09/28/2002 Cruise

Hello all,

Well I just couldn't stand it.........I started packing tonight:D :D

Not clothes, but I went to Wallyworld today and bought all of our toiletries/over the door hangers/batteries etc........ started figuring out which suitcase everything should go in. Not too bad, last cruise (Feb 2001) I started packing the week between Christmas and New Years!!!!!

Goofynut - My kids would love to do the Hidden Mickey Hunt.

To all who might want to purchase travel insurance and are traveling on Points - Cut off date for Penalty period starts August 20th!!! Better book before then for 100% refund. Let's just hope no one has to use it;)

Lauren

Mike - Thanks
Nancy - Sorry - I Try!!! Understand the weight-exercise thing. Have lost at least 2-3 of me over the years!!! Finally just gave it up and deal with it on a day top day basis ~ Generally satisfied.
I only weigh 15#'s more than college, just different distribution!!!

George - I'll meet you for coffee in the mornings! Have gotten up so early for so long, I think "sleeping in" is 0630!! Of course, I am really good at those deck chair naps too!!!

Managed a "fair" golf game today ~ Bogey is defined as "fair"!!!

Anyhow, my Honey is on the way to Germany and I head out for Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia tomorrow for about a week ...

Know you will miss the Alaska fishing-golfing reports terribly but hang in ~ In the words of McArthur & Arnold I WILL RETURN ~
Frightening I know but when you treat a stray puppy nice ....

HH&GB to all

George---Look for my DH Norm when you are taking your early am walks, he walks everyday around 5:15-5:30am before going to work.

Dennis-- Then he can join you for coffee.

It took all day for the men to cut down the apple tree, it was really huge. They started at 9 and finished around 5pm. Norm keeping taking out bottled water to them since it was so hot. Norm is going to built a squirrel/bird feeder on top of the stump which he had them leave about 2' high. The apple tree was right by the woods so it will be the perfect spot for a feeder. I'm sure the deer will miss the apples, but I won't miss the mess from that tree.

My passport came today. That took less than 2 weeks. DH is still waiting for his.

Nancy

Welcome Bette and Kim! So great to have another "mother and daughter" combo - even if you are a bit younger than me (47) and my Mom (73).
It's just so nice to be part of this group - so welcome!

Rikersmom - I really feel for you as a dog lover also and wish we could smuggle him on board so we could all pamper him too. Having had dogs with medical problems over the years (including a beautiful Great Pyrennes with parvo) - I am considering animal health insurance. I treat my animals (Goldie/collie/chow mix dog - Kira and gray/white short haired cat - Mr. Bumpy) as the family members they are.

Shirley - I told the group but if you are lurking out there. You are marvelous! I devoured the information and now have a very clear idea of what's available at Key West and what I'd like to do with Mom and Michael there. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Power_Alaska - only 15 more than you did in college?! Ohhh my~! I bow to your willpower and stamina!

On a different note:
I am currently writing a new play for our community theater dealing with class reunions. If anyone would like to share a story with me that they wouldn't mind my using - send me a PM. I will change the names to protect the "innocent"!

Thanks!

Rae

OMG ... Only 6 more saturdays till we cruise! At least 2 of them will be going to PSU games ... that shoots a whole day with the long drive there and back. Getting nervous/anxious!

We have had such a HOT summer that it has drained my energy and I'm actually hoping or a rainy cool weekend to get somewhere near caught up.

Norm ... About the squirel feeder ... Do you do woodworking projects? Art does and bult us the neatest squirel feeder. It has a glass jar that you put the food in and the little guys have to climb in there ... so much fun to watch. I (of course) made had to make the entrance shaped like a Mickey head! If you want the pattern let us know. Sigh...I feed the deer in our backyard too ... drives art crazy...But I love my animals! Funny thing is that they know my voice and can be found running toward me .... Right now I have a beautiful family (eight point buck, spike son, mommy with 2 fawns).

Well gotta go and hang some clothes out to dry ... then of course sweat some more!

Cathy just a quick question. Did you use the large logo for the front or the back of your shirts? Tennessee(UT) kicks off it's season on August 31st here in Nashville against the University of Wyoming.

Kathy has a doctor's appointment in the am and that will keep us busy for a good portion of the day.

Going to watch the Magic dock at Key West today:bounce: Kathy is wanting to get a margurita at jimmy buffet's place there;)

Guess that it is time to get the big rolling suitcase out of the storage barn and dust it off. Mike

This has been a very special year for deer and twins. We thought "our" doe had just one but the other day Michael saw the second one. Hope my pictures turn out! Our neighbor said his teenaged son saw the buck already.

My Dad used to build the seated squirrel feeders. We get the large gray ones and the little red ones. It's so much fun to see them chase eachother around during the year.

Do you have any plans for a bat house? With the increase of the West Nile Virus, I want as many of those little "night birds" around as possible. The Amish in Southern Indiana have lost two dozen plus horses already and they say it's not going to improve.

Also, does anyone in our group have any experience as either a travel agent OR advise about becoming one? There are so many schools advertising "reduced air and travel" that my birthday buddy (Pricilia519) and I are thinking of doing this for some fun and additional income. She and I already make all our own travel plans - her's include the Orient though! Any advise, suggestions or comments would be appreciated~

Can you believe we have so little time to "shape up, lose weight and get ready"?
Wow! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

YO! All this talk of packing... I haved to be at the airport in an hour and I am just finishing up... Life w/o Chrystina is a bummer!!!

Nancy - Works for me, we will have the DisCruisers "early-risers" club ~ Coffee drinkers can supervise the exercisers :p

Rae - There has been MUCH fluctuation over the years!!! Made it up to over 50+ at one time - It was a VERY HARD effort back to range of College weight. Maintenance is significant effort for me.
LOVE my "comfort foods". None of which are listed on the acceptable list at "weight watchers" ~ Oh well ~

Rae - Along with Bat Houses, you may want to try and encourage DragonFlies - Heard that they eat 4-500 mosquitoes/day. Not sure how to "encourage" propagation. BUT I do know that we have loads of them around the house in Alabama and not very many mosquitoes....

Need to pack - Need to go!!! See ya in about a week ........

HH&GB to all

Power_Alaska - dragonflies?! We have a bunch of them here and you know what, you are right - we really don't have a lot of mosquitos - maybe they and the bats are helping us out!

Ohhhh, I love the "early risers club" idea! Right now I am hitting the floor at 4:30AM (no reason - just doing it naturally). Definitely not going to be one of the exercisers - we just moved some furniture around the house and whew, that was enough for a while!

I am really proud to hear about your weight management/maintenance. I did okay til I hit 30 then have been going downhill, uphill, downhill - I stress eat and love cheese! Especially Vermont Cabot Cheddars!

Thanks to Papa - we got to see the Disney boat dock today at Mallory Square. It was so cool. Now I understand why so many watch the cams!

I have been desperately searching and asking for Indiana State Quarters to share with the group but the banks do NOT get them any sooner since they do not preorder them. I even have Mom asking around but so far we haven't even seen one!! I will keep trying and hopefully will be able to share them with you.

Does anyone want me to get anything special for them from Indiana? Let me know!

Okee dokee!

Rae

Monday must be the kathy go to doctor day! ... I have an appointment later in the day to get my paw looked at. I just can't stand this cyst or whatever is on my right hand. It's affecting my fingers and thumb and driving me crazy (I know that's not a far drive!).

Rae I think I saw a bat House pattern in one of Art's books ... I'll try and see if I can find it and bring it for you. Terrible to say, but never used to be afraid of the skitters but that West Nile is a little too scarey for me. I don't even let AshLee out for long after dark
anymore ... they love to bite her belly ... don't want my baby getting sick.

Riker .... Ashlee says "woofer woofe wuf woofity" (translation hope you feel better and remember try and keep your tail end away from your petiatrician).

? If we get pins at the Disney Store are they OK for trading? Do they have to be from one of the parks or ship?

Mike ... Some have put a small one on the front and the big one on the back. I made some with the Big one on the Front and a set with the small one on front and big one on back. anyway we do them really dosen't matter I guess ... still cheaper than sending away for them and we get the Mickey to boot!

Check on everyone later .....

Hi all!

I would love to get one of those hidden Mickey lists. Bet it would be a fun thing to do with the kids.

Is it hard to make more of those things for the shirts? If I want to put them on the front and back and then make a pillow too, I am going to have to make more of them.

Elaine -- is that your brother who makes those cakes? They are amazing! And did you say your son won the cruise? How cool! What contest was that?

Goofynut - if you can find the bat house - great! If not then thanks for your time.

We heard the announcement during our Eastern Feb 23 cruise that there someone had just won a free Disney cruise - is that one of our Cruisears?!~ WOW! Wouldn't that be wonderful!

If anyone wants me to get them a Mickey Indiana State pin - let me know and I will try to get up to Fort Wayne's Disney store. No promises but I will give it a good try! I have a few pins but not really a collector - I collect Tom Clark gnomes.

Just watched the original Godzilla (from 1954) from a tape I bought off Ebay. It was in Japanese and had no Raymond Burr narration. The coolest thing! Any Godzilla fans? I also got a great copy of the old marrionette kids show - Fireball XL5 from Ebay.

Okay, I am sounding my age today! Better get a'gittin'!

Rae

I want to watch the disney magic also. Where is the link for the cam in Key West. What do you all do? Set a timer so you remember??LOL Cuz that is what it would take for me. I get too busy going from laundry room to kitchen, make a bed in between etc. You get the idea?? Anyway, I would love to see it so let me know where to find the link. Thanks

Beth, Yes that was DS William (age 10 at the time) he played "Who wants to be a Mouseketeer" and when his seat got chosen he flipped. He knows lots of disney trivia and it was just his night. The last question was how to spell supercalifragl......
Anyway, he jumped because he has known than since third grade. I got some great pictures of him. It was a wonderful trip to begin with but that was the icing on the cake.. speaking of cakes, no that is not my brother. Soemone else posted a link and I got in touch with them. I love the disney magic cake. It is so real looking. that is also the reason we are cruising with just him. It is kind of special to be able to get away with just the one child when we have four. ;)

Just got back from our new walmart. You know when they greet you by name, you are patronizing a store WAY too much. LOL
Well, gotta go make dinner. We are having a real healthy meal today. Real "sit down together and eat" meal!!
Roast Beef, yorkshire pudding, roast parsinips and potatoes, brocolli and carrots. Yummy. Can't seem to get the energy to cook too mluch when it is so hot our. Actually it has cooled down quite a bit. Only 88 today.

Have a Magical Week. Elaine

Hi Cathy, Hope your little paw gets better. I have a friend who had one of those cysts but I don't remember what they did for it.

I hope Riker gets better. I have three pekingese dogs left of 6 from the beginning of the year. They are old dogs and I love them dearly but ... The male is now going blind and the one is deaf and on arithritic meds and the sister to the blind one is just plain crazy. ;) She is so cute. My DD had her at her home for the longest time. She brought her home after she moved to her apartment and the dogs couldn't climb the stairs anymore. Biscuit, Baby and Fussbudget all say "Woof" to Riker and Ashley. I also have my mother's dog a taco dog, her name is Duchess. My son and his wife have a pom. "Bear" (The yappingest dog in Tenn.)

Waiting for Katie to get here. She is spending the night so her mom can get to school and back to Knoxville in the morning to exchange a roll of canvas she bought last week and got the wrong kind. She sold another pin and ink drawing.:bounce: I keep waiting for the art world to discover her.:p

Tomorrow I will be asleep for part of the day while the doctor does his thing and Mike will be keeping Katie busy. Or is that the other way around? (Katie keeping Mike busy?) I'm not looking forward to it. I am so hungry I could eat the south end of a north bound mule. Only jello today. Yuck!

A friend at work was trying to attract bats but hasn't had too much success at it. A neighbor of her's has a bat house full of the little critters. Must be a close knit family that doesn't want to move huh?

Oh these people who get to travel to everywhere. I am very envious. Take care. Kathy

Ed & I actually got to see William win the cruise playing "Mouseketeer" in February. He was awesome!

Thanks for the concern you all have shown for my Riker. He is such a great little dog. I'm puppy-sitting for a friend's Schnauzer today, and she is doing a great job of giving Riker someone to follow around. I just wish it was a bit cooler so that they could spend more time outside. We'll be talking to the vet when Ed returns from England. He mentioned a vet opthamalogist in Trooper, PA who is reportedly very good.

Not sure if it was Cathy or Art--but Disney Store pins can be traded like any other. The only drawback is that they don't cost as much as the pins at WDW, so sometimes regular traders don't want them. Cast members are required to trade, though. So, lots of people buy the less expensive Disney Store pins and then trade for WDW pins from CM's.

Everybody keep cool,

Karen

Just in case any of you are interested. Tomorrow night at 9 eastern on the travel channel there is a program callled Inside Disney. I can't wait to see it. :bounce:

Elaine-- Those Mike's cakes are the most awsome cakes I have ever seen. Who would want to cut into them and eat them. I enjoyed reading about each cake and saw that the one CEO wouldn't cut into the cake that looked like him. Wonder what the bride and groom save on some of those unusual cakes for their 1 year anniversary?

Cathy-- The squirrel feeder does sound great and Norm would be interested in the pattern. He used to do a lot of woodworking and maybe since the boys will be gone he can get back into it.

Had time today to work on my scrapbooks, finished my June cruise and WDW visit. That pretty well filled up that book. So I guess I will just by a new one to put all those wonderul pictures I'll be taking on our western cruise.

Hope everything turns out ok with everyone doctors visits.

Nancy

Hi Everyone! Welcome to our new CruisEars! Once again, I have been out of touch, and needed an hour to get caught up with all these pages. Can't believe we are just 6 weeks away!
As far as dress goes DH will wear a rented tux on formal night, and a suit on semi-formal night. I have two fancy dresses that I borrowed from a friend. She has a formal dinner she has to go to every year, and buys a new dress everytime. I just go shopping in her closet. LOL
Had a Great time with my family in Charleston. Just wish we could have stayed a little longer. Not only did I get to see my brother and sisters, but my kids get to see their cousins. Mary (Rellingtwin) was a great hostess. She made sure everyone had a wonderful time. I am truely blessed to have such a close, and loving family. We were 22 at the restaurant last night. I wanted to tell the waiter that there were 10 family members that were not able to be there. But I didn't want him to faint.
OK, now that my suitcases are empty I guess I can start packing for the cruise.
Still waiting for my Docs! Stay safe and healthy. Later, Ave'

Nancy, I too worked on my disney scrapbook today. I am saving my new creative memories magazine and memory makers for the cruise. Have put some packets together with paper, embellishments etc and the pics in page protectores. I am t hinking I will have lots of inspiration on the ship. Hope I can find a quiet corner to scrap while Bill and Willliam do their thing. :p

I must be looking at the wrong thing on the cam for Key West. All I see in a black and white still picture. Do I need to do something to make it "come alive".

am thinking DH will wear a jacket and slacks and I would love to find some disney ties. Anyone know where? We won't have a tux along. I have a couple nice dresses. DS will probable just wear a nice shirt and khakis.

Am going to put the suitcases in my DD's room. She just moved out to go to college and the room is all nice and clean!!! Now I can start to pack also. Have a quick trip to Seattle before the cruise.

DH's mother called today to tell us she will be in Hawaii for Christmas and wants us to go also. Her sister lives there. Told husband he could go and I will go on another cruise with the kids.

Elaine
