topsiders, but really 5 nights is a lot of casual dining.
goofynut--thanks for the phone call!
Hi Bette and Kim! Welcome to the DIS and to the group.
Karen -- you're not the only one trying to lose a few pounds. I have been dieting for a few months now. Lost 20 pounds so far, but I'm sure a few will climb back on while on the cruise. Chocolate calls my name too.
Thank you Karen, Dennis Mike and Donna for asking my mens dress up question. It's amazing the questions you can come up with when you should be sleeping. :D
Karen - I will leave all of his packing to Eric! LOL I will just remind him to pack a few dress shirts for the different nights. And depending on our dining rotation we may be in Lumiere's on the dressy nights anyway. I remember a Norwegian Cruise we took a few years ago. We were all dressed up for the formal night (as were most of the people we saw) but there was one guy in the dining room in denim cut offs and a tank top.
I tend to think that even if the men are just wearing a nice shirt and no jacket they will look fine in Lumiere's. I'll bet you see all types of things on men.
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Bette and Kim. Are you the two that Mary (RellingTwin) recruited from another board? Plus welcome to tcjp4me who wrote on here last night.
Karen-- I know that it will be difficult for you to make a decision about Riker and having surgery. You want to do what is best for him, but it is not always easy making that choice. Please keep us posted on his condition.
As for DS#2, he pretty much eats anything so I don't think the college food will bother him. Acutally, the food at his school seemed better than DS#1 college food. DS#1 is very picky about what he eats (currently will not eat beef or pork) so he mostly ate pasta, pizza, belgium waffles with ice cream all last year. It is amazing he didn't gain that freshman 10 lbs, instead he grew an inch. Both of my sons are tall 6'2" and 6"3", but no meat on their bones so they could stand to gain some weight. Oh remember those days where you could eat anything and stay thin.
Dennis-- I'm Nancy (padisneyfan). I know it is hard to keep everyone straight. I keep the list in front of me to keep track of who is who.
I am a lifetime member of weightwatchers who had fallen off the wagon(we are talking way off) for a number of years.
Last September I decided I was getting back on track (my mid life crisis) and went back to weightwatchers. From Sept to May I lost 70 pounds. I am now on maintaince, so as part of that program I took up exercise mainly power walking and some aerobics. I did survive my 4 day cruise and 7 day WDW in June and didn't gain any. I pretty much ate what I wanted including my daily chocolate chip cookies and the chocolate souffle (got to have those chocolate veggies) and walked everyday on deck 4 2-3 miles depending on what I ate the day before. The 7 day cruise will be more of a challenge with the sea days. But I will survive and if I gain a few pounds oh well will get back on track when I get home.
My DH, Norm, will be taking a suit and two dress shirts and two ties for formal and semiformal night he will wear those. For Palo and Lumineres he will wear the jacket with dockers and golf shirt.
We have having a large old apple tree being cut down today and the noise is so loud from the wood chipper, I got to leave the computer and try to find a quieter place in the house.
Have a good day everyone.
Nancy
Hello from sunny hot Sahara-vania. Welcome to all the newbies and hope everyone is feeling well. Thank God for another week in the books and closer to the cruise. About the exercise. we will be walking almost every day and have been so we can enjoy the cruise. I love to walk especially on days we are at sea, but real early I get up at 5:00. Now for the clothing issue I am no dress horse and when you see this body you will see why. I am opting for the rental tux white and black jacket with vest/ tie really for the wife. Don't have a daughter to marry off and I very rarely get dressed up and am doing this for her and some good pic's also to show the guys at work that I clean up pretty good. talk to you later am going to my best friends 50th birthday party tonight. Talk to you all later. George:earsgirl: :earsboy: :wave: :wave: :wave:
Hello all,
Welcome - Kim and Bette.
Rikersmom - I am sorry about your dog. My thoughts are with you on your decision - what a tough one. If you do have the surgery, will it be done by University of Penn Vet School?
Here I am sitting here - watching the boat get ready to go by. < Sad - I tend to be here everyweek at the same time>
Take Care
Art is going to be :bounce: for joy when he reads about all you suit guys ... Mike, Dennis, Norm, Ed, etc etc. He tried his on this morning and OMG it still fits. It's ready to go along with his wide array of Mickey Ties. He has been a blue collar guy too ... I think the last time he had on a tux was our wedding almost 30 years ago.
Welcome to the new additons to our thread ... TCJP4Me check your OM and BETTEMOM check your e-mail.
Just when I think I'm done with the name tags ... we grow again!
Kidding really, I am so thrilled to know there are more DIS Cruisears to meet and have fun with.:Pinkbounc
Spoke with Donna on the phone yesterday ... can't wait to put a face with the name.
Mike ... thanks for the link to the tanker thingy. How's your Dad's new hip? How's your leg?
I did up 15 Hidden Mickey booklets and I'm "reserving" them as you post a request. They will be there to pick-up with the name-tags when we meet at the Raddison or Sail-Away.
Did a little shopping today ... got a few pins for Disney Trading and some other ods and ends.
Bummer... no doc's get delivered on Saturdays. I want that package from Disney Cruise so bad I can see them!
Back to household chores ... Darm it.
:bounce: :bounce: Don't worry, I'll be in my chair come Eagle Football tonight --- got the snacks and beverages all ready :bounce:
Whoopee! Only six more saturdays. My uncle from England will be with me for two of the weeks. My brother will be with me for one of the weeks so the time will fly.
If you didn't already see this , go to www.mikesamazingcakes.com
He makes the most awesome cakes. There is one of walt and mickey and one of the disney magic.
I have been trying to think of something special for William since he won the cruise. I am trying to order a cake. They will ship it to the port. Trying to decide between a scaled down version of the disney magic or a pair of the famous ears. Any other ideas?
Also, am trying to keep it a surpriOff to our block party. Night all. Elaine
